I have filters at my hose bibs because our water is not real good for plant watering, never really thought about having to add a filter to the incoming line to the house. I think you'll find that a large part of what kills water heaters is "hard" water, minerals (like calcium) dissolved in the water. A "filter" will do nothing to remove them. Water "softening" technologies have been around for ages. Culligan, for instance, has been around for 80 years. I had a Culligan system in my last house, lived there for 17 years, and the 20-year-old gas water heater was still working just fine when I left (though I had converted to tankless electric on-demand units for the kitchen and laundry room). https://www.culligan.com/home/water-softening/water-softeners Here's the scoop on "hard" water... https://purifieradvisors.com/the-3-best-methods-of-water-softening/ Edited December 6, 2017 by Ace-Garageguy
Dodge Driver Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Don't forget the importance of the anode in the water heater system. http://www.hot-water-heaters-reviews.com/anode-rod.html
crazyjim Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Somewhat pleased and a little bummed out because we sold our all original 1986 Mustang GT today. Now I get to shop for a replacement. I'd really like to get a 1970 Road Runner with automatic (so Marcia could drive it) with factory air.

In fact my current modeling project is the Revell '70 road Runner kit, and I need to "pick up the pace" on it.
crazyjim Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 1970 RR seem to be going for over $40k. A bit steep for me. I'll keep looking. My neighbor has a 1947 Ford coupe they want to sell. Body is all there with the glass, SB Chevy. I don't know about the suspension. Yet.

crazyjim Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 (edited) Never heard of the place. I'll go there and check them out. Thanks. Can anyone explain to me on how I change the pic in the little circle? Edited December 7, 2017 by crazyjim

Tried to write you a nice simple set of instructions, but got the dreaded 404 message when I tried to post. I guess all the gremlins haven't been fixed yet. Basically, just go to your profile page, click the little square in the little circle, and follow the steps as they're presented. Edited December 7, 2017 by Ace-Garageguy

crazyjim Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 (edited) Thanks Bill. I'll try that. I need to find a pic that I want to change to. Went to my profile and saw what you were talking about, Bill. Off to picture hunting. Edited December 7, 2017 by crazyjim
Joe Handley Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Just took my change cups (32oz plastic drink cups filled with change) to the bank, had $220.10 between the 4!
cobraman Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Did you have to roll them ? My bank won't take them if they are not in paper rollers with my account number on each. Been using a debt card for almost all purchases so I have little change anymore.

Takes something like 10% for the service, gives you the rest in bills mostly. And one of my exes gave me a battery-powered sorter / roller. 'Bout the ONLY useful thing she ever gave me.
Dodge Driver Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 The great guys in our model club pleased me today. Every one of them deserves credit for putting their work on the table for the rest of us to see. I get to hear tips and techniques from some highly accomplished builders as well. Many thanks to them for including me.

Nope, although I think they prefer unwrapped coins so they can run it through their own counter. I don't have a debit card though, I prefer cash or check. 2 hours ago, Ace-Garageguy said: We have a gizmo at the grocery store that you just dump the change into, and it separates and counts. The Jewel/Osco Mom and I worked at has one, I'd rather take the change to my bank or roll it and bring it in for that store to use and keep that 10% Used to have a sorter too, hope yours was better than mine was.......
cobraman Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 I finished my Christmas shopping today ! Got a late start this year due to my daughters wedding . Put a crimp in my Christmas budget.

Put a crimp in my Christmas budget. Yep a wedding will do that as there's NO limit to how little or how much one can spend on their daughter's wedding. With Christmas just about a week away I've pretty much have all my shopping done and gifts wrapped already.

oldnslow Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Our credit union won't accept rolled coin , they have a change counter in the lobby for client use . Just dump in your change and it gives you a receipt to take to the clerk .

iamsuperdan Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I added a little colour to my Power Wagon, now the graphics have a bit of that retro 70s look to them. Oh, and this is what winter in Canada can look like! Minus 5 celcius, no snow inover a month, nothing forecast for at least another week or so.
