Eero Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 The base kit for this build is Tamiya VW 1300 Beetle. For that 4 door conversion I had to shorten those front doors a bit. I tried to imagine as much accessories as possible. Some are like original VW parts and some not. I had also this idea, that this VW is coming from Lapland (Northern part ohf Finland), thats why those skis, suitcase and horns of reindeer. Almost all additional accessories and parts are scratch built. That Michelin man is made out of Milliput.
Modelmartin Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Beautifully done! Your detail is excellent. The craftsmanship and cleanliness are very noticable. I like it.
Guest Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 That is some awesome work! Way cool! I am assuming this is a phantom? or was there ever such a beast?
crazyjim Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Love the details, Eero, especially the ski poles holding the trunk & hood open.
Eshaver Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Hard to tell if it really wasn't a factory offering ! Excellent exicution sir - well done . Oh the Michelien man is the iceing too ! Ed Shaver
poncar Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Congratulations Eero -You've really got the true "nordic" feeling in this extremely well built, and well equipped, Beetle! So nice to see such a model today, when we are right now waiting for the next snowstorm to arrive... Pontus Nyköping, Sweden
John Goschke Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 What an amazing build! The four-door conversion looks like it came from the factory. Love all the detail and added accessories that tell a story.
Rob Hall Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Very cool...impressive conversion work, and I love the accessories.
Foxer Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Awesome looking. That guy DOES keep up with the wash and waxing. The engine is spectacular looking.
VW Dave Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I never get tired of seeing this model! The body work is top notch, and the accessories really add to the car's "story." That is some awesome work! Way cool! I am assuming this is a phantom? or was there ever such a beast? In the early 50's, the German coachwork firm Rometsch(pronounced "RAH-metch") made taxis out of Beetles:
droogie Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Using the ski poles to hold up the trunk and hood lids is a clever touch. Much classier than the seemingly obligatory toothpick prop. The entire build is superb.
Railfreak78 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 A 4 door Beetle? If there was not a pic posted I would have never believed it! This is really cool and a great color. Great conversion!!!
Chuck Most Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) I always thought Tamiya did a 4-door Beetle kit, and I've been looking for them for a while. If I'm not mistaken, that other 4-door beetle I saw was built by a Finnish modeler as well. I think a 4-door Beetle is to nutty NOT to love! Edited February 19, 2010 by Chuck Most
Zoom Zoom Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Wow, this is incredibly cool. Great idea, and fantastic execution
noname Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I saw this before somewhere. I think It's awesome.
Dragline Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 This Bug MUST be a girl. It has the ability to accesorize! Execution, craftsmanship, inventiveness. That, and what all the other guys said. AMAZING. Bob

Harry P. Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 To paraphrase Chandler Bing... Could there BE any more accessories on that car? I've never seen a 4-dr. bug before, that is too cool! Very, very nice work.
