1959scudetto Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) As already told before, these days are hard times for 1/24 scale modelers concerning really good (affordable) Alfa Romeo kits - apart from a few Tamiya releases: Protar (a - now defunct - Italian company !) even didn't know that the 1600 cc spider was called Giulia, it had the Giulietta body with a modified hood though (the Giulietta had a 1300 cc. engine). Protar was famous for classic motorbikes, but their later released car models all have some issues: this is no exception. (this kit has been reissued over the last decades from Revell Germany and last from Italeri) First the cover photo of the kit (with the wrong name on it), then the pictures of the model: built in 1990, sprayed from the rattle can, it is a curbside - I lowered the rear a little bit and used bare metal foil for the chrome - otherwise it is stock out-of-the-box. Pictures from 2005: Some more from 2009 with other Alfa Giulias: In 2021 I replaced the headlights which had become white over time and swapped the wheels with a Quattroruote Giulietta Coupé die-cast. I took some comparison photos with a genuine 1961 Giulietta Spider from Quattroruote's Alfa Romeo Centennial collection which is also not 100 % correct, but has much better proportions - compare the windshield (rake and contour) with the box cover photo! Hard_2_Handle_454 Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 Been wanting one, but they're expensive. They look beautiful.
sjordan2 Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Great work. I had a 1:1 '59 Giulietta Spider Veloce, and I wonder why the red model has a convertible boot -- no need for one, since the top folds entirely behind the seats over the spare tire. The blue kit is correct.
Gramps46 Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Thank for sharing the photos of your Alfas. They look super fine.

The red die-cast has better proportions, I think, but you are right, it has also its faults, f.ex. the convertible boot (I will try to remove this) 23 hours ago, Gramps46 said: Thank for sharing the photos of your Alfas. Thank you, Carl - there are so many possible factory color choices for Italian sports cars (especially in the 50's and 60's), so I try to avoid the ever-dominant red most of the time.
ATHU Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Beautiful Spiders Helmut, really love that light blue color. Excellent work!!

Modlbldr Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 (edited) Beautiful builds and I love the color choices you made. I built the Tamiya (or perhaps Gunze- Sangyo) AR Giulia Spyder a few years ago for my wife and it sits on top of our China cabinet in the dining room. It was a great little kit and loved building it. Later- Edited October 9, 2021 by Modlbldr
