Randytheroadrunner Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Saw this hand built '66 Polara wagon on Ebay today. This looks really nice. I'd like to see this done as a resin kit. He says he started out with the convertible.
Joe Handley Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 WOW, looks fantastic! I sure hope he's asking for enough money on that.
Pete J. Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Very nice model, but it falls into the "Why?" category for me. I guess if that was a family car you might want one, but the effort to create and master this thing seems a bit much for the small market. Glad he has a couple of bidders. I am always glad to see someone get a little reward for their effort.
Randytheroadrunner Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 My father had a '66 Polara 9 passenger station wagon in that off tan color with a 383 4 barrel. It had that rear facing seat that made everyone that rode back there carsick. I became a Mopar fan when he got that car.
Jantrix Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Wagons are getting more popular these days. The longroof crowd will throw a surfboard on top and cruise them all day long.
Guest Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 The seller states in his description that it is a resin kit. Taken from the ebay listing: Up for auction is a painted and assembled 1/25-scale resin kit of a 1966 Dodge Polara station wagon. It is built as a curbside model with the hood glued shut. The wheels roll freely and sit on early-’70s Goodyear whitewall tires by MPC. The kit is molded from a master I made, starting with a squashed Polara convertible. In addition to the obvious modifications to the body, the headlights have been enlarged slightly to the proper size. Experienced model car collectors know the headlights look too small on the original MPC ’66 Polara and Monaco kits. Please look at the photos and judge for yourself – what you see is what you get. It is being sold in “as is” condition with no returns. Please submit questions you may have before bidding. Payment is by Paypal only and is expected within three days of the auction close. Thanks for looking and good luck!

I am always glad to see someone get a little reward for their effort. If you ever watch eBay listings for kits like this, they tend to sell well above "popular" style cars (two door, muscle, Camaro types). I have seen well built wagon and four door models go well beyond $400 on eBay - and well built Camaro models going for less than a new kit. There is a small, devoted group that loves factory stock builds of unusual subjects. I guarantee three figures on that model. Long roofs are the shizzle too, have been gaining in popularity for a few years. Looks very well made. Edited December 6, 2013 by Erik Smith
TooOld Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 It looks really good but it has a couple of issues : First the rear of the roof is too tall , and if you look at the windshield you can see the roof is crooked . Not exactly what you'd expect from a quality resin caster . There's probably more that are not noticeable in photos . I'll pass .
Edsel-Dan Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Wonder if he would sell an unpainted/unbuilt resin set?? I Do Love wagons!! Hate those mini-vans that took over!!!!!!!!!!
uncle potts Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 My dad also had one of these, his was blue with the wood grain panel on the side. I love this build and would do one myself if it was available in resin.
Randytheroadrunner Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 I think the roof is right on. This car is exactly like the one dad had.
slusher Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Sweet model. l wish there was more kits of station wagons..
gbdolfans Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 WOW!!! the bidding is up to $360.00.The chassis is a screw on type, front and back, and it looks like there is no engine. It does look GREAT!!!
lordairgtar Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I think the roof is right on. This car is exactly like the one dad had. 1966-Dodge-Polara-station-wagon.png look closer. The wagon in your photo does not have the rear quarter slope down as the model's does. The glass remains level with the quarter on an even plain. The model has the quarter slope down some as it meets the end, with a bit of fill below the window. I think his model also has the rear pillar a bit wide...maybe about a millimeter and a half. Still a nice model though, despite the irregularities.

The guy that just spent $405 plus shipping on it is going to be pissed when he gets it!
