Rubbed out the body on this AMT kit and it had some orange peel. Must have been the day that the humidity didn't get below 50%. But the last two days have been good with about 30% humidity so the paint has turned out much better. I think I got most of the orange peel on this one and I am working on painting the other parts now, Interior will be black and this one will be box stock. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl and Rex! I appreciate your comments! Painted the silver on the body and hood and added a coat of clear. I don't think I'll have to rub this out much. Thanks for looking!

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your comments! tic is the air cleaner which is as narrow as the base to the right. I am working through the parts in this kit but its a chore. The plastic, even for the body, is translucent and has lots of flash. The chrome has some flash as well. I'll see if I can find an engine to fit and some wheels. Here are some photos of the parts trees. Thanks for looking. Underneath the blob of chromed plastic the air cleaner which is as narrow as the base of it to the right. This is suppose to be the steering column which looks much different from the instructions. Guess I'll be searching the parts box for a column.

Your wagon is looking good, Bob! I like the chrome trim and I like the Gunmetal finish! ??

Greg, you do such nice work on items that I often just ignore! Great work so far on this one! ??

This is the Revell 007 kit that I am going to convert to a performance Mach 1. The chrome tree had the hood locks still on it so I have them and have drilled holes in the hood using the underside outline of where they go to drill it out. I found a rear spoiler for it in the parts box and I made a front air dam for it out of sheet plastic. I'll use the silver decals from the Revell Mustang Boss 351 that I didn't use when I built the Boss with black decals. I'll also use silver pinstripes and Mach 1 markings from the AMT kit that I bought and am building in black and white. So I think I have everything covered to build it this way. I painted the body Dupli-Color Bahama Blue Metallic and the related body parts have been painted as well with black and Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. Tomorrow, I'll paint the body and hood with the Aluminum on the rocker panels and the center of the hood. Then I clear it and rub it out the following day. So now I will have several bodies painted and I also have to paint the related parts to have several kits backed up for when the weather starts to turn. Maybe a little early but I want to paint now while the weather is nice here. Thanks for looking! ?

This is the AMT kit that I bought last week at Hobby Lobby. I wanted to do a performance Mach 1 instead of the 007 car and I have the Revell 007 kit so i thought I might find some pieces in this kit to use on that kit. Unfortunately, this kit does not have the front air dam or hood locks. The rear spoiler also is suspect as the supports are really too thin to put pins in. So the only thing that will help is the decal sheet which has the pinstripes and Mach 1 markings. So I am going to build this one without the aforementioned pieces with the black decals. I'll open another WIP for the Revell kit using some pieces that I have found in my parts box, and the decals from a Boss Mustang that I recently built. I'll use the silver decals from that Boss Mustang sheet and the silver pinstripes and Mach 1 markings from this kit. That way, I can build both kits. I already have built the AMT 007 car a few months ago so I don't want to do that one again. It will be hard enough to build this AMT kit as there is a lot of flash, bent parts (the rear taillight panel) and severe injector pin marks in the interior. Oh, and as Rex Turner, AKA, vamach1, let me know, there shouldn't be any vents in the hood on 71-73 Mach 1s. But I already have this one painted so they are going to stay. Here are some photos of the painted body and I will start rubbing it out tomorrow. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Stuart and Mathias! I appreciate your comments! Stuart, if you're going to get a 40 Ford kit, this Lindberg kit is not a good one to start with. The AMT is alright but the one I like is the Monogram 40 Ford Standard Coupe. its a great kit. Of coarse, any re-issues would be made by Revell but may be labeled Monogram.

