Motor City
Rex and Spike, I wasn't a fan of the front and rear ends on the '71 when it came out, but I didn't like the '70's front end either. They have really grown on me. Both of your cars are really sharp. I grew up in Dearborn and saw my first Mustang in December of '63 driving in my subdivision - which was four months before it was unveiled at the 1964 World's Fair. My favorite is the '69 Mach 1 and Boss 429, followed by the '65 and '66 2+2 fastback. My biology teacher was a part-time salesman at a local Ford dealer for a while, dating the owner's daughter. He had a yellow '70 Torino GT, then got a lime '71 Mach 1!  Edited June 10, 2020 by Motor City
unclescott58
Ads like this had a major impact on my love for the '71 Mustangs when they first came out. I though they were great looking cars the first time I saw them. And then Bond driving a basically an identical car in Diamonds are Forever. Frosting on the cake. I like the Mach I without the optional stripes, like seen in the ad below or the Bond movie. At the same time, I hope if Round 2 releases the Bond Mustang, I hope they give the option of the stripes on the decal sheet. I may not use them. But, I like option of using them if I wanted to. By the way, Diamonds are Forever is still one of my favorite Bond films for more than just the Mustang. In August of 1970 on a family vacation, I got to see Las Vegas for the first time. Being under age, only 12 at the time, I was too young to go in any casino other than Circus Circus. So the Bond movie the next year not only showed a cool car I loved, but the version of Vegas I was first exposed to. And influence by. With many scenes filmed at Circus Circus. How cool was that? So I really do hope Round 2 does for sure do the Bond Mustang. But, please Round 2, do it right and don't give us another MPC Boss 351 based on the '73 kit.

And it will have a correct front end on it. Not just the bumper, but the headlamp bezels/area too. Though being the sucker I am for the '71 and '72 Mach I, and a Bond fan to boot, I'm sure I'll be buying this one no matter what. And I do like the box art shown above, if nothing else. The problem is the ERTL 1971 reissue was a luke warm 1973. They kept the 1973 5mph bumper. For as long as the Torino has been in their arsenal, one would think that if a Cyclone based on it was coming out that it would have happened a long time ago. I too would like to see modern kits of the Mustang and Cyclone.

1972coronet
An all-new 1971 BOSS 351 ( 429 SCJ option ? ) with period-correct aftermarket speed equipment would be quite nice . Heck , throw-in a 1973 fascia for those whom wish to build the original Elanor !

And the Standard hood (which Eleanor had) to do that version of maybe a sprint or plain sportsroof.  The interior buckets are atrocious in the AMT and MPC offerings if one wants to represent the deluxe door panels.  The gauge cluster and dash are okay but Including a mini console for an automatic shift selector for a FMX or C6 trannyI  would be nice but I could go on and on but let’s just say the list of what could be included is petty long. With just the right hood, grille, Front bumper, side mirrors,  and decals at least a 72 sprint could be built with either Magnum 500’s or the FOMOCO hubcap and trim rings on stock steel wheels.  I know it would save builder the expense of custom decals, extra resin parts and pilfering a set of wheels front the spares box.  I don’t think that is asking for much after the builder finds a suitable engine for the kit such as the 302.  Edited August 8, 2020 by vamach1
1972coronet
The last time I had one of those (yucky) MPC 1971-1973 Mustang kits was the c.1986 reissue ( 1971 BOSS 351 ) ---- back in 1987 . I never got close to finishing it ; just a lump o' dung . I used its engines in other projects , and its wheels on another . I drove my friend's 1972 Mach 1 from Riverside to Gardena ( one end of the 91 freeway to the other end ) . It ran quite good ; lots of power from its 2Bbl Cleveland . Soon as we got to his dad's house in Gardena , the thing boiled-over , puking coolant all over the driveway ----- temp gauge didn't indicate its running hot (?!?) . My friend's dad came unglued , admonishing my friend in Japanese ! Haha ! After the harangue , his dad turned to me , bowed , then apologised --in English-- for the "show" .

Deuces ll
I bought my ex girlfriend a red '73 convertible with the Mach 1 stripe package and hood.... She told me it was impractical so I sold it and got her a blue '72 Pinto with a 4-speed... ?? The Mustang looked something like this but it had the dog dish caps and trim rings....
