Tom Geiger Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I understand that accidents happen, especially with a huge operation like the USPS. But since my friend paid them to deliver an item that they not only failed to deliver, but have also apparently lost, I don't think that a refund of the postage paid would be out of line. Or at least a credit for him at the PO for the amount he spent to mail the book. Agreed. They should refund all the postage. But the way things work, you'd probably have to pay postage to mail the box back to him so he could bring it back to the originating post office!

I guess we just have to write this one off as a lost cause.
Danno Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 How do I do that? At my local PO? Or is there a number to call or a website? https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contactus/filecomplaint.aspx Tell them about all 8 items . . . there may be a pattern.
Harry P. Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 No link there for lost mail. I'm going to go to the PO in person tomorrow. My local PO is less than a mile away from my house.
cobraman Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I went to my local PO when my issue of MCM was arriving in poor condition. They filled out a form and ever since this magazine ( as well as others which will remain nameless ) they have arrived in much better condition.

Harry, You're not talking about lost mail, are you? I thought you said the package arrived but the contents were missing. That's mail theft. Postal Inspectors.

charlie8575 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 That depends on what you personally consider "good quality." There are definitely still the "big names" appearing there. Whether or not you like any of them is personal opinion, but yes, the "big stars" still appear there. I've seen Penn and Teller's show there, the Beatle's/Cirque du Soleil "Love" show (amazing!!!), big name comics, etc. There is something for everyone, from the adults-only stuff to family-friendly shows that you can safely take your kids and grandma to and not be embarrassed by what you see/hear. If you can't find a show in Vegas that appeals to you, you're not trying! Ooohhh...I forgot abut Penn and Teller. That'll be fun. One of the best magic acts. I've heard Frank, Jr. does Vegas every so often. A friend of mine went to see him at Twin River in Rhode Island and said "not quite his dad, but still very, very good; well worth the money and time." If I find myself drifting out there, I'll have to see what's playing. AAA can probably get me the list of what's where. Charlie Larkin
Agent G Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Any Cirq show, Penn and Teller, Blue Man Group, Celine Dion, The Rat Pack, etc etc etc On the strip you have: Car exhibits, arboretums, lakes, fountains, shark tanks, bird sanctuaries, The Titanic, Bodies, CSI, etcetcetc. There is a massive ferris wheel, about 200 pools, 300 bars, a tram, pirate ships etcetcetc That's maybe four or five properties............ Harry P. Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I hated Blue Man Group. Three guys with blue faces eating cereal and banging on pipes. It's like the Three Stooges without the sophistication.
Tom Geiger Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) My irk is more with UPS than USPS. We have a curb side mail box so whenever I get a USPS package they have to exit the truck and walk the 100 feet or so up my driveway. They never fail to bring it all the way to my front door and make sure it's under the roof there, often ringing the bell so I know I got a package. UPS on the other hand is the master of short cuts. The guy will drive the truck up my driveway, then toss the package out in the driveway. I've found them out on the pavement, on the hood of my car and even under the car. They would never take the 25 foot walk to the front door. Never! In the weeks before NNL East I was missing packages that showed as delivered. I found soggy UPS deliveries under my Jaguar that we hadn't driven that week. They didn't even make an effort to put the package in my garage door frame where it would have had some shelter. The other thing I hate about UPS are those "UPS Stores". Although they have big UPS logos on them, they are independent franchises that can make up any rules they want and charge you whatever they want! I had mailed a few packages at those stores over the years and it seemed expensive, as if I had been taken. The store will never tell you they upcharge, but they do! After NNL East last year, I had several prepaid packages to send back to the model manufacturers, and the UPS Store wouldn't take them! The guy told me that UPS didn't pay them to accept those so they didn't! This year I had a huge heavy box going back to it's owner, and the UPS Store told me it was too big. So in both those instances I had to drive all the way to the UPS depot, about 20 minutes away. Edited June 27, 2014 by Tom Geiger
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Sounds like the UPS stores are "useless." I shipped a Lamborghini crankshaft to Spain from mine, no problem. But that was several years ago. Maybe, like most things, service is deteriorating? Then again, UPS is based here.
High octane Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Yes Bill, it does seem like a lot of services have been sub-par over the years including (oops, no politics), and then again I have seen service on the rise at other establishments.
cobraman Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 For health reasons I walk every morning. It was 90 degrees when I was walking at 5:00 am this morning but that's not my gripe. I knew it was hot in the summer when I moved here. Anyway, we have a lot of paths, trails as well as walkways and greenbelts in the neighborhood. Many times while I am out walking I come across people who are walking their dogs. I notice that most folks ( not all ) pick up when their dog leaves a lawn sausage. My irk is that when people who ride horses on the paths/trails and their horses drop a load the size of a bowling ball they get to just leave it in the middle of the trail. Watch your step !!
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Don't think of it as horse crapp on the trail...think of it as free fertilizer conveniently delivered almost to your door.
Joe Handley Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) We call those Road Apples around here. Went out to a park to do some R/C trail running with some friends and we ran across something along those lines that can't in any way could be referred as a simple apple. o_O Edited June 30, 2014 by Joe Handley

Rob Hall Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 'lawn sausage'...good one. Though the product my dogs produce is shaped/sized more like Hershey's Kisses or mini Tootsie Rolls.

charlie8575 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 So I found this really neat model on eBay. Nobody seemed too interested in it, and I put in a somewhat high bid. I figured that from the looks of the bidding, I was probably going to win and get a pretty good deal on it, too. I was at a friend's house earlier, and I went to check in on the auction, maybe five minutes after it ended. I lost- by ONE dollar. That hurt a little. But what really ticked me off is that eBay apparently no longer sends out the "You've been outbid" messages. Now, granted, I probably wouldn't have been able to work around it (and it got to a price point where, to me anyway, it was no longer worth it,) but it would've been nice to have received that anyway. I also never got an initial bid confirmation. I suspect someone used one of those "snipe" programs, which, in my opinion, ought to be banned, as to me, they're somewhat dishonest, and have a bad habit of distorting the prices. Oh well....there's an unbuilt example of the same- just trying to figure out if I want to spend the money or not. Charlie Larkin
