Thanks, Anthony, Greg and Bob! I appreciate your comments! Fortunately, we survived Hurricane Beryl but it was rough weather most of the day. We're running on generator power still and I don't know when the power will be restored. But I'm still working on this model to pass the time. I did have a chance to paint the top and the running boards yesterday before the storm and today I have been rubbing it out and adding the chrome foil on the hood, grill and windshield trim. Everything is done on the body and I think it will all line up well once it is glued down. I think I will use the engine from the 60 Ford truck I just finished as it is a three carb set-up and its small lengthwise so I think it will fit. The top didn't come out exactly the color I was looking for. I guess the brown over blue didn't work so well so I guess I just say its sun faded. I am also toying with the idea of leaving the rumble seat closed and not putting a handle on it. What do y'all think? Thanks for looking! ?

I bought this kit about 34 years ago. At least the box says it was manufactured in 1990 and the price was $7.99. So I dug it out of the closet and did a quick search on e-bay and its going for a low of $20 to a high of $50. So why not just go ahead and build it! I decided I would glue the top on the body first. But the top is not as wide as the bottom body. So I decided to glue one side on, wait for the glue to dry and then glue the other side on. Wrong! What I should have done is clamp the bottom of the body to compress it so that I could glue both sides at the same time. So last night I had a real plastic and glue mess on my hands. If you would have told me last night that I would have the result in the last two photos, I wouldn't have believed it. So this morning I had my work cut out for me. I sanded, added plastic strip, putty and sanded some more. Putty and sand, putty and sand. So I finally got the panel lines and door lines straight and the center kinda rolled section on the doors and side window looks smooth and rounded enough. So since the remnants of Berle (sp?) are suppose to dump a lot of rain on us over the next couple of days, I quickly gave all the body parts a coat of primer, rubbed the body out some more, and then painted Tamiya Brilliant Blue on all the body parts and followed with 2 coats of Krylon clear lacquer. After a couple of hours, I started rubbing out the fender unit and the hood. I haven't started rubbing out the body yet as it was the last painted. So I will have plenty to do while its raining over the next couple of days. I need to find another engine, wheels and tires, brush paint the running boards, rub out the body, etc, Thanks for looking! ?

My grandsons bought this retooled AMT kit for me for Father's Day. They did a good job! I painted it Dupli-Color Dark Toreador Metallic and Pure White. The Pure White is not really white as it has some yellow in it. But both look good on this truck. I also added a 240 straight six from VCG Resins which looks very good to me. I added plug wires. The kit also includes a trailer which builds up very well. So now that I have a trailer its time to go racing! Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! Finished the truck and the trailer is coming along right behind it. I wanted to post this as I think the VCG Resins Ford 240 6 cyl. really sets this one apart, IMO. I had to remove the wiper motor and I can replace it but wiper motors are at a premium around here. Now that's a real truck! I fixed the front bumper since I took these photos as it was a little crooked. Thanks for looking! ? -
1960 Ford F-100 Pickup

I worked with Josh Reese of VCG Resins via e-mail to identify a few pieces I wasn't completely sure about and he sent me photos of the parts I didn't recognize and how they went on the engine. So, with a little help, I painted this 6 cyl. in the colors for 1960 - Black, red, and red with some silver and white for certain parts. I assembled with the help from Josh and here it is! I added some plug wires. Done! Now it should mount in the frame as I have added the square block for the motor mounts. Now all I have to do is bend some radiator hose for the tailpipe connection and paint it silver and also create a top hose for the radiator. Thanks for looking! ? -

