  1. my revell fairlane sunliner kit has "accurately scaled" proudly printed on the front of the box.
  2. those hand rail posts look like model ship (or train) parts, nice work no matter where they came from.
  3. this would be a lot shorter thread if a moderator removed all posts that had nothing to do with the original question...
  4. This thread looks a LOT like one that was recently locked, with regard to "expert work". Although in this case no reference was made to disenchanted visitors. To answer the OP, technically there is no responsibility by anyone to improve the hobby unless there is a contract involved that states such... "technically". Like other builders here, I will build to the level I like, and if I notice a WIP posted on this forum that looks like they like to build to a similar level and I notice discrepant detail then I will let them know. If they get all butt-hurt, then they have just lost the benefit of knowledge that may have helped them later. I would like to thank Harry for pointing out that responders here should at least try to make a response to the original post.
  5. hey, come back...I'm not done discussing this... just kidding.
  6. I could question your reading comprehension but that would be baiting the hook. I made a statement implying that the reader may agree/disagree said statement was "positive" or not. There was no criticism in the statement, good or bad. If I were to use your "criticism" then I would be forcing my assembly choices onto the builder... who knows, maybe the fictitious builder had come up with a way for the disc brakes to work from the outside of the wheel.
  7. the conversion factor is 24.5, either multiply or divide to find what your looking for. 27mm comes out to a tad over 1.1 inches
  8. for a second there I wondered what "Tamiya pants" were and why they smelled.
  9. at the risk of sounding argumentative, labeling a forum as elitist sounds like name calling to me. I personally have not observed what I perceive to be "elitist" behavior but then I don't cruise through all of the threads here and it seems that I joined the forum after a previous bout of member drama. Since I don't know or have access to Jantrix' club members I have no good way to address their issues (whether they were ignored or mistreated). This forum actually still has more drama than the computer forum I frequent (and they DO have a few elitists) but all of the elitists there will still help anyone that asks for help (unless someone starts calling them "elitist"). I guess the point I am trying to make is that this forum will still attract new members because there will always be someone interested in seeing other builders work in order to get ideas or learn how some aspect was accomplished. The flip side of that is that there will always be someone who feels mistreated or persecuted no matter how tactfully they are treated. This thread was a powder keg to start with but we don't actually have to blow up.
  10. 239 years...
  11. you guys really make it difficult to stop posting in this thread. can you try to get away from the name calling and discus this rationally?
  12. oh darn, ya brought out the five year-old in me... TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE!!!!! neener, neener... now I'm really done in this thread, buh-bye
  13. Nope, not playing this game anymore. why bother to post in the forum if you don't want feedback, just put your pictures up in fotki and motor on. got nothing more to say in this thread.
  14. so...the following would be a "positive" statement...? "I really like how you have attached the disc brakes to the outer side of the wheels, it brings a whole new aspect to the mechanical functions of the braking system." I realize that many people "build for fun" but maybe the person that you "fail to educate" with information about how cars work in real life may not receive the one bit of data that sets them on the course to be the next Carroll Shelby. Here is a little reminder, the title of the forum is "Model Cars Magazine Forum", anyone care to discuss what the term "model car" means to them. I usually think a model car is a representation of a 1:1 vehicle with most of the 1:1 vehicles needing to be operable and sometimes roadworthy. I don't attack builders but I DO make suggestions/comments on things that could be done, that are more in line with real vehicles. If it's a subject I don't appreciate, I move on without feeling the need to say "I don't really like that thing.".
  15. those chipmunks are going to murder all those people in a spectacular display of guts and gore... just sayin...
  16. sounds like it goes together better than a Pocher.
  17. ...but it keeps moving every time I hit it...
  18. well, the Elvis-on-a-Harley-mobile funeral home didn't go over too well so they painted it white.
  19. the world of "micro cars" is fascinating, I had fun looking at all the other ones after submitting my answer.
  20. gee... how did you work up the gumption to post about how you don't post?
  21. did they run PCV valve hose to the valve covers on these engines?
  22. yup, that is "painted on". A real good painter would have made it pull away from a fender when damage occurs...
  23. "What we have here is FAILURE to communicate." Regardless of what was posted about the Charger, I doubt Harry will vary much from his response regarding posting and photos. If someone responds negatively about a build then that is an opinion and is worth exactly what you paid for it...which means it's worth exactly nothing. Everyone that reads these forums will not always see things the same way as everyone else and will NOT process what was typed in the same manner and absolutely will NOT always know what is considered to be courteous (and may be posting while drunk). Rather than getting "butt-hurt" about a comment maybe a response like this could be crafted... " I see that you think my chrome trim sux, can you tell me in what way it sux and how I might improve on my next build?" (or you can get all whiney and after a while people will quit commenting on your posts)
  24. this one goes UNDER mud puddles.
