twopaws Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Sandi's sister called me after she found some models at a Barn Sale for under $5 each and sealed. She sent me a photo of the ten she picked up plus the guys name and number, I called him, he had 142 more all sealed and at the same price. So I drove to Michigan, about 5 miles from where I lived for thirty years and got them ALL.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) I'm rarely envious of anybody for any reason...but MAN, that's some score. They're mostly all kits that appeal to me. Nice one. Edited August 23, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
MADDOG Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I see some many yard/garage sales..... and I always tell myself (don't bother stopping, you never find anything). After seeing your outstanding find.... I will never assume I wont find anything again. This is just a amazing find. Even if you were not a model builder/collector... anyone would benefit from such a find. If you sold off all of that kit by kit, you would make 10 fold what you paid.
mikemodeler Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Really nice haul there! I was at a show today and based on the prices there, you could sell off some of the duplicates you have and re-coup your investment and still have a nice collection of kits.
southpier Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 great score. all I ever see is "Betty's buck-a-bag baby clothes"
bbowser Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 great score. all I ever see is "Betty's buck-a-bag baby clothes" LOL! Or 90s NASCAR kits for 10c.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 If you don't see it ASK! You never know. Nascar kits have some fine donor parts like the rear end and suspension,Some of the rollbar/cage assembly and a workable motor. At 10c a kit I'd be all over that And you guys that dread goin' shoppin' with the little lady... I go with my GF AND my 80 YO aunt to thrift stores. besides car kits which we all have more than we'll ever build you never know what you'll find you can actually use.
Wagoneer81 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Yeah, that was worth a trip across Indiana... The long way.... Great score!
disabled modeler Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Nice score!...me I only see one kit that appeals to me but still a great find. lately Id be happy to find 1 at the sales its been quite awhile since I have.
AC Norton Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I love when someone scores like this.......but not as much as if it were yours truly.......... terrific load, congrats from the ace.......... .
1930fordpickup Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 great score. all I ever see is "Betty's buck-a-bag baby clothes" LOL! Or 90s NASCAR kits for 10c. That is how it goes with me also. But I do stop more times than not.
1930fordpickup Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Yes most of us would have been all over this action. Just rechecked my stash and no one sold some of it off on me. Good to see a builder come out ahead
Danno Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Wow, way to go, Craig! Hella score. Looks like Sandi's sister is a keeper, too!
FordRodnKustom Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I dream about garage sale scores like that.....only with older kits. Good work!
unclescott58 Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Looks like nothing overly rare. But a nice haul non the less. Scott
wayne swayze Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Yeah...like Joe, I'm tired of stopping at a yard sale, only to find "Dorothy's dirty dollies...just a dime!". Only ever found 3 model kits at yard sales...build ups all...and get this...Martians built the engines, cause the heads were upside down! Guess they figured it would get better mileage.....?
DynoMight Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Most yard sales around me are just "Susie's baby clothes" and "Mom's old kitchen stuff" Yet to find one kit.
slusher Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Yard sales start at 6 am. Never found a model so I stoped checking many years ago. Great score and you had inside information..
Guest Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Never had luck at garage sales either. Occasionally at thrift stores.