Thanks, Carl and Steve! I appreciate your comments! There was an issue with the length of the motor fitting into the engine bay but I solved it. I removed the radiator core in the center of the radiator support. I then cut a thin piece of sheet styrene, painted it black and then glued the radiator face to it. The grill/headlight assembly still fits, the fender receivers for the pins in the chassis are still there and the engine, transmission, fan belt and fan still fit lengthwise with the valve cover in place. Its not a dessert radiator but a radiator is still in place! I didn't need to hack up the firewall but I did have to cut the chassis a little deeper for the transmission. Now all I have to do is add a couple of 3/8" lengths of square rod to fit under the motor mounts. They won't actually support the engine as the center piece is still there for the metal axle. I am not concerned how it will look from underneath because this is a one piece chassis with everything molded in, including two tailpipes. So I'll just use a piece of radiator hose to hook up one of the tailpipes to the exhaust manifold. It will look OK from the top and I am not even going to paint any detail underneath as it is a waste of time. Nobody will see the chassis, not even in a contest as they only check wheel an tire alignment and don't touch the models. at least for the contest that I go to. Here are some photos. Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments and suggestions! I finished the interior and the cab with no issues. The windows fit well, interior plugs right into the body and hood fits well. I used a thin strip of foil as a paint divider and you can't really see it but it makes the separation cleaner. And lo and behold - the six cyl. came today! I didn't order it until Thursday last week and it already has arrived! It was packaged nicely and looks very good. Josh added a few extra parts since its my first purchase. Its very nice and looks ready to paint! Thanks for looking! ? -

Thanks, Randy, Robert, Tommy, and Alan! I appreciate your comments! Tommy, I have built the 63 Polar Lights Nova and your right that was a nice engine. I may buy another one just to have it but I have a Ford 240 six on the way! Well, I have never has so many paint issues on any one model in my life that I can remember. Tape bleed-throughs, crooked tape lines, tape tears in the paint (see photo), etc. But finally all the painting is done! Now, I get to rub everything out. Fortunately, it won't take much as the Dupli-Color paint and the Krylon Clear lacquer went on pretty smoothly. It was difficult to eliminate all the high and low paint areas in the bed of the truck and on the multiple surfaces on the trailer but I finally got everything ironed out. I did see a nice tip on the HPI Guys video for the wheels. If you clip off the tabs on the wheels, you can save your fingers from a lot of pain. Thanks for looking! ? -

Thanks, Robert! I took a look at the VCG website and the engine looks good. I agree with you, even if it is a 64 engine its a Ford six so it will do. I bit the bullet and ordered one! I have also decided on the paint scheme for this one. I will use Dupli-Color Dark Toreador Metallic and Pure White to look something like this: -

Thanks, Anthony and Bob! I appreciate your comments! I've been working on prepping everything for paint and thought I would stick a six cyl. in it. But trying to find a 60-ish Ford six is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Kitchen Table Resins used to have six cylinder engines but the website says out of business, although they still have engines for sale but the price is $19 plus shipping. The kit engine is not very good with a tri-carb setup which seems a little unrealistic to me. I'm tempted to use the 60 Chevy six from the truck kit in this one. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! -
This AMT kit is my next build. My grandsons got this for me for Father's Day. This is a retooled kit and looking at the video by the HPI Guys, its a nice kit with no fitment issues. A trailer is also included. So the grandsons did good! There are no color call outs on the instruction sheet so I am on my own. The exteriors are predominantly all 1 color but there are a few two-tones so I think I will probably two-tone this one. Not sure what color yet but I've done a lot of blue and green lately so maybe red and cream will be the colors. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Bob and David! I appreciate your comments! This old relic is done! You could do a lot of work to this one, but in the long run its not worth it to me. Just paint it, foil it, assemble it and put it on the shelf. More photos in the "Under Glass" section.

Thanks, Carl, Anthony, and Curtis! i appreciate your comments! Finished the foil on the body and also put the interior together. I didn't use foil in the interior and just used chrome pen. I painted in some wood and used the speedo decal and I'll call it good enough. I should be able to finish this one up in the next day or two. Thanks for looking! ?

My son picked this one up for me at Ollie's for my birthday. I didn't even know there was an Houston but my son informed me it was in Katy which is a western suburb about 60 miles from here. So he also bought a can of Icy Blue by Rustoleum (I don't really want to label it Testors as Rustoleum has ruined the paint). This is a very old kit with the hole in the engine for the metal axle although they have eliminated the screw posts. I am just building it box stock and if my son wants it I'll give it to him. I really don't build too many full size cars as I prefer to build muscle cars and sports cars. I foiled the Bonneville lettering on the side before paint and revealed the lettering with some lacquer thinner after painting the body with Icy Blue. No sense using good paint on this one. I've also rubbed it out a bit and have started on the foil finishing the foil at the rockers. The interior is black and I'll do a little detailing. It should come together pretty quick and keep my busy for a few days while I recuperate from a surgery last week. Thanks for looking! ?
