caapa Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 (edited) The Pontiac Banshee was a styling study for a future Firebird. Ironically it didn`t been reality only a few styling elements can be seen on the 1993 Firebird . The model was built from a Revell kit. The use of some putty was necessary at the rear panel and in the interior at the complicate formed dashbord area at poor fits and gaps. Headlights and wiring/ plumbing on engine are added all are nearly invisible. What a waste of time, energy and material could say one but we know it`s a great joy to make ! robiwon Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Great job on this kit! Love the opening doors and hinges you made for it. Simple kit but a great build Congrats! I have the sister kit in my stash, the Corvette Indy show car.
Modlbldr Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Nice build of an interesting concept car. Great job opening the doors. I got to see this car at the 86 World's Fair in Vancouver. Sure got the blood flowing in my 17 year old heart at the time. I had this kit back in 89. I started it but never finished it. Not sure what ever happened to that kit. I do remember the poor fit of the dash. You made it look great. Later-
kruleworld Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 It's a good build, helluva job. this car was supposed to be used for the Knight Rider 2000 movie, but there was an issue and Pontiac pulled their support, so KR crew built their own knock off (the hideous one based on a Toyota MR-2). i believe this car also appeared in Back to the Future 2 (background future car).
rustybill1960 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Sweetness Man!! Thank You for sharing Russ
Chuck Most Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 It's a good build, helluva job. this car was supposed to be used for the Knight Rider 2000 movie, but there was an issue and Pontiac pulled their support, so KR crew built their own knock off (the hideous one based on a Toyota MR-2). i believe this car also appeared in Back to the Future 2 (background future car). That was actually a heavily modified Dodge Stealth- didn't know it was also in Back to the Future 2. Really nice job on this kit! Love the opening doors and the overall 'cleanliness' of the build.
caapa Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 I read somewhere that Sylvester Stallone bought this car but I couldn`t find any confirmation. Is this true ? So much is sure: the car in the film was NOT the concept car.
Jonathan Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 Bringing this thread back from the dead. I found the Banshee in my stash today and was thinking of building it - your work on this old kit is impressive. (Yes, I know this was nearly a decade ago!)
christian-w Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 8 years later! Tahnk you for digging that deep! Cool to see it and much better, to see the opening doors. Very nice.
Zippi Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Great job and love the red. Pics are coming up a little small on my laptop to see your great work.
carbuilder1950 Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 @caapa What a fantastically clean build !! Beautiful !! You have great building skills and talent !! Opening doors and hood, and an added engine, and it looks like it came out of the box like that. Execution is spot-on ...BRAVO!!
Oldcarfan27 Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 If Pontiac had actually made the Firebird look more like this in '93, they probably would have sold more cars and been saved by GM. Ah, what could've been. 1
