James2 Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 Managed to get a few pieces sprayed with Alclad Chrome this weekend. Here is the rear bumper. And compared to before... I found a few flaws in the body work so I'll be working that out before painting. But getting nearer!
LogTripper Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 This looks amazing! I'm working on a 49' Merc and really only getting started in the hobby. I probably won't venture into making cuts and modifying as you have but hopefully I'll get there some day! Looking forward to the updates!
James2 Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 After a little research I realize in 1:1 the skirts could not come off to change a tire. I have drawn a line where the separation could be. I am thinking of a slight scribe line there. Or leave it alone? What do you think?
slusher Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 lt really looks good leave it alone. May cause more work if something goes wrong..
Darren B Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I agree, its seamless now and if you make a seem can take away from the flow of the over all look, I love right where its at now. can not wait to see this baby done.
DrKerry Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Leave it alone, back in the day a skirt like yours would have been removable. The entire skirt would come off.
James2 Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) Leave it alone, back in the day a skirt like yours would have been removable. The entire skirt would come off. Thanks guys, my thought was because it is molded in at the rear there is no line showing a removable skirt. No reason to scribe one in except for realism, after all it is a plastic model! Shardik Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I think I see where your coming from here. I always strive to make sure things make sense, or are at least plausible. The dilemma, ironically, stems from the quality of the work you have already done: the body lines flow so well, and a seam here might be somewhat disruptive. My vote would be to do it. If left off, the question of plausibility will always be there. Whereas looking at a 1:1 car there are panel lines all over the place that our minds simply ignore. You've got a good enough eye that I think you could pull it off.
DrKerry Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 You could take a thin strip of chrome and run it up the backside of the fin from the bumper up along the edge to simulate a seperation in the skirt and body. Just a thought.
blunc Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 have you considered cleaning up the engine compartment a bit by moving the battery to the trunk?
blunc Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I haven't seen you post any info regarding plans for tail lights on this so I thought I'd throw out an idea. The flow of bodywork from the skirts to the rear bumper looks like '53 Caddy tail lights would be a nice fit and still keep the nice lines you have already incorporated. Just notch in a bit and add red lens.
freakshow12 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I have seen customs In 1:1 that appear to have this problem. Cadzilla comes to mind. It though has the chrome trim to hide it. Here is my thought, lightly scribe around the whole perimeter of the skirt. Givebit a slightly darker wash and BAM! looks like whole unit can be removed without taking away from those sweet lines...
James2 Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) I decided to leave the skirts alone because of the risk of ruining the panels. I thought about the Caddy lights but have the same concerns as with the skirts. At this point I would hate to damage the body. I may be going more traditional with the tail lights. Here is the engine... Edited November 29, 2013 by James2
James2 Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) Found these side pipes in the parts box but the shape would not work. I trimmed the ends and bent up some that work much better. And some mock up shots, still have lots to do... Getting into a real cold snap here, won't be painting much for awhile, but have plenty of projects to work on! Edited December 7, 2013 by James2
James2 Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) Been a little while but since the Buick is done, the Merk is next on the list, just pulled the tape. After a few days to dry I'll be able to assemble. TS-12 and Light Ivory Edited May 11, 2014 by James2
BIG NICKY Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 this car looks amazing and the detail you have incorporated is absolutely stunning
Dinky Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Great customization of this model, you are doing a great job. Paintwork is great
