João Canas Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Hello all, As a petrolhead, I like the American pony car/muscle car concept of the late sixties-early seventies. They're simply awesome. The looks, the noise, the smell, it just overwhelms all your senses. Couldn't care less about dynamics or performance, these cars are beyond that. It’s about soul, something that lacks in most modern cars. As you may have guessed, most of my stock pile of unbuilt kits comprises Detroit iron of that era, as well as some of my finished models. So I would like to present these Mustangs, built a few years ago. The white one represents a 1965 Shelby GT350R that raced at Le Mans in 1967. Added some scratch built detail to the engine bay and to the interior. It’s painted with Zero paints, including the stripes, instead of decals. The blue Shelby represents a 1966 road car modded with Webber carbs, scratch built. Shelby Mustangs WIP here: http://www.automodelista.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=7071&start=30 The 1971 Mach1 is a curbside Arii kit. It comes with nonstandard wheels that I tried to make them look not too bad, and no decals. All stripes were masked and painted. The green color is as well non-standard. I just mixed this color trying to come up with a sort of lime green metallic shade by mixing a lot of different colors (Vallejo, Tamiya and Gunze - luckily the mix didn´t explode on the workbench). Some more photos here: http://www.automodelista.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6926&hilit=mach+1 And finally, the oddball BMW M Coupe was built from a rather bad curbside Revell pre-painted kit, that I rebuilt using a proper BMW color mixed by Zero paints. I photographed this lot together because I wanted to see how this European modern interpretation of a muscle car would look like among seriously evil company. Hope you like! Regards from Lisbon
DonW Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Very nice builds.I'd drive the BMW, but I prefer looking at the Fords!
Zarana-X Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Outstanding work on all of them. Very lifelike!
Maindrian Pace Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 It's hard to imagine that the side stripes on the Mach 1 aren't decals, they may be the best taped and painted stripes I've ever seen. All are fantastic builds. -MJS
mustang1989 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Those are some cool looking set of wheels you built there! I have the 66 Mustang in my stash and think its about halfway built but may have to re-hash it. Good job on your builds!
o-man Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 AWESOME!! Love every one of them. Don't see many of the M coupes built.
TooOld Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Wow , those are nice !! You have major skills . Beautiful work !
Erik Smith Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Great looking models and awesome photos!
Rossa156 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 The detail work on your Le Mans Mustang is superb. Excellent choice! Patrick
Jordan 191 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 There is something about really nice, perfect builds that makes your eyes just "relax". These builds do that for me.
João Canas Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) The masking of the 1971 Mach1 was a bit of a pain but it was worth it. I cut thin strips of Tamiya masking tape (18mm roll) with a scalpel blade. I prefer this method instead of using ready made thin strip rolls (0.5mm, 0.75mm etc) it just doesn't work for me. If you cut very thin strips (slightly less than 0.5mm) you can mask any curved line you need, provided you take your time to set dow the strip carefully. Thanks everyone for your kind words. I'm very happy that you liked these builds Edited November 21, 2013 by João Canas
PappyD340 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 OUTSTANDING builds, and no one would have ever known that the stripes on the 71 were not decals if you had not told us amazing job on that, I have a friend who has a 71 Mach that is original lime green, your builds look great!!
geordie Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Awesome detail work on the Mustangs, you should be very proud of these, good work !!!
