What "other " site are you talking about? If it's Scale Auto, they have PLENTY on the home page borders, plus pop-up ads that have to be closed before you can see the page. Look quickly, before this gets deleted.

At least on the "other" site all of the ads are at least related to the model car hobby. The ads that are coming up here are general ads for any kind of product or service. Most of the ads I've seen have been for insurance companies. We all come to the forum to get away from the real world. Seeing an ad for Auto World or a die-cast seller is fine by me, seeing ads for insurance companies or Viagra crosses the line. Ads like that will kill this forum and drive people back to the "other" place. I kind of wondered why when the forum came back online after the malware attack that Gregg wasn't complaining about how much the new server cost him out of his pocket, he obviously found a way to fund those costs.......to the detriment of the forum itself.

After being down for two weeks because of malware warnings, I'm surprised the admins would allow ads like this. Seems like we're asking for trouble. Admins, please don't be offended. You have a tough job, and you do it well. I just would not have allowed ads in the posts.

Jonathan, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks for the tip.

That said, I think the pop ups, though annoying and unappreciated, are a small price to pay to keep this stimulating site going and I'm behind whatever Gregg has to do to provide us our little kingdom here. It's actually less intrusive than other sites.

PS: I didn't start this thread - it was a response to another thread by Gregg, and it got moved here. I would never put 2 Ds in "Ads."

[Never mind. I fixed it. I would delete this post if I could.]

Don't quite understand anyone's problems with the ads. Don't these critics go to other websites?

Gregg has been paying for this site out of his own pocket for years, and there's nothing wrong with doing what all other media have been doing for generations. I pay for cable channels that are supported by ads. I pay for all kinds of Internet services that are supported by ads. I buy magazines and newspapers that are supported by ads.

Who's paying for access to this site?

I went to download it, and IE says this type of file may harm my computer?!

IE doesn't like ad-ons because it thinks it's perfect, and legitimately, there are some products that can cause problems. Ad-Block is NOT one of them. I use it myself and it works wonderfully. What's nice is you can selectively disable it if you need to.

The ads don't bother me at all. VERY minimal compared to everywhere else on the net - or in print, for that matter.

Why should the site be free for everyone except Gregg?

Just my 2 rappen's worth.

because Gregg should be honoured to have some of the guys on here, infact he should pay them LOL
