  1. A successful scale model is one that can achieve the full size look. This is what you have achieved, it's a wonderful replica, full of realism. All the hard work has finally paid off. It deserves a prime spot in your 1/24 shop!
  2. Wonderful wonderful build David. You've demonstrated that great weathering can be done with brushes and sponges. Many ways to do it and your's delivers exceptional results.
  3. Just finished painting my first set for a current 250 gto project. Picture is worth a thousand words.
  4. Looks awesome Paul. Both of them actually!
  5. When I clear over color I usually get traces of "frostiness" thinking it has to do with brushing it on or perhaps some of the color pigments telegraphing through. But it always clears up in the clear polishing process. Keep in mind that my paint process is unusual. Brushed on multiple highly thinned coats of Vallejo color and Tamiya X22 with X20A thinner + Tam retarder for clear. All benign stuff and I never quite understood the process and since it polishes off...no big deal. Same process with this body. After clear I had a bit of frosty showing through. After 24 hours the phenomenon actually expanded evenly everywhere. Waited 2 more days and polished the clear with 4000 and 6000 cloths and then Tamiya fine compound. Looks good with even but not too high gloss as I like it for period race cars. I'll wait a few days to see if it remains like that... Picture 13 on this thread... good or bad?
  6. Chassis 3387 in action...on the streets. https://www.motor1.com/news/495280/ferrari-gto-driven-hard-public/
  7. That middle right is 3387 (the real one, with the bolted spoiler) restored in NART colors. It's a gray-blue type of tone. Hard to reproduce. BTW that's the car Fireball drove to 6th overall at the 62 Le mans 24 hours. Chassis 3223 which I am modeling was supposed to be the same color. No problem Gary...but you owe me one! ? PE was the way to go as replacement for cast wheels but 3D printing opens up new possibilities providing the design and execution are done well. Jason has done a wonderful job with these and the Dunlop tires are icing on the cake.
  8. Just a thought...I know these cars rode a bit high but personally I would drop it a bit and aim for a "flat" stance. May be a bit less accurate but look more like a race car should. Wonderful build and fun to follow this w.i.p.
  9. Formulating the color for this thing has been driving me nuts! Then it hit me, if all of these are supposed to be NART metallic blue, then whatever I do will be like aiming for the elephant 10 feet away? I may have missed the elephant... but I'm not starting over again.
  10. Got the Jack_Modelling wheels and tires painted. That good feeling about getting one thing completed...
  11. Looking really good. The possible steering definitely adds a lot to it. I'm no expert but the Gunze GTO body really looks the part.
  12. Very interesting. If it brushes on like Future and has good polish ability... should be formidable. Please keep us posted on the details of the polishing steps.
  13. Glad you like them Jason. 3 of us were providing lots of input to Jason and he sorted through all of it and came up with a beautiful product. I'm painting them right now and will try to post pictures soon.
  14. Thanks Mark. The kit engine was in a need of detailing and getting proper wheels made for this car is also a key upgrade. I don't plan changes to the rest of the kit. Nailing the formulation for the NART metallic blue is the battle of the day.
  15. Got this from JPGmodels and it was pricey but good quality. I also have a Fangio in driving position that I think is even better. Thank you Gary. Nice to see you back online. Your help was invaluable when I was trying to figure out the colors this car should be. Thanks again. Thanks Phil. Fun but challenging. Currently working on something easier but for sure another Pinto kit in the future.
  16. Wonderful stuff Jimmy. It is great to see out of the box, imaginative yet very realistic fictional builds such as your's. You started with a cool idea but you then "engineer" it like a real race car. I love this and will follow with great interest.
  17. So many beautifully replicated details. Shifter, instrument panel, mesh screen, license plate and turn signal blanks, quarter windows, etc are all beautifully done. You have done your research and then executed to perfection. Bravo!
  18. I did not know about The Bug. Great model and even greater story. So from now on should we call you Mr. Himmel....or perhaps Sir Daniel? All that celebrity stuff is a bit intimidating...
  19. I just apply "soot" Tamiya weathering master with the little sponge tip applicator.
  20. 0,05 or 0,5 mm? Proud member of the metric system protection society
  21. A wonderful Builld John and the photography techniques make it look even better. The color combo is uniquely beautiful and your idea to paint the wheels red is a stroke of genius. It adds up to a very realistic looking model. Something about these old Monogram kits. Simple but they nailed the look.
  22. It looks awesome. Anyone want to parallel park this thing?
  23. Looks awesome Justin. that engine looks like a beast and the chassis oozes realism. A beauty!
  24. Thanks Helmut, no kidding it is an OBB..ish build as the engine and the wheels & tires see an upgrade but the rest of the kit is excellent as it is. Thanks Justin, I also watch and learn a lot from your builds. If only I could get my hands on one of those rare Gunze 250 SWB kits. I have the AMT kit but I don't think much can be done with it... That being said, a key task I try to do early in a build is a mock up of the chassis and making sure the track, wheelbase and ride height are properly set. I did not need to make adjustments here other than lengthening the hubs and adapting them to the aftermarket wheels. I like the way she sits. Now that this is done the body can go it's separate ways to the various painting stages while I build the rest of the car on a parallel path.
  25. Thank you Ed. I am very happy with this weathering experiment. Thanks Larry Thanks Dave, happy to have broken the ice on building a resin kit Thank you Carl.
