  1. Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! This one is done for now. Red Stripes for the hood and trunk are on order but it may be awhile. They are coming from Western Canada by Post Office so may be 10 days to 2 weeks. All the parts are on except for the exterior mirrors which I'll add after the decals because I normally will knock them off during the decaling process. The last photo includes another one that I completed in 2020 that I painted with Americana acrylic Banana Cream. I like the color and painting the acrylic through airbrush was a nice experience. Building this kit is always a lot of fun because it goes together so well. One of AMT's better kits, IMO. I'll be back with final photos in white box once I have the decals on. Thanks for looking! ?
  2. Ok, this one is together! Only a few more pieces and the decals have been printed and should be in the mail. It may take a few days to receive the decals but I'll take pics once I receive them and post them at that point. In the meantime, I will finish the few additional parts that need to be attached. The interior fits nicely into the body and the chassis fits the body easily as well. The radiator and top and bottom hose from the old assembly fit right in place and saved some time. I have added the heater hoses and finished in the engine compartment. Only the front bumper/grill and rear bumper/taillights are left to complete. I'll also add mirrors after I am finished with the decals. Thanks for looking! ?
  3. Bob, I apparently posted my comment after you had already damaged your paint. I'm sorry for that, I guess I didn't see the 3rd page or my comment posted at the same time as yours. But I hate to see you give up on the two-tone. I agree with David, tape two times and give the first color a couple of days to dry before taping off for the second color. In my case, I like to use index cards to keep as much tape off of paint as possible. Also, I usually will put on a light coat of clear lacquer over the first coat as the Krylon Lacquer I use dries fast and hard and will prevent damage from the second application of tape to the first coat. You mentioned you had problems around the headlights and taillights. I have built this one before two-tone and here's what I did. The underside of the headlight buckets actually has some primer and is not well painted but nobody will notice. I could have touched up with a brush also and again, nobody will notice. I did a straight line in back which I think looks fine. I try to use lacquer for bodies and this one is painted with Tamiya Light Green Pearl but I used Krylon Ivory, which I am told by Krylon is some sort of acrylic enamel but I have never had any problem with Krylon Clear Lacquer over it. Unfortunately, they no longer make the color, Ivory. I am told that Tamiya Racing White is a good off-white for these 50s two-tones, but I haven't tried it yet. If you can't repair the paint you've already painted, stick it in the oven cleaner and give it another try! You can do it! Good Luck! Here are some pics of what I did.
  4. Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! The engine is complete and now its time to start assembly. I modified an air cleaner by cutting off the skinny snorkel from this parts box air cleaner and gluing a snorkel from a 64 Chevy onto the air cleaner. Next, I cut a piece of .080 rod and stuck it on the snorkel. I also have a 442 decal for the air cleaner that will be applied on final. The air cleaner is suppose to be orange-red but I don't have any and I didn't want to mix up paint and air brush it for just the air cleaner so I just painted it orange. Its stuck on with handy-tak for now, just in case I have to make any adjustments for hood closure which I don't anticipate. I added plug wires, scratched a coil, and have drilled holes for the heater hoses that will be installed on final assembly. High performance 455s are suppose to be red so that's what i painted the block. The valve covers are closer to what I saw on the internet and might be a bit long but they will work for me. Plug wires are the Morgan Automotive pre-wired distributor with wire looms (Pro-Tech) and boots. I just left the alternator and power steering pump flying as it is hard to tell. Thanks for looking! ?
  5. Don't let any of what I say scare you off, Bob. Its really not too hard to do. I would let it dry for a couple of days and go for it for the two-tone. Tamiya tape works pretty well and it really won't take too long to tape off. Good Luck! ?
  6. Bob, the engine and chassis are looking good! You asked about painting two-tones. I always tape mine off twice in the primer to avoid peeling off gloss paint, even from the chrome trim. A chip even in the chrome trim doesn't look good once foiled. Since you have one color coat painted, I would tape off the top edge and the bottom edge with Tamiya tape first, then cut some index card and tape them to the Tamiya tape, again using Tamiya tape preferably. Put the tape on the index card (thick stock, not paper thin), then tape it to the Tamiya tape on the body. I know that will be difficult around the rear fender spears, requiring some bending, but it will keep tape that can leave a mark off the paint that you have just painted, especially if you are using masking tape on the card stock for better adhesion. Also don't forget to tape off the inside for overspray. Each window and the top need to be covered inside. Looking good so far. Keep up the good work! ? ?
