Jantrix Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Tonight I got in the car to go pick up a pizza and the radio was blaring "Feliz Navidad" . I turned it off very quickly. I'm not ready for Christmas. That goes double for me. I don't get into the spirit until about ten days before the holiday.
slusher Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Christmas gets kinda ruined by all these retail stores overstocking certain odd holiday items which nobody gets and the repetitive Christmas soundtracks playing from about late October to January 2nd I used to dread the period while working in home depot because instead of building beautiful Weber summit and genesis grills, i was told to just sell "Christmas merchandise" Well after failing at that i quickly switched to the chain saw tree cutting position which earned some insane tips. Sorry gang, my holiday excitement meter is flatlining..... Does absolutely nothing for me. I'd rather buy my Wife a gift or flowers randomly instead of coporate-fueled buy frenzies. My local Sears Hardware had X-mas decorations up last month..... That's nothing more than greed, NOT the "holiday" spirit. And my Wife isn't too crazy about this time of year either. Sorry, we just don't BUY into it..... Thats why the Christmas season can be so stressful...
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 While whispering sweet nothings about manufacturing in her ear? Yes, that and punctuation. Very stimulating stuff for an impressionable young woman...really...honest.
Harry P. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Yes, that and punctuation. Very stimulating stuff for an impressionable young woman...really...honest. You are one smoooooooth operator...
niteowl7710 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Tried to get the lights up over the past two days, but was told it's not even Thanksgiving yet. I didn't want to turn them on, I just felt that 55+ degree days in front of a spate of snow and highs in the 20's seemed like the prudent time to hang off a ladder. I ain't freezin' to death out there again this year, the better half can get frost-bite or we'll just not have outdoor lights this year. I love Christmas, even more so with two little kids, but when you live in the part of the country where winter means WINTER, you gotta use the nice days when you get them!
niteowl7710 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Sick. Yeah but people shopping at Hobby Lobby (Michaels, Pat Catans, AC Moore, etc) are probably more interested in CRAFTING things for Christmas and need their supplies more than 1 month before Christmas.
Agent G Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I have some lights that I string on the bushes out front. Little to no snow, lot's of rain and stupid people don't contribute to the spirit all that much. Nothing says "Christmas" better than show girls and lights on palm trees. BTW, did I mention I'm Jewish? G
Tom Geiger Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I used to do the full light show thing when my kids were young. My luck always was that I'd be out there on a cold windy day, then the next Saturday it would be 60 degrees again! Here in PA, the house sits far enough back from the road that small items wouldn't be seen. My wife will put a wreath on the door and her candle lights in the windows. Good enough. And while watching TV last night, I saw a Mercedes Christmas ad. I hate those ads with luxury cars with Christmas bows on them! It's like they're laughing at us!
Harry P. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 And while watching TV last night, I saw a Mercedes Christmas ad. I hate those ads with luxury cars with Christmas bows on them! Yeah, what are they, too cheap to wrap them???
Nxr Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) The lease contract should be in the bow tie, or i guess all of the sudden we have people buying 50,000$ Mercedes as a Christmas gift, must be doing very well i see. Edited November 22, 2013 by Nxr
Rob Hall Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Lexus has been doing Christmas ads w/ the cars w/ bow for at least a decade or more..
Pete J. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 After 15 years of getting up at 3 am to get to Sears, to work a 12 hour shift with all the black Friday loony's, I am finally free to enjoy the holiday with my family and friends. Those who hate the holidays probably work in retail and it gets worse every year. This year at the mall, most of the stores are opening at 6 pm on Thanksgiving day. If all these people have to work on Thanksgiving and the day after until they drop, why have a holiday. I truly feel sorry for them. I may go in with some cookies just for my old coworkers. Try to brighten the day a little. Perhaps I could encourage some of you to go out on Black Friday just for a few random acts of kindness to those who have to suffer because of their jobs. As to decorations, well, yes I do. Simple but I think tasteful. No blow up snow men, no Santa's on the roof. Just a simple nod to the cold icicles where I grew up. We don't have such things in SoCal. I know it is early, but Merry Christmas!
Harry P. Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I know it is early, but Merry Christmas! No offense, but can we do one holiday at a time? Can we at least get through Thanksgiving before we start the "Merry Christmas" thing? Seriously. The bell ringers are already standing outside store doors here. It's still a week before Thanksgiving.
wrecker388 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 The "Christmas season" used to start after Thanksgiving. Now I see Christmas displays in the stores the day after Halloween! What next? We start the "Christmas season" the day after Labor Day? We have had our tree up since the day after Halloween.
Harry P. Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 We have had our tree up since the day after Halloween. Why?
wrecker388 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Why? My mom likes to get things done early. lol
Harry P. Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 My mom likes to get things done early. lol Does she celebrate the 4th of July in April?
cobraman Posted November 23, 2013 Author Posted November 23, 2013 Wife brought 2 of these home. I guess nothing says Merry Christmas in Arizona like a cactus that lights up and has a Santa hat. : ) More extension cords please.
martinfan5 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 One of our local radio stations has already started with the Christmas music 24/7 , they do this every year, and on a radio forum, every year there is a thread about when will the station start for the coming season

Well, the title is Christmas decorations, not Thanksgiving decorations. I hope your holidays are happy, filled with family and friends. I hope they warm your heart and sole and make you a joy to be around. But more than all that, I hope when the season rolls around next year, the memories of these holidays make you smile. Nxr Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Haha i love the cactus, i am so getting one now to display out here in NY, the cactus brings me a lot of laughter.
DrKerry Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 We used to decorate, but living in a three story townhouse I ain't getting a cherry picker to hang lights!!!!
Eshaver Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I'll put a couple of light bulbs out on the front porch, just to appease my neighbors whom I despise in the second week of December . MAYBE, by the 12th, I might slog to a Christmas Tree lot . I usually don't bother doing a tree until the 18th . Ill send a few select few here on of my PERSONALIZED Christmas cards. You have to be SOMEBODY to get one of my cards .............
Tom Geiger Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) I'll put a couple of light bulbs out on the front porch, just to appease my neighbors My wife was asking about dragging out the tree just this morning. So we'll put that up probably next weekend. She'll put her Christmas Village on the server in the dining room. Outside, we'll put a wreath on the front door, and my wife has electric Christmas candles that do in the front windows. Our house sits back maybe 200 feet from the road, so people see it from a distance as they drive by. Most people in our neighborhood decorate their mailbox, which sits on the road. I'll probably add a bow and garland or something out there. I have a solar deck light sitting on top of the post, so it's already lit up. Christmas Village file photos! From a few years ago.
