Now, I know that I have read quite a bit here and around the interweb (REALLY NEED TO CUT BACK ON "FAST AND LOUD" ) about the "quality" of some of Revell's new offerings like the deformed roof of Mustang LX and the latest of modelers buying Golf GTIs and getting Cabrio parts and vise versa, but who knew they had this "quality" 35 years ago!! I stumbled across this researching some pics for another thread, and couldn't believe my eyes!

Ummmmm.......is it just me, or is that not even close to the real car?!?!

I guess it is at least "close enough", it is the right generation at least!!

Meh... any company with a back catalog as extensive as Revell's is bound to have a few junkers. But they had weird proportions on some kits as far back as the '62-vintage '56 F-100, with it's blobby fenders and weird greenhouse.

Then there's my "favorite"- the "somehow slightly blockier than the 1:1" Jeep J10

....over the years, and presently, a few Revell kits are a quality, well engineered, builder- friendly kit,....but in general, they almost always drop the ball in areas that just baffle many model car guys. personally, in most cases, I run from anything with their name attached to it. this is usually an unpopular point of view on this forum, however it has been my opinion for over 40 years.....the ace.....

As much as the Honcho kit may be slightly different than the real thing, it would be great if they would bring it out again. It's getting difficult to find them, and the ones that are on eBay seem to be going for close to $100! I'm actually surprised they didn't release a version back in the mid 90's to tie in with the movie Twister.

Hey now, don't leave Jon Baker's GMC stepside 4x4 out of this...

Meh, close enough:

 That is as laughable as Ponch's T/A!! No one will notice it's a Chevy and not got a stepside box!!

For the time that the F100 came out, it was quite a good kit. Sure it was wrong, but at the time, they didn't have the ability to create computer models that were completely finished to perfection and then the molds made with c&c mills and super processors. However, with the tech of today, why on earth is the new Fox Coupe looking like it has a chopped top?

Especially considering it is really this car from Corvette Summer!

But honestly, as a kid, I did not have a clue! I just knew it was the same car Ponch had!

I have a unbuilt one black on the box if interested...looking for some snap or promo like kits and promos.

those skin tight uniforms always made me uncomfortable

And that has to do with the topic of Revell having a long history of being incorrect with details in kits or incorrect kits in general how???:blink::unsure:

Just want to take the time to thank Revell for a recent kit save. I have a Ferrari 458 that I maimed the taillights on. I asked for replacements explaining that it wasn't Revell's fault but my own. Even though the kit is discontinued they sent me the lights without a bill. I was almost done with the thing and put a lot of work into it and they came through. I too have had misadventures with Revell but I'm still glad they're in the game. Besides, half the time I kit bash anyway!!

Ah yes, like so many things in life, it just kinda depends on your perspective at any given moment...

I had a girlfriend whose female roommate put up a huge, sealed-in-plastic poster of a shirtless Ponch in the shower. Talk about uncomfortable... :D

I like Revell. Always have. I like pie too.

That Firebird of Ponch's is just plain ugly. What's with the combo Trans Am and Formula hood? I think Revell had better taste in releasing what they did to represent Ponch's. The kit doesn't look too bad. The real car looks really bad.

That's true, but the AMT '53 F-100 (which came out a year after the Revell '56) nailed the proportions of the 1:1. And Revell had brought out quite a few proportionally correct kits prior to that. It was possible, but there were times when they just slipped up and put out something that missed the mark.

My favorite of the bad Revell kits are the IMSA Monza/Mustang II/Sunbird that shared everything except the body. Identical chassis, engine, interior.

You are aware of the fact that the Daytona Spyder that was used in the tv-series was a replica based on a Corvette chassis right?

In that way the kit is correct I belive and I guess there is other kits out there that is correct Daytonas.

Same for the IMSA Capri's / Trans-Am Mustang and Trans-Am Camero kits. Different body styles for the Ford's. Different manufacturer for the Camero, but the same parts for the motors and chassis on all three. Keeping the bean counters happy by being lazy.

I've purchased kits from several manufacturers and some are very acceptable to me, while sometimes they mess something up. The point is...they provide us with models that we love to buy...good or not. And that puts a smile on my face!

I've got one of the Monza kits, planning on reworking it to use a Revell ZR1 kit for all the important stuff.