This is a Lindberg kit that I purchased with the L-700 truck at WalMart years ago. So far, I have prepped the body, painted it Dupli-Color Royal Blue, rubbed it out, and foiled it. I replaced the center divider in the windshield after removing a lot of flash and I consider it a minor miracle that this one has come out pretty nicely. I have looked at the other parts and I have a lot of work cut out for me removing flash, etc, I think I will look for another engine as this one only has a standard flathead V-8. I also want to look for some big and littles to fit under it. So it may take a couple of days to figure all this out. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Rex! I didn't notice that! But its too late for the AMT kit as I already have it painted. The Revell kit is much better and does not have the vents in the hood. I only bought the AMT kit because I thought I could use some parts for the Revell 007 kit to convert it to a performance Mach 1. But the AMT kit doesn't have a front air dam, hood locks, and the rear spoiler has poor supports that i doubt if I can pin. So I am leaving all of that off of the AMT kit and I found or made parts for the Revell kit to convert it. I only need the pinstripe and Mach i decals from the AMT kit and I can use the silver side stripes from the Boss kit that I already built on the Revell kit. I am starting WIPs on these and the 40 Ford above because this one is getting too cluttered with these other kits. Thanks for your info and thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl and David! I appreciate your comments! Well, I am still on my quest to paint a few bodies to store for when the weather gets bad. I bought this AMT 71 Mustang Mach 1 a few days ago and thought I would build it since it has the decals. I built the AMT 007 71 Mach 1 and bought the Revell 007 Mach 1 and thought I would build it as a performance 71 Mach 1. But there are a few parts missing in that kit as well as the decals. Then I remembered the review article in Model Car Magazine that indicated that the parts missing were the hood locks, rear spoiler, front air dam and the decals. Well, I looked at the Revell kit again and saw that the hood locks are still included on the chrome tree although not used in the 007 kit. Then I found a rear spoiler and an air cleaner that should work. I still have the silver decals from the Boss 351 that I built for the stripes and I can use the silver pin stripes and Mach I decals in the AMT kit while painting the hood silver. I still haven't found the perfect front air dam or "chin whiskers", if you prefer, but I have something that will substitute possibly. So I have a plan! paint the AMT kit white and use the black decals and paint the hood center and bottom trim black. By the way, the rear panel of the AMT kit is severely warped. I straightened it out with some hot water but it still isn't perfect. Then, I'll paint the Revell kit Light blue Metallic with the silver decals from the Boss 351 kit and the AMT kit with the hood painted silver in the center. I'll use these additional parts and I'll have a performance 71 Mach 1 instead of a 007 movie car. Oh, and I finished rubbing out the 40 Ford. I'll get back to the Belvedere in a bit. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, David! I appreciate your comment! I like all the Moebius kits too. The only weaknesses are the decals and they never seem to leave enough space or have any detail for the spark plugs. Not much done today. Painted all the other parts for the Plymouth and I'm still rubbing out the 40 Ford.
-
I rubbed out the Belvedere and got it foiled. Now I just have to paint all the other parts. The 40 Ford is a different story. I noticed while I was rubbing it out that there were half circle thingys on the cowl. I can't imagine injector pin marks there and I missed them while prepping the body. There was also a flare of plastic on the lip of the hood that needed to be sanded out. So this Lindberg body was a mess out of the box. I sanded everything out and repainted it. So tomorrow I'll rub it out and hopefully can move on. I'll also try to get some more bodies painted while the weather here is good. Thanks for looking! ?

I am starting this Moebius kit by first painting the body and related parts. I used a dark gray primer under the Dupli=Color Bright Red for the body in order to get a darker red that might be considered Medium Red or even stretch to Ruby Red. In any event, I think it looks pretty good so I'll rub it out tomorrow. In the meantime, since the weather is nice here, I am going to get some more bodies painted. Here's one that needed a lot of prep work on the body - lots of flash and a nasty mold line on the both sides of the trunk, along the trim line tapering off at the rear of the trunk. Its a WalMart "Blue Light Special" from years ago with the Dodge L-700 truck and trailer. I'll paint it with my new favorite color tomorrow, Dupli-Color Royal Blue. I need to get some bodies painted while the weather is good to get ready for winter. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Dennis and Ken! I appreciate your comments! ? -
This was supposed to be a SCCA race car driven by Hal Keck but the decals screwed up so I just built it as a street driver. The color is Dupli-Color Royal Blue, interior satin black, Tonneau cover is Krylon Satin Almond and the steering wheel is some mixture from a while back that I don't remember. I dullcoted the wheels and side pipes and blackwashed both. The engine (sorry, I forgot engine shots) is wires and a scratched coil. I used a chrome pen on the emblems because no decals. The hood needs a prop to view the engine. Thanks for looking! ?

