robertw Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 The Piranha is the root car of the dragster that AMT did but by the looks of the picture it's going to be reissued in its original form. as the coupe/Man from Uncle car. I think modellers will be very happy with this one, the gull wing doors can be posed open and it has a neat little engine. It can be built as the Uncle car or just a neat little sports coupe and I'm sure others will use their imagination to create some unique customs. I have an original in my stash but have always hesitated to build it so I'll certainly be buying several of them. I'll be putting a bug in my LHS owner the next time that I'm in his shop that he'd be wise to bring in a case of them. rob
Vince Nemanic Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 With the reissue of the UNCLE car, one may also re create the Piranha Race Team multi kit. Another fact is that the UNCLE car had a longer tail than the 5 or so 'production" Piranhas. There is a lot of info if you google piranha.
RancheroSteve Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Piranha (Man From UNCLE) Spy Car - that's exciting. Prices for the original issue were getting pretty insane!

RancheroSteve Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 That "Original Art Edition" of the Piranha sounds pretty enticing! I think I'll be springing for one of those.
unclescott58 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Maybe now this might be a reality..... That's the version of the Piranha(s) I would still like to see. But, I'll still buy the one coming in January. Scott
Snake45 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Maybe now this might be a reality..... MSRP would prolly be on the bad side of $50, counting the service trailer. Still less than on ePay, but how many would they sell at that price point? I'll be buying one of the "special editions," and possibly a "plain" one later.
Mark Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I could see X amount of drag team kits sold, but not many. If you can live without the box, the Piranha drag version reissue kits can still be had, as can the Fireball 500 (which contains that trailer).
jkill54 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I don't have the patience to go through the whole thread, but the drag pirana was a completely different kit. one of the best blown 392 hemi's ever. wheels and tires were also super good. wish they would reissue that kit. LOTS of great parts for retrobashing.
Force Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 The drag Pirana was out last less than 10 years ago.
TimKustom Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I have 2 Drag Piranah kits coming my way that I "Spotted" at a well known online hobbyshop for under $13 a piece. Think there might be a couple more left. Very exciited to see the UNCLE car coming back. Another grail off this list.
Snake45 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Very exciited to see the UNCLE car coming back. Another grail off this list. Me too. I have the dragster in the Snakepit already, and a couple of the Blueprinter Service Trailers. I just might take this opportunity to recreate that drag set combo for myself.
Daddyfink Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) The drag Pirana was out last less than 10 years ago. And not too hard to find at very low prices! I had a hard time getting rid of a couple at kit shows I think the awful box art of that time did not help much Edited October 5, 2014 by Daddyfink
unclescott58 Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) Okay, you guys convinced me. I went to eBay to find a Piranha drag car. The lowest price I found, on buy it now, was $19.99, plus $7.85 for shipping. Despite the price, I decided to buy it. By the way, what are the decal like with this kit? Are they similar to originals? And is body molded in clear, like early versions of the kit were? The trailer for me is no problem. I have a Fireball 500 in my collection. Though, in real life I would not use the other Piranha as a tow car. So I will not use it when it comes out, as a tow car either. Scott Edited October 5, 2014 by unclescott58

Whoopie cat was making corrected decals for it and i think they may still be available.
rasafyff Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I have the Mademoiselle L'Agent Secrete 97 reissue of the Piranha and it has a twin turbocharged Corvair engine with twin Weber side draft carbs.

Greg Myers Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 So are these, A) Better than Different from (in what way ?) the kit decals ?
Daddyfink Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 So are these, A) Better than Different from (in what way ?) the kit decals ? They have the correct original driver of the Piranha,Walt Stevens, and they just look better all the way around. Will post an image of my set with a Piranha set later
RancheroSteve Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 So are these, A) Better than Different from (in what way ?) the kit decals ? The recent re-issue has a very minimal decal sheet (just the blue stripes, no lettering or logos). You'll need the aftermarket set if you want to build a replica of the drag racer.
Daddyfink Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) Piranha decals. On the left, aftermarket decals from Whoopie Kat and on the right, the AMT issued decals.THESE ARE FOR THE DRAG CAR!!! Hopefully if AMT should re-issue it, they can fix these decals Edited October 7, 2014 by Daddyfink
Greg Myers Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 BIG difference Jesse, thank you for setting us straight.
1zebra3 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I'm so glad they're reissuing this kit. I've been looking for this for along time. Been on ebay a few times but but always end up too high.
