Jantrix Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) Here's the kit. Here's the start. I think this model is very doable without much chassis modification. I'll try to get it a few mils lower. I'll use the 302 with some old school parts to give it a vintage look. No decisions on finish yet but I'm thinking of about bare metal. I'm also wondering about a top chop. I'd value any opinions. As always any comments or criticisms are kindly welcome. Edited June 12, 2016 by Jantrix
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) Rob, I'd say chop it a little... The rendering looks like it's got a mild chop on it and I'd say it would look great with a chop... And that is freaking cool as hell! Ok, I'm gonna have to try this myself someday... JollySipper Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Cool idea, Rob! Are you going with full wheel covers in the front and steels in the back? Kinda makes the car......
crazyjim Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The back half of the body was chopped off and replaced with gas tank? I like the shape of the rear fenders. The drawing does look chopped. Excellent start, Rob.
Jantrix Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Cool idea, Rob! Are you going with full wheel covers in the front and steels in the back? Kinda makes the car...... Wheels are tires are still up in the air. Maybe just some old school chrome wheels with baby moons to keep the smooth look but still be classic.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Cool project ! Yes!! Who did the original concept sketch? Just goes to show there's always something new and different to be done with a '32.
slusher Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The sketch looks great and leaves lots of room for ideas and build options. Looking forward to it Rob..
Jantrix Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) No idea who drew it, Bill or where I got it. I just sort of collect images from FB or the HAMB or wherever. If something is cool and can be built from a model it goes in the "inspiration" folder and I pull one out now and again. It will be chopped. At least 1/8" coming out. Stay tuned. Jantrix Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) Here it is post-chop. A bit over 1/8 inch. Removed the drip rail as well. Lots of clean up to do. More soon. Edited May 24, 2014 by Jantrix
bpletcher55 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 nice project , all ways love the diff, ways to do a 32 , looks like a winner ,
DeeCee Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Great start, i like what you are trying to replicate. i'm a strong believer of chopping stuff, that way it will always be different. Will be watching this one.
Jantrix Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) This why I really don't enjoy chopping a top. Door and character lines lost in the process. Lots to clean up still. Since the rear of the chassis will be bare, I got my trusty jewelers saw out and went to work. I understand that on their own those tabs would not support the chassis. I'll be adding a cross bar and join it with the rear support which will also support the gas tank. I'm also kicking around using these wheels as well. More soon. Edited May 26, 2014 by Jantrix
Modelbuilder Mark Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 pretty cool project idea, keep going, you are on the right track it appears.
slusher Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I see your point about the chop. The body is shaping up nicely...
Jantrix Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 I see your point about the chop. The body is shaping up nicely... Thanks. I'm going to get my needle files out today and see if I can't restore the window lines. I've no plans to rat rod this and cover the issues with rust and what not. I'm going to try for a bare metal look, so I want it to be as perfect as I can get it. Wish me luck.
crazyjim Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 What about using the backside of an Xacto blade or the tip of a Zona saw, Rob?
crazyrichard Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 whow thats one mean looking ford on the sletch , love it !! and yours is looking great already !!btw i always use fine metal files on styrene and that works greatcant waight to see more of this build !!oh and cool logo hahahahah lol
johnbuzzed Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) Cool project. I would consider salt flat discs all around and a kinda big, aluminum Moon tank back there. Maybe paint it chrome yellow, or zinc chromate primer...? And for the door lines, yeah, the backside of an Xacto would be good. Try a few layers of scotch tape along the lines as a guide. squirrel886 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Rob, the mid-body line that was lost can be replaced w/ thin strip styrene.
squirrel886 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Oh, as for the doors, you can use Dymo labeling tape and the back side of an x-acto blade.
