Mattilacken Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 (edited) Got the body more or less ready for primer and many parts ready. Also as the catback exhaust and reused a muffler a friend built when he was 15 or something, it’s his old kit. Some parts was started by him back in the day. But most was still not built. OldNYJim Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I'd love to drive one of these in real life - this one is cool! I like the mods you've been making - nice work! 1
iamsuperdan Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Managed to mess up a build I've been really happy with so far. Over the past few weeks, I did my usual procedure on this one. Tamiya primer, several light coats, followed by some sanding/smoothing. Tamiya paint, several coats, let sit for a few days, then sand/smooth. Apply decals, let it sit for a week. On Saturday, I hit it with Tamiya clearcoat. My usual routine. A mist coat over the decals, let it sit for 10-15 min, then a light coat, then 10 min wait, another light coat, 10 minute wait, a slightly less light coat, 10 minute wait, then a heavier coat. Checked it last night. The cab is fine. The sleeper looks like this. It looks like the clearcoat ran and took the paint with it. Decals appear to be fine underneath. Very strange. I've never had this issue before, and I used the same products and procedure I've always used. Now trying to figure out my next course of action. Probably just repaint with red and leave the decals. Or maybe it's time to practice weathering. Ugh.
PatW Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 (edited) Well i tried! I bought a 1/35 Land Rover LWB and wanted to modify it to an SWB version, Now realising I should cut most off 'behind' the rear wheels! I cut a lot off in front of the rear wheels but none behind them! Update 21/06. Checked the rear spring hangers and cut off everything after them, now shortening the body to an SWB! atomicholiday Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 Yesterday I put the finishing touches on these Porsche wheels. 1
Dpate Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 (edited) Got the dash halfway done still got some detail painting to do round center trim, but this is what I got done so far. Looks alright. BMF chrome top and BMF matte aluminum bottom. The matte aluminum is pretty bad to work with. Edited June 23, 2023 by Dpate 3
Straightliner59 Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Looks very nice! Where'd you find that vise? It looks like it might be of some interest. You know, 'cause I need more tools!

atomicholiday Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 First real attempt at weathering. I’m not going heavy with this. Just lightly used. Think “track-day” car. This was done with Mr Weathering Color Multi Black. I’m going to let this dry for about a week and then I may add grayish brown from the same company. Then hit the whole thing with dull coat. Before After Opinions are welcome and would be appreciated!?

I also dust it in the wheels, to represent brake dust (on vehicles that are driven hard). Here are some photos of a Mack I built using pastels for weathering. I like using washes, drybrushing and pastels, pretty much, in that order! 2

PatW Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 So far today, laying up Subaru WRX decals onto a Subaru Sti bodyshell. A little modifying of the decals as the Sti is a slightly shorter wheelbase. 2

OldNYJim Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 That’s a great color!!! I’m trying out some yellow primer, for a 3D printed salt flats Beetle by Nahuel Customs: I’m going with a bright yellow topcoat, so I’m hoping this primer helps it really pop… 3
Dpate Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Well ordered dispade color from scalefinises awhile back carbon steel Pearl. Finally got around to using it along with the black base he gave me. So after using the color, instead of it looking like the first pic it turnt out like u see in all the other pics. No clear coat yet so it’ll look much better, but this car isn’t for me. I asked my girl if she liked this look a lot better than the original look (over white base, not black). In my head I’m like sigh gonna have to strip, and redo everything. But she actually said it looked good, and that I didn’t have to change it. So win win I suppose. 2

She’s the one that picked out the color because of the first picture of it over a white base. I accidentally did it over a black base, and it turnt out much darker, but thankfully she ended up liking it. I told her the same thing that it’s gonna look really good with a 2K clear coat on it. It’s certainly a unique color for a 65 impala lol, and with the black chromed out interior, and exterior it should pop. Edited July 3, 2023 by Dpate 1
