Loosen the lid on Testors enamel square bottles.
customline replied to R. Thorne's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Yup. I do this too! It only took me 55 years to learn to do it ? -
I built this kit maybe 12-15 years ago and it's a well detailed kit but I had big trouble on final assembly in the windshield/dash area. Trial-fit that area before paint in case you need to make any mods.

John, if you don't mind me asking, what are you using for spray equipment? ?
-
That rub-through looks like a touch-up job from what I see in the photo. I would try it, John. Can't hurt.

Another challenging build of a Poncho ragtop. I love it. But this one has a childhood memory for me. I'm following. School is in session.

Revell '29 Roadster, Late '50s Style
customline replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm totally digging this. This roadster is a perfect period piece....And yeah, I read all of Felsen's books that i could find in my middle school library. I think it's pathological ?. -
Poverty caps. I like that. ☺️

I'm a big fan of metallic blues, JR, and this is a really nice one. Party on!

And I would like to add "pay close attention to glass- the windshield / dash fit-up ! ?

MMVA October 29th show report (several photos)
customline replied to Roadrunner's topic in Contests and Shows
I went to the TAMS thing in Norfolk, VA on the 21st. It was the first time I had attended one of these. I wanted to see what was what and it was a fairly small venue, a VFW hall. I was able, within the first 15 minutes, to buy 2 kits I have been trying to get for a few years. I got a sealed Revell 48 Ford coupe special edition kit( police car) and the Revell Tasca Thunderbolt, also sealed. $15 and $20, respectively. I can't tell you how happy I was driving home, snickering to myself and driving 20 mph over the speed limit all the way ?. -
I really like the idea of dry nitrogen, it's extremely clean stuff. I used it almost daily as an HVAC tech but lugging that cylinder would wear me out as I reached my senior years ?. It's a great way to go and you don't need a moisture trap but I would purge a bit before a paint job if the hose had been open to the air. Be extremely careful handling anything with that much pressure and never open the bottle with the regulator turned in at all. You can blow the diaphragm....and turn it in very slowly when you regulate. You probably know this, but for anyone else considering this, be aware of the safety implications of handling pressurized cylinders.

Nice stuff, Kevin. Did you find any kits you were after? -
Coming along really nice, John. Interiors from this era give us plenty to do to detail them. That's a big part of the fun. With the black exterior, your interior will stand out beautifully. That's a real fine 409!
-
Man..... it's hard to keep up with you, John! Wicked nice black finish, great interior scheme. Keeping it stock? These Impalas have really nice wheel covers and beg for fender skirts and dual aerials on the rear fenders.

Thanks, Dave, it's the only way to get a decent polish-out. It's a street custom after all. I figure it's a given that this sort of 1:1 would have solenoid door latches and shaving the big badges is common. The color would also be normal for a street custom too. I had to leave the side trim because it's integral to the whole design. I'm planning a few totally stock builds and the paint will necessarily suffer around the handles and such but that's just the way it is. I'm going to try a few "box stock" builds according to local contest rules for a gig next year.....maybe. I attended one this morning and came away with two kits I've been chasing for years; the Tasca T-Bolt ($20) and the Revell '48 Ford coupe ($15)....I'm a happy camper. Prices on ebay for these two are prohibitive when the shipping is added. I did not see one Revell chopped '49 Merc kit but I got there a half hour late. ? But what I did see was a whole bunch of kits that Ollie's has been selling ?. I didn't stay for all the contest stuff because my back gave up on me. I wish I could have, there were lots of quality builds on the tables. Sorry, didn't mean to run on......

Thanks, friend...I learned my lesson with flock, Steve. I rushed the final on this and I think it would look better black, like the dash. Too late now. Trying to make room in my workspace and other stuff around here making me crazy. Might be a little A.D.D., I dunno.
-
Wow! Great shade of purple! Love it!
-
Yeah, I shoulda painted the package shelf black......?.

This is the final on this one. It turned out better than I was anticipating. It's the paint. It's always the paint. As I write this, Amazon is breathlessly rushing my new IWATA ECLIPSE to me and they tell ne it will be arriving on Monday. I hope I can get two more bodies painted before it gets cold here in southeastern Virginia. My two door Dodge Magnum and my '58 Belvedere downgrade to a Savoy are ready to shoot (and have been for months now). Gotta get 'em done. BTW, the next time I do a rear antenna, remind me to run the '39 Ford tail light across the sanding block a few times to flatten out the bottom.. and a big thanks to Mr. G for the info on the hypodermic tubing.. Thanks for hanging!

I got curious and did a search to find out just how much C-C sponsored auto racing and I was taken aback by what I found. Instead of covering that, they do this (scratching head) ?
-
Yup. The windshield/dash/interior door panels issue is such a common problem it's one of the first things I look for now. Gotta catch it early and make the mods while it's easy. Looks great, John, all the way around!
-
I would like to add to this by saying hot rod sedans and phaetons, in my opinion, look better with the fenders on them. But roadsters and coupes seem to be more traditional without. That's my two pennies. ?. Oh, and colors A and B1...absolutely!
