  1. Candy is difficult if you aren't very consistent in overlapping strokes. It's hard to get an even look. Practice a bit if you go candy. Otherwise, the bright aqua metallic for a street rod and if it's a drag car I like yellow or orange. That's just the rut I'm in, though. Sublime green worked for me once. Please forgive the intrusion ☺️
  2. Yeah, TJ, I think it's the right thing to do. It seems like nearly every photo of one of these 'birds has the tonneau in place. It's why it's such a stand-out classic.
  3. All foil done. Still have Molotow work and interior work to do, glass, some other stuff....gettin' there. ? Thanks for stopping in.
  4. All foiled up. This one is headed for final assembly and all the little things like radiator hoses and mirrors and the like. I can't decide how this one will sit in the display case. Lots of options. Oh, and the hood needs some time for gas-out and then polishing. Thanks for tuning in ?.
  5. To move my excessive amount of projects forward a few inches, I decided to not re-coat the body, polish it, and do a very minor touch-up. The hood was a bit worse so I did re-coat that. So now it's time for my favorite operation, next to using a razor saw; applying BMF. I spent all last night foiling the Nova wagon so I just did a little joy-pop on this one. And then ......the voices..... Cool? Not cool?....OK, just kidding ?
  6. Thanks for your interest, John but I'm calling it "good enough" and trying to get it off the bench. I have too many going right now and I'm not totally happy with it anyway. It lost its fun and I just want to move on to something I like more. I don't want to loose the weather like I did last year. Got too much paint to do. This one seemed totally dry so I did a little quick polish with the fine scratch remover.. The fender with the orange peel won't survive a micro polish without going through it and I don't want to paint it again like the '62 'Bird and I don't want it back in the box. When I applied foil ( the older thick, sticky "new improved " BMF) I couldn't get the overage off after the cut. The adhesive apparently ate into the paint and while trying to remove the extra foil, subsequently messed up the paint at the bottom of the left side trim. This one just won't be one of my good ones. ?
  7. Thanks, gents, I put a little foil down tonight. Thanks for looking.
  8. Thanks, Carl....and you should see 'em now! Well, they are finished a bit more now but there's still some interior work to be done. Today was dry and I got a little painting done. The first set is outside in the full sun shortly after painting. A quick mock-up follows with LED work lighting. And guess what I forgot to paint....? The paint is Testor's Extreme Lacquer straight from the can using a pistol grip attachment which is the only way I can use those spray cans. Too hard to push the valve for some reason. Anyway, despite the breeze, I got lucky ?. . And the mock-up...it dried very fast and I expect to do a little foiling this afternoon. Stay tuned ? I gotta order up some PE hood pins now. Thanks for looking! What color glass? Hmmmm.....
  9. Great looking tri-five, John. The '56 is my favorite of them.
  10. Thanks, Justin, I know it was a mid-year change on the big block. I have the convertible kit going on. I gave it a small block- somebody stole the 409 out of it. ?.
  11. Just curious here....what engine was originally in the Impala kit?
  12. The 7 litre Ford Galaxy. A very desirable find in the 1:1 world. Not too shabby at 1:25th either. This looks like fun. ?
  13. Maybe those terminals are a tad out of scale? I dunno, ?
  14. As you may already know, the interior tub was cut up and it's only purpose now is to act as a template to locate the handles and arm rests. I whipped up a couple of interior panels from some Plastruct "tread plate" which, inadvertently, has a diamond tuft look on the back side. The look is akin to cheap, peel-and-stick-like upholstery material. I suppose I could add buttons. ? The armrests are Evergreen strip carved out and laminated then shaped by sanding. The seats are from the '66 T-Bird kit. I built a simple base from evergreen to get them to a proper height for driving. The sides of the seats look "uncomfortable " so they will be modified to look more practical and to provide access to the armrests. Also,, I'm not happy with the roll bars I built so that's a future do-over. ? Thanks for checking back.
  15. I think Steve needs a nice vacation after this one's finished. Spec-freaking-tacular! ?
  16. This is looking really great, JR. Youre almost home. ?.
  17. A "Resto-Rod"? Color is appropriate. This kit has some nice choices for suspension, engine , wheels, etc. It's one of their best. I'm following ?
  18. Hey, TJ, are you anywhere near that Statesville show coming up on the 30th?
  19. I remember learning about toothpaste to polish paint in Car Model way back when. They instructed you to follow with corn starch and that worked pretty well. ?
  20. You got my interest....
  21. GOOD LUCK, GERALD!..... Really though, this looks like pure escape-ism. The 1:1 was pure escape-ism. We used to go to the indoor shows to see the weird creations like this. They were used to attract the crowd. It worked. But I want to see this. I'm following ?
  22. Thank you for keeping the dream alive ?
  23. I thought it was a little Fairlane-is but yeah, it's a little Buicky. It was my first impulse but after it was too late, I wished I had not filled the handle depressions. I could have run the trim straight over them and had a handle like a banana-bird. Thanks for your interest, John.
  24. Update: first primer coat shows expected nicks and scratches. Painted chassis/floor pan and detailed. More detail painting ahead. Need to formulate an interior plan. Thanks for checking in. Hood clearance is very tight. Not much to do here but I may add fuel rails, paint some details Kit is pretty good on details. Gotta do something with molded-in trademarks. This is the winner of the grille contest.
  25. YEAHHHHHHHH MAAAAAAAAN!!!!. Now I see the color. Beauty! Our RH went down to 45% this afternoon so I got some paint done too. ?. Nice work, TJ. ! That's going to polish up nice. Your secret parts holding technique is a lot like mine ☺️
