Shell Ferrari commercial
935k3 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love that commercial but every time I see it I think why don't we get good automotive ads like this. I have seen allot of good ones out of Europe. Most of our car commercials are pretty bad. This is one of the better ones we have gotten http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1EoNaZpPzI. I think allot of us can relate to it and it shows if you make a great car with a great name you do not have to say allot in your ads. -
This my next build. It's pretty basic curb side but it is a car I really like and I will do the best I can with what's there. Painted in Krylon White(the old Acrylic Lacquer) and TS-49 Bright Red. I have the #6 blue and white version built already so they will make a nice pair.

Just got this in the mail today from MSHobbies. Tamiya's re-issued Mclaren M8A in 1/18 scale. Let me take a moment to praise MSHobbies, they are the best mail order company I have ever dealt with. They carry kits, photo etched, all types of detail parts and decals. I always check them first when I need something.

Fallen Hero coming home

God Bless all our veterans and thanks for honoring them. As for the so called church the best thing that can happen is that no news agency national or local give them any more attention. -
Airbrushing Basics With Doctor Cranky
935k3 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks Doc for the videos, they are fun to watch. I have allot of experience but I still enjoy watching other's techniques. -
Decal set is used under the decal to prep the model surface. Solvent is applied on top of the decal to get it to conform and lay down. Be careful with the solvents they may be too strong for the decals you are using. The strongest solvent is Champ Decal solvent then Solvaset then Microsol brand. All are too strong for Tamiya kit decals. I use a hot damp cloth to make them lay down and sometimes a hair dryer on low and moving.

Nicely done. Is that the Provence Moulage kit? It looks like their tires.

I use bamboo skewers(like the ones below) sold in grocery stores. there about $2.00 a pack. I cut them in half and get two out of every one.
-
Still looks very good. This kit is still my all time favorite plastic kit ever made. I have on old build and a new one to build.

Nice build. This car is so cool, it's a shame it never got to race.

ALMS...lost another one
935k3 replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nick if you go to this link you will see that the races are on ABC or ESPN2 although they are shortened an delayed. ALMS ScheduleI hope NASCAR fans understand why we hate NASCAR so much. Their greed will do them in someday. -
It appears this new F1 car, the HRT F111 needs you on it's side.

Decals are on. Future and some wax next. I had to make the Marlboro on rear wing because the Studio 27 one was too big. It's 94% of the original size.
-
Solvaset and Microscale's MicroSol are both way to strong for Tamiya's decals. I use a hot damp cloth pressed over decals instead of solvents. It sets decals instantly without wrinkles. Small areas can be done with a hot damp Q-Tip.
-
i forgot about those because I don't use them. You are right, basically it will strip any waterbased acrylic. Although it does not attack Floqil's Poly S fast enough and can be used if done lightly and quicky.
-
The only paint that is affected by ammonia is Tamiya's water based Acrylics in the jar. You can buy Future at any grocery store or Walmart in the isle where household cleaners are. It is now known as "Pledge with a Future Shine" Click this link to learn all it's uses. Future

The best thing to do with decals that will not stick is to use a Q-Tip or paintbrush and apply Future either to the back of the decal or on the area where it is placed. Any excess can be cleaned with a Q-tip soaked in Ammonia or Windex. It's better than white glues because it's thinner. It also helps with the silvering effect when placing decals over flat paints such as seat decals on a race car. For tires I usually mount them on the rim then apply Future with a Q-Tip to the entire sidewall. Then apply the decal then I brush on a coat or two of Poly S Flat clear to seal them.

Personally I think Ford should be flattered. Ferrari is a a very special car company and Ford is just Ford.

The battle goes on. Ford is suing Ferrari for naming their new F1 car the F150. It was so named to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. Story at this link F150

Does anybody know af a source for this part in a Badger 175 Crescendo. You can buy the one for the Badger 150/200 anywhere but I have never seen one in a hobby shop and they cannot seem to order them. I got some once from Dixie Art but they charged 10 bucks to ship a 3 dollar part. I know Badger will replace them but they are very ease to replace yourself if you can get the parts

Yes both the new Audi R18 and the Pug are still diesel engines. Also note that both have copied the Acura LMP car and gone to all four tires being the same size front and rear. I am sure the sponsors like the new dorsal fin. Rumors are abundant that Porsche will soon return to LMP1 and Audi is going to F1.
-
They are still diesels. The engines have been downsized(by rule) to a 3.7L V8 with twin turbos.
-
Some pics of this years Peugeot LMP1 car. These cars make NASCAR's GrandAm cars look like ugly toys. The fins are mandatory this year to keep cars from launching as the Pug 908 did a few years ago at Lemans Test day.

Here is a few pics of the finished chassis and painted body.