Well, I was going to attempt the rest of the decals but the one that I had put on the hood started cracking and flaking off. So I removed it and that will be it for the decals. I guess I'll have to buy the new re-issue and build it. I understand that the decals are much better in that kit. I couldn't use the front and rear logo decals as they were too big and there were no decals for the side badges that were not sponsor decals. I just used a chrome pen on these emblems and called it good. Once I had the interior in place, I realized that I had to re-work the mounting of the dash because it was too deep into the body. So I took out the interior and moved the dash back so that it is glued to the most anterior end of the interior wall. Then I could get the steering wheel in place without it looking like a knuckle-buster. I also mocked up the body on the frame with the wheels on the frame and noticed that the front end sat high without the radiator in place. The radiator needs to tuck into the nose to keep the body lined up. I installed the radiator and ditched the lower radiator hose whose connection could only have been accomplished by a double-jointed person. And it didn't make sense anyway since there is not top hose and you can see neither of them hoodside once everything is in place. This one has been completed as a street driver. I used the standard windshield and frame, wing windows, interior mirror on the dash, driver side mirror and I left the jack points, front and back, off. Maybe I can find some nice bumperettes to fill the mounting holes in the body. There are none in the kit. I dullcoted wheels and exhaust side pipes and blackwashed both. The hood needs a prop to see the engine. One of the dash decals flew away and another one shriveled up. Some may say the it looks like the body is resting on the rear tires and I wouldn't disagree. But there isn't any way to fix it unless I would go to a smaller wheel or tire or both. The car sits level and the rear of the frame tucks in the body right where it's supposed to. Here are a few pics. Final photos are in the "Under Glass" section. Thanks for looking! ? -
Thanks, Brian! I appreciate your comment! I don't have decals yet but am anxious to finish the black one. ?

Thanks, Mike! I appreciate your comment! Made some progress last night and early this morning. Finished the engine and it is now installed in the chassis. I added plug wires and a coil. I thought I would have an issue withs the exhaust headers that were two-piece assemblies without positive pin placements. But they glued on nicely. This afternoon is a different result. I thought the decals looked good and I started with the hood stripe but it disintegrated into a bunch of pieces. I looked at the decals and found that they were dated 2004. uh-oh! So I sprayed them with a coat of clear lacquer, which I should have done in the first place. Now I used the alternate decal for the 1975 car on the hood. I can either complete the decaling for the 1965 car using this one decal for the other car, but the hood will not have a number on it as the sides and the trunk will. I don't know if that is against the racing rules and I don't even know what association this car raced in. I think it might be the SCCA, so I guess I need to do some research. Or I could just build this one as a hot rod with the one decal that I put on the hood. Let me know what you think and if anyone has info on these racers, let me know. Thanks! ? -

Had a great day today painting. Temp in the 80s, humidity at 40%. I stopped at 1 coat of clear because I can't do any better than this. I could almost get away with not rubbing this one out. All the other pieces are also painted so now I can wire the engine and get a lot of assembly started. I assembled the entire chassis before paint and painted it with a dark primer. I am going to leave it like that and detail a few parts, like springs, with a brush. I'll rub out the body tomorrow. Thanks for looking! ? -
I haven't ever built a Shelby Cobra so I thought I would give it a try. This is the same Revell kit that has recently been re-issued but with different decals and box art, I think. I bought this kit at the last model contest and vendor show. The color is suppose to be Guardsman's Blue but I bought a can of Dupli-Color Royal Blue which will be close enough for me. I have sanded out the mold lines that run the top of both fenders for the length of the model and even under the headlight buckets and washed the body. I have also sorted all the other parts into piles for painting, either black or aluminum for the most part. Some chrome parts are in the purple pond. So tomorrow I should be able to get started painting! Thanks for looking! ?
