They only sold about 1/3 of the Volts they predicted they would sell so what, they think a higher priced version with a Cadillac name plate will do better ?

Posted

They actually shut down Volt production for a time, because there were so many unsold ones sitting around. Yeah, you have to wonder... if the $40,000 Chevy version isn't selling, why would a much higher-priced "Cadillac" version sell any better?

And from what I've heard, a lot of those sales were to various government agencies, not "real" private buyers.

It might, Lexus has made quite a few hybrids based off the Prius tech, and I don't think it's near as good as what GM puts in the Volt. GM really needs to start making this stuff available in all of it's front drive models if they want it to go somewhere. Sadly, after seeing an article in which their Ethanol projects guy seemed disinterested at best, I fear the Volt may get a similar treatment Ethanol seems to be getting over there.

Hope the battery isn't made by the newest failed green company.

Just heard today that the government sent a bunch of dollars to Austria, or somewhere like that, for charging stations for the Volts our embassy will be buying. Good grief. The Ford C-max is already better than the Volt and the Prius, and it hasnt been released yet.

..........but the idea of putting a Cadillac badge on a Chevy worked sooooooooo well for the Cimmeron..........

Exactly was I was thinking! Didn't GM learn anything from that? :o

I thought that they killed "badge engineering" at GM as part of their new, forward-thinking way of doing business. Guess not...

The ELR isn't going to be badge engineered from the Volt. It will have the same dirty bits underneath, but it's own unique 2dr fastback body and unique interior. More a case of platform sharing, like how the '14 Impala uses the same Epsion II platform as the Caddy XTS and Buick LaCrosse...

Probably better to stick w/ articles from automotive websites like Autoblog, Jalopnik, Autoweek, etc. I wouldn't believe much from articles from Faux News..

Still... as the politicos like to say, the "optics" aren't good. Guarantee you that the "it's nothing but a gussied-up Volt" statement will be made regularly.

Maybe a unique body and interior will be enough to make it a legitimate Cadillac in consumer's eys (along with, of course, a "Cadillac" price!). Time will tell. But IMO, I don't see a dramatic upswing for Cadillac from the "less than spectacular" public embrace the Volt has gotten so far. If it wasn't for numbers inflated by government purchases, the Volt would be a flat-out sales disaster. As it is, it's barely limping along, sales-wise.

Perhaps more upscale California and Connecticut buyers, etc., will be more green-friendly. Just a thought.

GM is looking to cash in on the me-too crowd. People with the means will always want to embrace the newest, trendiest that can be screwed together. But you also have to realize GM has invested HUGE money into this project. They'll revise it until it clicks. Or snaps, depending on the outcome.

It's limping along for two reasons IMO............

#1 It's too dang expensive.

#2 It's Ugly!

Fix both of those problems and we might have a winner! Here in Central PA, I've seen VERY FEW on the roads.

Best optioned Cavalier I ever drove! That V6 would really get the little car down the road! B)

Had 247,000 on the meter when I gave it to my son.

Had 298,000 when he gave it to his older brother.

Had 305,000 when the water pump came apart on him at 2am and he drove it 30 miles on to home and killed it!

I still have the Gold Keys to it! :)

But it was a wrong move for Cadillac.

Well, sooner or later they will sell them. After all, oil is not going to last forever and it is getting more and more difficult to find. I like the Caddy better, but would never buy it.

I'll look at it...but since it's FWD I wouldn't consider buying one. I like my STS, probably will be looking at a CTS (maybe the coupe) for my next Caddy.

Well, "ugly" can be argued, but too expensive? I'd say so. Priced out of the range of the typical car buyer.

You can add reason #3: a laughable 30-40 mile range on electricity. Some "hybrid"...

Here in the Chicago area--population 9 million or so--I have NEVER seen one on the road.

Is that a sign of good old-fashioned midwest common sense? :D

l think they would make more money bringing Pontiac back then a caddy volt...

I wonder if the reason for the caddy, isn't all the Chevy parts on the shelves not selling. Maybe they think a caddy would apeal to a few more buyers ?