  7. Thanks, Carl! I don't know about the blue one yet. If I find another chassis I might rebuild it too. Completed the interior today. This is the interior that I had in the kit. The only parts I am using from the previous build are the chassis and related parts, tires and wheels. Painted it with an old can of WalMart Fire Red and applied a light coat of Dullcote. Not much to see in the interior; some foil and chrome pen, paint, and its done. I foiled the gauges and then just used some paint and blackwash to create the illusion of faces on the gauges. Next, I'll work on the engine that I painted today. I'll add plug wires, a coil, and heater hoses to it tomorrow. Thanks for looking! ?
  8. Thanks, Jeremy and Carl! I appreciate your comments! ? I've rubbed out the body and foiled it. So I thought about how to complete this one and I finally sorted it out. I found an old build that the bumpers seem to be tarnished a bit with age and the paint has a few issues as well. So I have carefully removed the engine and I am going to build a regular 442. I modified an air cleaner from the parts box and I will paint the engine red with an orange air cleaner. I'll paint the interior a dark red and then order some red hood and trunk stripes from Keith Marks. I'll start by painting the inner fenders black over the red and then tackle the engine to add plug wires and heater hoses. Time to get started! Thanks for looking! ?
  9. Thanks, Jeremy, Bob, and Mario! I appreciate your comments! ?
  10. I've built this a couple of times and I have this partial kit as I used the chassis out of it for another GM car but I can't remember which one. I bought another kit so I have all the parts to completed it but thought if I could mate this with another chassis then I would have two of them. I have the engine and interior and all the parts but not the chassis. If worse comes to worse, I might steal the chassis and engine from a previous build, then I wouldn't have to kit-bash another kit. I'm going to look in the parts box for another chassis or the closet for some other kit that I will never build. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. In the meantime, I painted the body (hood came out OK) and found that I didn't get the mold lines out on the B pillar so I sanded those out again and repainted with Dupli-Color Universal Black and two coats of clear lacquer on Monday. I let it dry for a couple of days and have been rubbing it out all day. Still not sure its done, so I am going to let it rest overnight and take a final crack at it tomorrow. Thanks for looking! ?
  11. Looks great so far! Nice interior color and detail! Exterior paint looks fantastic too! ??
  12. Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your comments! I guess this must be considered a van or an early SUV as it was moved here. It is a car; a SEDAN. But its OK as I guess the sign on it makes it commercial also. So, thanks for moving it! ?
  13. Thanks, Csaba! I appreciate your comment! ?
  14. Just finished this Revell kit. The paint is Krylon Satin Ivory on top and Krylon Short Cuts Expresso on the bottom. I added a red decal that I cut from another decal sheet as a paint divider. I added plug wires, a coil and brake master cyl. with booster to the engine compartment. The high rise manifold with duel carbs was also eliminated and a cross ram intake and air cleaner from the parts box substituted. The rear door hinges work well and I also added tear drop taillights from the parts box. I didn't use the fog lamps on the front bumper or the eye shade on the top. Everything went together well. Barrels are handi-taked down inside the rear door. Thanks for looking! ?
  15. Looks great! Nice paint and detail work! ? ?
  16. Thanks, Jim! I appreciate your comment! This one is done! Rear door works and I used some handi-tak for the barrels in the back. I added a brake master cyl. and booster from the parts box to stop this 427 and hung a coil on the firewall. Battery must be in the back. Everything fit well. I left off the fog lights on the front bumper and the eye shade as I didn't like the look. Thanks for looking and final photos in the "Under Glass" section. ?
  17. Thanks, Sonny! I appreciate your comment! This is a mock-up on wheels. The rear door is hinged and working, Windows are and interior are in and now I just have to finish a couple of barrels, glue everything together and mount all the hardware and it will be done! Thanks for looking! ?
