I attended the SABA show in Milwaukie (Portland), OR yesterday. As is my custom, I bought 80 raffle tickets for 50 cents each. I came out WAY ahead for the cash invested. Most I want to build. Some will be donors and some may be traded at some point.

Revell custom parts for vans? What Revell van doesn't have wheel flares already molded on? I had to remove the ones molded on mine, and it was the stockest version I saw.

It was intended for use with any van kits, not just the Revell kits which were already customs.

I had the set they made for pickups back then and it featured a mid '70s Dodge pickup in the instruction illustrations, which Revell never made, only MPC.

Rough, but just what I wanted, and cheap. AMT "Styline" version of the 1963 Thunderbird hardtop, in a decent box with both stock bumpers and most of the Styline stuff, plus a few other cool little bitz.

Wrong chassis entirely, but the fairly recent '62 convertible repop chassis fits fine, naturally.

Missing lots of other stuff, but it's just like dragging a decent shell out of a junkyard to build something cool.  :D

I've wanted to do something like this for a long time, but with a very mild chop, and I prefer the sculptured side detail of the '63 over the rest of the spacebirds.

It just seems odd to me that they would make something like that. It's like Ford making custom parts for Chevys.

No different then using a set of AMT parts pack tires or a set of Aoshima or Fujimi wheels on a kit made by someone else.

It's very different. AMT parts pack tires can be used on AMT kits and other kits, but since Revell vans are already custom it isn't very useful for Revell kits.

So what? They were made to be used on whatever kit you like, not just Revell kits.

How many people have you seen post a kit on here with parts from some other manufacturer?

Why would AMT sell parts pack whitewall or white letter tires when any AMT kit you'd want to use them on come with them now already? ?

Mail call today.Even though I sold off most of my model collection, I got a great deal on both of these before I decided to sell.

Nothing uncommon.  Revell 1969 Boss 302 because one can never have enough Mustangs.  Also a Revell 1969 Chevelle SS396 because I have always liked that GM body style to the exclusion of most others.

Because AMT kits don't come with every type of tire that they offer in a parts pack. I think you missed my point, which is why I used the Chevy/Ford comparison. My question was mostly rhetorical anyways, I wasn't attacking you. I think it's a neat parts pack but it doesn't make sense to me for Revell to make a parts pack that isn't as useful on a Revell kit. Companies usually make things that promote sales of their own other products, not competing companies products.

Ah, OK, I get your point now. Looking at it like that it was a strange move.

Sorry if I came off hostile.

I think Revell still had people writing letters to them asking for "parts packs", so they brought those out as opposed to reissuing the early Sixties parts packs.  Those wouldn't have sold at that time; department stores wouldn't have stocked them as the small packages would have been easy to shoplift.  Besides, custom vans and pickups were The Big Thing at that time anyway.

Those packs didn't work well with Revell kits simply because many of the items in them were duplicates of parts already in Revell pickup and van kits.  MPC's van kits (Dodge, and later, Ford) had interior detail but the AMT Chevy van did not.  MPC never got around to putting fender flares in their Dodge van kits.  So there was something of a market there.  The pickup parts pack seems to have not done as well, as they turn up more often today.

I never saw those packs in any department store back in the day.  I forget when those came out (1976-77) but they were a one-shot deal.  I didn't remember Auto World ever carrying them...looked in their catalog for whatever year that was...AW wasn't carrying any Revell items that year!

The van pack has some interesting items and might be worthwhile if you find one at a reasonable price.  The pickup pack, not so much.  I don't think Atlantis could do much with these if they have the tooling...don't think they'd sell well at today's prices (probably pretty close to what a complete car kit would sell for).

Bought another relatively cheap builtup Ferrari 275P for a windshield and other parts I need for my ongoing build thread. As I'm intending to do a full-detail 275P sometime in the future anyway, it won't go to waste. And you can never have too many Ferraris, right?
