Luc Janssens Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 (edited) ...4 door instead of the regular 2 door? pick as many as you want The reason I ask, is because I was browsing in a Impala book I have and found that the '72 Impala four door hardtop, IMHO looks much much better then it's two door sibling. Jet A-1 Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I'm not sure if this relates entirely to your topic but I'd love to see a kit of an early '80's Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser wagon, complete with woodgrain. I think four door car kits are seriously under-represented and we need more of them...
Aaronw Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 How about some of the 60's Plymouths, they were popular and good looking police cars.
Phil Patterson Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I'd like to see the ex-MPC AMT 70 Bonneville as a 4 door, and if they could toss in Catalina 4 door sedans for 67 and 68 and 69, that wouldn't hurt my feelings either! And just for something off the wall, redo the old IMC-Lindberg Dodge A100 as a window van, though I think that would technically be a 6 door? Oh yeah, the AMT 70 Impala too while they're at it, make that one a BelAir 4 door sedan.
Tonioseven Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 The newer Revell Caddy 2-door would make an awesome Sedan DeVille.
Jeff Johnston Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I can't honestly think of any. But I can think of several cars that I would like to see as the more of the mainstream. Such as the Biscayne (vs: Impala), Tempest or LeMans (vs: GTO), Fairlane standard roof (vs: the torino fastback roof...), Plymouth Satellite, etc...

Zoom Zoom Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I can't think of any models already made that I'd rather have as a 4 door vs. 2 door. 4 door cars like the Mercedes CLS, BMW M5, Caddy CTS-V, Mercury Marauder would be welcome.
LDO Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Another No on this one. In America, 4-door cars are for hauling the family around.
Aaronw Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Another No on this one. In America, 4-door cars are for hauling the family around. Dodge Charger? Impala SS? I mean we have kits of mini-vans but 4 door sedans are not cool enough to sell? I didn't think cars got any unsexier than mini-vans.
MrObsessive Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I'd love for someone to kit a proper 1957-58 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham. Pic courtesy of Google A VERY sexy 4 door hardtop IMO!! Would also look kinda neat for the lowrider crowd, as it's lines suit that type of vehicle very well.
ramonesblues Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 How about a mid 60's Olds Vista cruiser? Those were cool wagons.
Phil Patterson Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 How 'bout some of these: Oh definitely! Don't forget a certain 74 Dodge Monaco while you're at it! I still find it hard to believe we haven't gotten a Bluesmobile kit yet.
HotRodaSaurus Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I liked the old Johan Cadillac 60 Special models they made, my fave being the 58 Here is something I made a few years back, I built it for a 1:1 1960 I owned. The FlatTop design is not everyones favorite but no one makes a resin or a promo so this was built from a 1/32 Gunze 59 Eldorado. I might make a new project using a Monogram Eldo kit and incorperating the roof and back window from the AMT 59 Camino
mr moto Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I'll second that vote for GM flat tops! They're among the most dramatically styled American cars ever and the '57/'58 Buick and Olds (below) ain't bad either. It seems that GM had a handle on how to design a 4 door in those days!
rick6343 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Revell SVT Focus..to a 4dr gasman, This is a cool idea, and it shouldn't be an impossible conversion-the two-door and four-door Foci hatches are the same size, so it ought to be a matter of cutting new door lines, moving the b-pillar, and modifying the door panels. Stock-size wheels and tires can be found on the Maisto die-cast SVT Focus, though I don't know where to get the great European package multispoke wheels in your photo.

AAAAH memories! Each one of those cars was somewhere in my neighborhood block circa 1965-70. Yes, they knew how to design a good lookin' 4 door back in the '50's-'60's.......somewhere along the line they lost their way, but seem to be making a comeback particularly GM. I LOVE the new for '08 Cadillac CTS (and BEAUTIFUL CTS Coupe Concept!!) If only they could make an honest to goodness 4 door hardtop again, I'd seriously consider buying a 4 door. I can't stand the way too thick B pillars in 4 doors today which block my left side peripheral vision! I'm 6'3" and have to have the seat as far back as it'll go...............that B pillar is a real pain in the rear to see around!
Billy Kingsley Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Unlike most people...I actually prefer 4-doors to 2 doors...and I don't have any intention of ever buying a 2-door (for the driveway, got plenty of kits) [of cource, if money was not an concern, a Mustang and an El Camino would be here...but I'm talking realisticly]. However, I prefer pickups to be 2-doors, especially if they have short beds. Short bed extended cab pickups just don't look right to me. For kits, I would prefer a four door for everything unless it's a kit that needs to be converted into NASCAR use (IE, 63 Ford, 62 Chevy, etc) because while I could fill the second set of door lines, I don't have the skills to re-sribe new door lines for the longer doors.
mr moto Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Speaking of GM flat tops, how about the littlest flat top?
Zoom Zoom Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Speaking of GM flat tops, how about the littlest flat top? That's the first Corvair that was made into a kit, back when they were new. This is one I did a light restoration on about 20 years ago. AMT (or SMP?) original kit from 1960. Not terribly long ago (last April) saw a perfect red one rolling down the interstate towards Atlanta.

Pretty rare here in the UK, mine had the gasoline heater that would clear a frosted screen in 30 seconds. Still got quite a few resto parts including fabric for the upholstery as no one else seems to have one in the uk Thanks, John

I don't think you will see the B post get smaller anytime soon, you need someplace to put the shoulder belt anchor and 27 airbags. Unfortunate but I guess safety after you get hit gets priortity over looks and vision before you get hit. I have the same problem of trying to see around some of these huge pillars, some of the C posts are the worst, it makes the back window like looking out a tunnel.
