Ramfins59 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 This little guy got finished up tonight. To recap the WIP thread, it is a Johan promo that I picked up at the NNL East show in April. It's painted Tamiya Gray Green and Tamiya British Green. The grille was blackwashed with the Detailer and clear headlight llenses from my parts box were glued over the chrome headlights to look a little better. I used narrow whitewall tires from my parts box instead of the promo's blackwalls. I added an interior and exterior mirror and an antenna made from a printer pin and stainless steel surgical tubing. You can see the interior detailing in the WIP thread. I'm really happy with the way that this car turned out. Thanks for checking it out. Now I have to decide which one to work on next.
Chris White Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Cool Richard, will you be providing any BMF courses !!!!
PappyD340 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Another extremely NICE job Rich, looks fantastic!
Eshaver Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 So Richard, are you doing all of these vintage cars to display as a group ?
Drgon63 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 it looks awsome Rich... ya done good buddy....love that color combo also.... by the way the 58 olds looks amazing also...
Porscheman Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Beautiful Rich. I like it with the interior.
Ramfins59 Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks very much everyone. These promo's are fun to work on...... you don't have to worry about engine or chassis work. No Chris, I don't think I'll be doing any courses in BMF'ing. Ed, when I get enough of the '56 builds completed I'll probably post a "Class of '56" group picture like I did a few months ago for the "Class of '58". Now I seriously need to get another display cabinet to put my finished builds in... I'm running out of room.
TooOld Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Very nice Rich ! You have a regular model factory going there . . . while I'm screwing around with ideas for a build you're popping them out like an assembly line !
Ramfins59 Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks Bob. Actually, I had 3 models in the works at the same time......very unusual for me......I had the '58 Olds, the '56 DeSoto, and this Plymouth all going at the same time. The way things worked out I was able to finish them all up in the same week. Now I'll sort of go "back to normal" and work on one at a time.....at least I think I will anyway.
Tom Geiger Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Wow Rich! You are on fire! Three builds off the bench in record time.... can't wait to see what's next!
Lovefordgalaxie Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Loved it!! What a great color combo, and finish.
Dominik Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 With your little changes (mirror, headlights, antenna) this promo looks reeeeeeal better now! Well done Richard *thumpsup*
Ridge Rider Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Thanks Rich for sharing another rare build. I love seeing old models/promos given new life-keep em coming..
ChevyCoupe41 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Thats look very cool! Paint job looks nice and that BMF work is stunning! Very Nice Job!
charlie8575 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Very nice. The narrow-band whites give the look of a well-kept used car from the early-mid 1960s or a nice weekend cruiser with the more modern license plate. I like the colors, too. Charlie Larkin
realgone58 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Rich, that's beautiful! Great colors! Where'd ya get the skirts for it? I'd love to find a set for mine.
Harry P. Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Rich, you are the KING of the '50s! Another beauty from you. Keep 'em coming... we love this stuff!
Harry P. Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Cool Richard, will you be providing any BMF courses !!!! Rich, do you own stock in BMF? At the rate you use it, you should!
ChrisBcritter Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Rich, did you have any trouble fitting the Modelhaus interior like what happened on the DeSoto? I have a '56 Plymouth that's going to be a mild custom (lowered, shaved, '58 Ford side trim, deep dish chrome reverses from the '57 T-bird and converted to a 2-door) and the interior is the next big item.
Ramfins59 Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Thank you all so much for your kind words. Charlie, actually I just looked through my decal stash for a license plate that was green, to go along with the color of the car. Alan, I got the skirts from The Modelhaus along with the interior, replacement chromed grille and bumpers, and vacu-formed glass. Harry, thanks a bunch, but I'm no "King" of anything really, I just really like the cars from the 50's. I'm glad that you do too. I should buy stock in BMF, I'm glad that I bought a bunch back in April at NNL East. Christopher, yes, the Modelhaus' interior wasn't exactly a "drop in fit". The problem was that even the vacu-formed glass had to be cut/trimmed at the bottom right up to the bottom edge of the window openings, especially at the vent windows, in order to get the interior to fit. Also, there is no "positive locator" for the front of the interior to use for gluing it in. While the Modelhaus interiors for promo's are excellently detailed, they take some trial and error fitting over and over to get it right, and it's tough to get everything fitted right before final assembly because of paint and foil and glass issues. I look forward to seeing your mild custom Plymouth.
