Roadrunner Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 Thanks, fellas, I appreciate it. I've decided to go ahead and strip the taillight too, as in my haste to finish it, I sort of messed it up. I like the general idea of what I was trying to achieve, just not the method.

Roadrunner Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Bummer. I started polishing the paint yesterday, and discovered a bit of a tiny fuzzball smack in the middle of the roof. That, combined with the (temporary, I hope) loss of two of my three Novus polishes, has me a bit frustrated.
Roadrunner Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 OK, a little wet sanding, some Crest toothpaste and Novus #3 have yielded some pleasant results. Not perfect by a long shot, but certainly not bad, at least by my standards. After going over with #'s 2 & 1, it should look acceptable.
horsepower Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) Just a suggestion but way back we used to polish out real show cars with a toothpaste and cornstarch mixture, it is a little bit less hazy than straight toothpaste. One of the best polishing cloths I have found is from white briefs, this was a suggestion from an optometrist, this material is safe for cleaning plastic eyeglasses and won't scratch the surface so it's just common sense that it would make an excellent polish and waxing material. Just don't let your wife catch you cutting up your clean underwear, lol. Edited March 25, 2015 by horsepower

I found my other two polishes. #2 seems to clench the deal, with #1 just giving some extra gloss, or at least that's the way it appears to me. Far from some of the fabulous paintjobs I’ve seen here, for my very first ever lacquer job, I’m pretty pleased. Still lots of polishing ahead though.

Having not finished a car model in roughly 20 years, I'm feeling a bit pressured by all the great work I see here, and a strong desire to have this car be at least attractive enough not to be an embarrassment.
