Nick Winter Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Built for a friend, Sort of an early christmas gift, his 1:1 is original other than paint and bumper covers which he had redone shortly after he purchased the car, they were in dire need of replacement and the paint was shot. Any way some history, lowest horsepower V8 Corvette weighing in at 175 Gross Horsepower, first year for HEI Distributors on Vette's, First year for Cat con's on Vette's, and first year for the Electric Tach, also the only year for Corvette Bright Green with a whopping 1664 cars built in that color for all of North America. It's a fun car, not super stupid fast, but it doesn't need to be, it is quick, and if you get on the throttle it does go...........and you can hear the quadrajet open the secondaries and try to suck the hood down it. So, I did what I had to too end up with it as close as possible, the paint is the real deal, I went and saw the bodyman who painted the 1:1 because he had paint leftover, I will admit mistakes I made, it was my first time using a automotive paint that I required a reducer. Same goes for the clear, first time using it and I think I know what I did wrong with both (still have 2 models to build for my friend of other toys he has/ had) Don't like it, don't comment. Nick
Nick Winter Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) Few more, and yes I know the back plate is crooked and that the hood doesn't sit right, I tried for the life of me to get that hood straight but thats as good as it got. I also know the 1:1 car has a single system with a Y and then faux duals, but soon it will have a system as modeled. The windshield is a bit of a mess, but it's not actually intended for this car and thats as good as it got. Nick Edited December 3, 2013 by Nick Winter
Lunajammer Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Too bad about the windshield and hood, but I think paint looks great. I don't see any issues. Love the body work, nice conversion.
Guest Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Overall a very nice build. Your friend should be very happy.
TooOld Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I like it very much Nick ! The paint looks okay to me and I love that color . Your friend should be pleased with it . . . and tell him his original looks awesome !
DumpyDan Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Nice! You did a great job, love how it turned out.
ToyLvr Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Nick: Good job, considering what you had to work with. That yellow plastic version of the MPC kit is a rough one.....
berr13 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Looks good! I think it's neat to be able to model someone's car, either another persons or your own. Gives the model special meaning...
Deathgoblin Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Looks good! I like the color, and the overall build quality is great.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Nick, you've came a long way from when you first started... This is a nice build... So you had paint issues... Who doesn't... You pulled off a fantastic job....
robertw Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 All of those MPC C3 Corvette hoods fit poorly. I've built several and tried everything I could think of to correct the hood and the only thing that seems to work is to just leave it up so be prepared to detail the engine.
Jantrix Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Great conversion. I think you did a nice job.
philo426 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Cool nick!I am glad that the vette body I sent you was put to good use!
Harry P. Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yeah, it's not perfect, as you admit. But the fact that you spent the time to build it for a friend is way more important than the end result. Your friend will be very pleased, I'm sure. Nicely done, Nick.
Nick Winter Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 I appreciate the Comments, I still have a Duster and Challenger to build for the same friend, He only knows about the Challenger, the Vette and Duster are surprises! Nick: Good job, considering what you had to work with. That yellow plastic version of the MPC kit is a rough one..... Rough is a good way to describe this kit. The hood sort of fits like I came from another kit. Cool nick!I am glad that the vette body I sent you was put to good use! It helped immensely
Maindrian Pace Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Nice job Nick, it's a dead ringer and a very thoughtful gift. -MJS
