Makiing good use  of some time off. This is Revell's 1/24 Sunoco  Camaro that Ron Fellows drove in the 1996 Trans Am season.  This kit was on and off my workbench several times mostly waiting for paint to cure. The flourescent yellow is Testors 1177 Neon Yellow airbrushed over white. The blue is Mr Color #322 (70%), Mr Color #328 (30%). This was done to match a diexcast in my  collection which turned out to be a kind of mistake.  You will see why. I chose to paint most of the yellow even though it was represented as decals. The large area on the roof was sure to wrinkle and the nose had to be painted anyway.  I used a latex clear over the flourescent because it changes the color very little but takes 2 months to cure. The rest of the details are captioned under the pictures. Thanks for looking.

DSC06911.JPG.68f560189af405d8a4a242d06ef0fd2c.JPGThe chassis was very detailed for a domestic kit. I added a few touches here and there but mostly it is detail painting.

DSC06912.JPG.8d5114ff823083adc127abfecc434c5b.JPGGetting all the pieces to sit right in the interior proved to be a challenge. Not my first time doing this chassis but it was still fussy. DSC06914.JPG.e65be7f84b34f241309e1145b0515309.JPGBody is three pieces and required several  (10) small locator pins for it to sit right on the chassis. You can see three of them at the very bottom of the body.

DSC06915.JPG.07cd66e3b3d44ff1d919f920fc016724.JPGI always like this rear three quarter view. Note the chrome exhaust tips. This was cut from a radio antenna. A good source for chrome tubing of different sizes.

DSC06917.JPG.43f1d892a1737284d45a628dbeb04a30.JPGI went way out of my way to obtain this GMP 1/18 diecast of the same car. Only to discover they got the yellow all wrong. I am seriously considering masking and spraying it.

Who is this guy that keeps cranking out these fabulous road racing models?  Must be some kind of super hero.

(just kidding Rich, or then again maybe not)

I dont know ...about these cars, but what i DO know, is a FANTASTIC build when i see it!!!...man, that bugger is bright too!!!!!

Thanks for the compliment of the highest order.  These  cars were painted this way to really show up on TV.   Sunoco got their money's worth on this one.

Very well built. Great looking race car. Love the turned out front wheel.

Thank you Phil,  that was not a feature of the kit. One of my pet peeves is non-steering wheels.

Beautiful build! Have this kit but the rain-x edition in a box but no body that will be usable since its warped beyond what i deem possible to recover.  But I might get a new one (found a source).

Thank you for the compliment Anders.  I have 3 of these kits in all the liveries that were available. All of them have some warpage to some degree or another.  That is why the bodies are pinned on instead of glued.  I used some very fine steel wire and drilled through the body into the chassis then inserted the wire. The ends were bent or and clipped short. The real trick was to hold the body and chassis in place and drill both holes with a very sharp carbide drill. Good luck on yours.

Okay, that makes sens to your locators ? hard to see in the picture but here is my body from the rain-X

Anton,   dug out my Rain-X Camaro and took some pictures. Didn't realize how much I had done on this. Chassis and basic roll bars were glued together.  this allows the body pieces to be fitted.  On this build I used a .70mm drill and some .65mm wire. The wires were glued into the chassis and cut shorter. The body on mine fits very well and i will be able to slip it over these pins. On the Sunoco I used a .45mm wire which  was softer and easier to bend. I converted my sizes to metric for you. I captioned the pictures for you to get a better idea.

Overall body fit on mine was excellent. Youi can barely see the three small holes I drilled.

Close up of the pins inserted and the drill and wire i used. Body sits just above the chassis. This part of the body will be covered in black decals and these holes will not show. And it will make the assembly much better as i will not have to glue the body on.

Bottom veiw of my chassis with the side plates glued on and body slipped over the pins. Also note the steering...also drilled and pinned.  Hope all this helps.  You are an excellent modeler. I am sure you can get your existing body to fit.

Another beautiful build from your productive bench Rich.

Nice to see a car from fellow Canadian Ron, not too many of them around.

Thank you Pierre.  I have seen Ron race at Watkins Glen....he is an excellent race and I like him too.
