MadKaw6 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Fireball Robert's '57 Ford. Built mostly box stock. I removed the mufflers and rerouted the exhaust through the trunk and out the tailight covers. I added tow lights to the back and bungee cords to hold the hood and trunk closed.. Built a small trap door behind the right front for Fireball to check the tread depth. Also added a scratchbuilt timing light and a pull cord to use with the trap door and a leather strap to hold the shifter in second gear. The only thing I did extra to the engine was add sparkplug wires. I used tires from PPP and wheels from a '62 Pontiac. The suspension is lowered 1mm to make up the difference of the taller tires. It's painted with Model Master enamel and Alclad II. I weathered it with pastel chalks.
afx Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Excellent! I love the added details. I assume you added the bolted straps to hold the doors shut. I need to get this kit.
slusher Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Super build, real nice weathering and detail..
o-man Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Great job! Did you have to route the exhaust out tail lights or does kit come that way?
Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 WOW, that looks awesome!! That's what I call a proper stock car racer!!
the goon Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Super build, real nice weathering and detail.. +1 Mark
bbowser Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Very cool! The hood tie downs / handle and the door straps are awesome details. I didn't know they routed the exhaust through the taillights back then, I've seen the 55 Chryslers running above the bumper.
Silver Foxx Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I love these old racers , this is a great build , lots of great detail and the light weathering looks real nice .
MadKaw6 Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) Great job! Did you have to route the exhaust out tail lights or does kit come that way? The kit comes with a stock street car exhaust. I removed the mufflers and replaced them with Evergreen tubing. Then rerouted the exhaust into the trunk. The exhaust tips coming out of tailight covers are the ones that come with the kit. Again, thanks everybody for the compliments. It means a lot. Edited February 8, 2014 by MadKaw6
Ramcharger Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I really like all of the little details that you added, they make the model come alive. Lots of things on this car I didn't know they did in the 50's.
lordairgtar Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Are the add on tail lights from the kit? or were they from something else. They look like truck tail lights.
RancheroSteve Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Very well done! Any more info on the tires? I'm not familiar with PPP.
David G. Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Excellent work, I love all the added detail and weathering. David G.
