unclescott58 Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 (edited) Well, I no longer need stock sponsons or decals for my Kitech Airwolf helicopter (see above). Instead I bought an unopened original AMT/Ertl Airwolf. Unopen until I got it today. Now I can build a "stock" Bell 222B. And maybe build an Airwolf version from the Kitech kit, or sell it. By the way, below is what I'm hoping to build out of my AMT kit. Edited December 8, 2018 by unclescott58

Two grail kits I found at Model Land. This is why, when people give you grief for wanting to bring back obscure kits, you should ignore them. Two fun kits. I finished my Leif several years ago. And need to finish my Pilgrim Observer one of these days. I too like a lot of those old obscure kits. Mainly space related. There are more I'd love to see come back. DPNM Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 (edited) This was on my porch today. feeBay purchase, sealed. I had a want ad on the forum looking for one but no luck. I bought this for less than I would have been willing to trade away. I missed having to go to Vietnam by the skin of my teeth. It ended just as I became of age. I plan a tribute to those that served. DPNM Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 And these were on my porch today. I had an ad on here looking for at least one, but again, no trades forthcoming.
unclescott58 Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Can you say flash? I knew you could. Testor's last modified reissue of IMC's old LearJet kit. I should know better. But, I can't help myself!
unclescott58 Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 (edited) Today. A 1/48 scale V-tail doctor killer. One of my all time favorite airplanes. And has been so since I was a kid. The V tailed Bonaza has always stood out over the others, in style and grace. It looks fast. And it is fast. Next to Beechcraft's other classics, the Staggerwing and Starship, it is (IMO) the coolest airplane out there. Edited December 13, 2018 by unclescott58

Not a lot of people outside the aviation community know the old V-tail's nickname anymore. And I agree with the rest of what you say...the Starship and Staggerwing are two of the most spectacular private aircraft ever conceived.

I've got a couple underway, one as a gunship and one as a dustoff unit...and using a cast of the Lycoming turbine to power a fantasy LSR vehicle too. Have you seen the clear version of that kit?
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Got another part of the steel mill layout, the Walthers bridge-crane kit. Used to move iron ore or taconite pellets from the offload and storage areas to the blast furnace. Also got a couple Walthers heavy traveling crane kits for inside the mill. I'll probably need several more by the time it's done, as well as at least one for the locomotive service and erection buildings.
cobraman Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Hey Bill. How large do you imagine your layout being ?
unclescott58 Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 (edited) As you can see from this post, and others above, I've been on a model airplane buying and building kick recently. By no means am I giving up on cars. I'm still car crazy. In order of transportation loves, it goes: cars, trucks, fictional spacecraft, civilian/personal aircraft, trains, real spacecraft, military planes (mainly fighters), boats and ships, and finally motorcycles. So I buy a few kits of other things from time to time. In the realm of civilian/personal aircraft, I love Beechcraft's designs the best. IMO the three best looking airplanes of all time are Beech's Staggerwing, their V-tail Bonanza, and their Starship. Well, I have an AMT Stagger I'm working on right now. Added and started working on another V-tail Bonanza just this week. The only thing missing? The Starship. As of yesterday that's taken care of. To my collection, I've added an Amodel Beechcraft 2000 Starship, in 1/72 scale. This is the only styrene kit that I have ever seen available of the Starship. It comes from Poland, and it is not cheap. But, looking at reviews on line and what I found in the box I just got. It looks like it's well worth the price. The first thing I liked when I opened the box, is all of the parts come in a ziplock style, resealable bag. In that bag, the clear parts are protected in another smaller ziplock type bag. The kit has over 100 plastic parts, and four small photo etched parts. No flash can be seen on my example. It looks like a very nice high quality kit. Again, well worth the money I paid for it. Amodel makes two different variations of their Starship. The main difference being decals. I had to go for this version because of the decals used on the wingtip/rudder assembly of this particular airplane. They look like Star Trek Starfleet logos. And with my love of Star Trek I had go with it! Edited December 17, 2018 by unclescott58

Both locomotives still exist, and 4 of the original cars (which were actually heavily modified GM bus bodies). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerotrain_(GM) Catching up on past posts here that I somehow missed. The video on the Aerotrain, above, is great. I still think that it is a great looking train. I need to go to Green Bay or St. Louis someday to see the real thing.
unclescott58 Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 As I looked farther into the posts here, I guess I did see Ace's posting ☝️before. I must be getting old. Forgetting stuff. Still, it was worth another look.

The Big Boy with Duluth, Missabe & Iron Ranger markings. True, the DM&IR never ran Big Boys. But, love the Big Boys. And the DM&IR. So it was a natural fit for me. The kit built up really nice. Even though these trains do not match up well with my running N scale stuff. I liked the one I build enough to consider buying others in the series, if I bump into them at the right price.

Seems complete, though the box is pretty beat. Lysanders were used for short-field ops dropping and retrieving spies in occupied Europe during WW II. It will eventually find a home with some other 1/32 scale warbirds. Also picked up a 1/20 Seaquest Stinger, again for $1.99. It may become a futuristic LSR vehicle...or not. I really have a hankering to put together a little HO-scale train scene over the holidays. I recently got one of these, to replace one I'd built and given away a long time ago. It makes a spectacular model, and really makes one wonder: if this much detail can be incorporated into a 1/87 scale model (and this thing was tooled way before CAD) what's the problem with getting the larger scales right? By the way. Did the Sea Quest sub above ever get built. And if so, can we see it? Edited December 15, 2018 by unclescott58

Scott Colmer Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I've been looking at the Lost in Space robot for a while. Pure nostalgia. One finally came up cheap on e-bay. When it arrived, I was surprised at how small it was. Notice the dime on the box. It's just about 1/25 scale, so I can be worked into a modeling project. It's on the shelf waiting for a burst of creativity.
unclescott58 Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 The above reminded me of some pictures I found on the web a while back.
unclescott58 Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 (edited) It may not be Beech, but look what came in today's mail. Edited December 16, 2018 by unclescott58
JollySipper Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 (edited) Hey, Scott.... I have the luxury of living about a mile from our small local airport, so I get to see Cessna type planes on a regular basis. Lear jets too....... About once a month, the Osprey aircraft use it for touch-n-go's.... Edited December 16, 2018 by JollySipper

I know most things by sound and don't even look up for Cessnas, Beeches or Pipers anymore. But every now and then I hear a T-6 or Stearman--those are worth looking at! The Air Guard shoots touch and goes on our place in C-130s. They are among the QUIETEST airplanes using the place. I never hear them inside the house, and hardly ever outside--most times I will see them before I hear them.

Far enough away that the planes are still high enough to rarely grab ones attention. Several years ago I was riding with a friend, and we were going by an airport on the southwest side town (Flyingcloud, in Eden Prairie, MN). And there sat a Beech Starship! Was I surprised and excited. Not often does one get to see one of those. Sad to say, we didn't have the time to stop and get a closer look. Edited December 16, 2018 by unclescott58
unclescott58 Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 (edited) By the way. I don't know if this is right place to bring this up, or not. But, I'm looking a copy of Monogram's Cessna 180 with floats. Hopefully complete and at a reasonable price. The last time I believe Revell/Monogram offered the Cessna 180 with floats, was in 1994. So it's not an easy kit to find. Can anybody out there help me? Edited December 16, 2018 by unclescott58