  18. Thanks, Wes, Bob, Jeremy and Carl! I appreciate your comments! I haven't posted in a few days but have been busy with other things in addition to work on this project. I rubbed out the paint and had to re-paint one side of the brown but I didn't want to clear it because the humidity was too high and I didn't want the blush or fog on the clear. So I let it sit for a couple of days and then rubbed it out a bit with some polish and it looks fine. While waiting on the paint, I assembled the engine. I didn't want to use the high-rise manifold with carbs sitting on top. It also had a magneto. So I found a cross-ram intake with a couple of lumps for carbs in extra parts and an air cleaner to cover both. I then used a pre-wired distributor and will hang the coil on the firewall later. I also made a bracket from a piece of strip styrene for the alternator. Once the paint was dry on the body, I finished rubbing it out. I didn't clear the fender unit either, as I thought it looked good enough without it and so I didn't touch it for a couple of days either. I then foiled and and used a king size sharpie around the windows to trim them. Also trimmed the sides of the hood with foil. Finally, I cut some red decals that I had in the decal stash in strips to serve as a paint divider between the two color. Although the tape line was ok, a red divider always works for me and makes it a little cleaner. That's it for now. Thanks for looking! ?
  19. Thanks, Jeremy, Bob, David, and Gregory! I appreciate your comments! Thanks, David. My storage problem is not the bags as my wife has every zip lock known to man. My problem is I have too much stuff! Well, with a hurricane developing in the Gulf, even though it is forecast to go into Louisiana, we are still going to get a lot of rain. So I couldn't wait for my paint to get here and went out and bought a can of Krylon Short Cuts Expresso (dark brown). Beautiful day for painting today with humidity about 40 percent so the paint came out pretty good! The last can of Short Cuts I got was horrible but this one is great! A Nice gloss brown finish. So once I rub this out it will be ready to build. Everything else is also painted. Should keep me busy in the rain! Thanks for looking! ?
  20. I saw this at Hobby Lobby and picked it up as couple of weeks ago. I started it last night and today I made some headway. I started by removing the mold lines on both rear corners and decided to use some teardrop taillights (see next paragraph) so I filled the notch for the single taillight on the left side with some putty and sanded it out. I am two-toning the exterior with Krylon Satin Ivory ( my last since they are not manufacturing it anymore) and Dupli-Color Dark Toreador Metallic. Its a whisky delivery truck so a redish brown color seems appropriate. Trouble is I ordered the Dupli-color from an e-tailer because I can get it much cheaper than an auto parts store even with the delivery charge. So I have to wait for the paint and its suppose to rain all week due to some disturbance in the Gulf so I may be stymied this week. Anyway, my wife tells me I need to clean up my modeling mancave, so I agreed to work on it at least an hour each day. I started by trying to sort out some of my extra parts that I have stored in a four-drawer chest to make more room for stuff. As I am going through parts that I have bagged by model I have built so I can tell where the parts came from. I found what looks like tear-drop taillights, two sets, in bags for a 55 Chevy convertible with the continental kit (see second photo). I don't know if these were just on the parts tree and left there because I don't think they could be used for anything for a 55 Chevy and I couldn't find them in the instructions. They are marked as parts no. 68 on the tree. But they will do fine for taillights for some street rod builds. Finally, I have some other parts painted and others still to paint, including the whiskey barrels. I will have to find some dark brown paint for them. Thanks for looking! ?
  21. Thanks again, everyone! I appreciate your comments! ?
  22. Yes, it is indeed sinister looking! The paint, engine and interior just come together and it looks great! Nice work! ??
  23. Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your comments! ?
  24. Looks great, Randy! Nice to see your work again! ??
  25. This is the retooled MPC kit by Round 2. The paint is Tamiya Light Metallic Blue with a Krylon Satin White and Black interior. The vinyl top is painted 2" masking tape cut to fit and painted black. I have added plug wires with looms and boots, a coil, a top radiator hose and heater hoses. The engine is painted orange for a high performance 440. Everything went together well with positive pin placements for the most part. Thanks for looking! ?
