  1. Here we go again. Another thread about the cost of models. If you don't like the price. Don't buy the model. How many times are we going to beat this dead horse?
  2. I'm wondering and would like to see some information and photos on AMT's 1/16th scale model cars. How many kits were offered? When and why did AMT start offering kits in this scale? How was the level of detail? Did they all have the same basic features, like opening doors? What was the good and bad of these kits? We need a list of what was made by AMT in with scale. Below is a list of what I believe was offered. In some cases I had some of them, so I know for sure those exist. 1955 Ford Thunderbird * 1957 Ford Thunderbird * 1965 ('64 1/2?) Ford Mustang 2-door coupe 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door hardtop 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible 1955 Chevrolet Nomad 2-door wagon 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door hardtop 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible 1957 Chevrolet Nomad 2-door wagon * I've owned these 2 for sure at some point. Those are the ones I remember. I don't know if that's a complete, or even correct list. The Thunderbirds, especially the '55, I'd love to see reissued. We know the Mustang was reissued just a couple of years ago, for Mustang's 50th anniversary. And I beleive they've announced the '55 Nomad is coming back soon.
  3. With AMT's 1/16 scale '55 Nomad coming back, I wonder about their 1/16th scale model kits? The one I'd like to see is their 1/16 '55 Thunderbird. I could be talked into buying the '57 Bird too. But, with no other '55 kit out there, that is the one I'd really to see.
  4. A great story. I had never heard that one before. I wonder if there are many Imperials left out there with that top? I doubt it. Be kind or cool, and ugly, to have one.
  5. Other than that green stuff, that looks and sounds great! How people can ruin perfectly good food by adding green plants to it I'll never understand. Lettuce is okay. But, broccoli and others? Ugh! ? And I don't know if mentioned this one before. But, a great local only, drive-in is Wagners off of highway 81 just north of I-694 in Brooklyn Center, MN. Summer only. Good greasy food. And a pretty good place to do a little car watching. Well worth the stop.
  6. The big scale kits have always been a problem for me. Where do you put them when your done? That and the cost. 1/8 scale is pretty big and pretty expensive. And I personal have no real interest in the Big Drag. The only one of that scale I have any interest in is Monogram's '65 Corvette. Even then, I'm not 100% sure I'd buy one. Now I don't mind 1/16 scale car kits. They're still big. But not as big 1/8. The prices for 1/16 kits seem to be within my budget if the subject is right. I recently picked up an unbillt, mostly complete, MPC '63 Corvette. And I could easily part with my money for either of AMT's 1/16 Thunderbirds. Especially the '55. But, 1/8? Like I say Monogram's '65 Corvette maybe. And again that's just a maybe. There is one other large scale kit I would be will to part with my money for. And I can't remember off hand the scale. I'm pretty sure it was smaller than 1/8. But, bigger than 1/16. And that is Monogram's Mean Maverick funny car.
  7. Man, I'm with you on the Ala Kart Snake. I too have never cared for it. I like the early 70's look red Mod Rod on the one side of the box. That's the main reason I bought the kit. On that same box side, they show old fashion competition model. That's my plans for car number 2 in the box. Though I'm thinking of painting that one a gray of some sort. The Mod Rod? I can't quite make up my mind on that. I'm leaning towards Testor's One Coat Lacquer in either Stat Spangled Blue or Ice Blue. The red or yellow box art versions don't do for me. The yellow looks good without fenders. But, for sure it would not work with the fendered version I want to build.
  8. Wouldn't kid you about that. The only odder thing in vinyl roofs were Chrysler's flower pattern roofs offered on certain Plymouths at about the same time. It was a fun and interesting time. Even though I don't like things like vinyl roofs. I miss some of the weird things auto manufacturers use to do back then. Interior wise, I still love a lot of the pattern cloths you use to see. Especially on the upper priced luxury cars. Heck. I still like velour. Beats leather in comfort and looks that everybody else seems to like now days.
  9. Nice looking Olds.
  10. WIP make sense. ppl for people not so much. I bet your right.
  11. Mercury Cougar. Ford Mustang. I'm sure there were a lot more. There were some interesting trends in car back the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I miss it. By the way, the Cougar was even available with a houndstooth vinyl roof at one point.
  12. Haven't seen that one. I've notice that since I've gone to doing most of my web stuff on my Apple iPod. I've had a lot less trouble with things like that.
  13. I like using the quote feature. As you can see here. Did I need to do it in this case? No. But, I had to do it just to be a smart you know what!?
  14. What does "ppl" mean? And also "WIP"? I'm sorry, but I'm a little slow when it come to some of these abbreviations. About the only one I understand and use is "IMO". (Even then I had to think about it just now.) I also have problem with a lot of personal license plates on cars. A lot of times I just don't get them until they are explained to me. My last IQ test had me at 115. So we know I'm not stupid. I just can't figure these things out sometimes.
  15. Around here Buger King has added hot dogs to their menu. I've tried them twice. I was not impressed. If I want a hot dog I'll go to a gas station chain, like Super America and get one. Or better yet, a Holiday station. But, as mentioned before, we in Minnesota live in a vast wasteland when it comes to good hot dogs. There is little to no place around here to get a really Chicago style hot dog. Someone also brought up corn dogs here. Better than corn dogs are Proto Pups. They are like corn dogs. But, have a slightly different breading to them. The one place and time of the year to get really good "fast" or "junk" food around here, is in late August at the Minnesota State Fair. I don't know why, but I love fair food. Especially state fair food. Pronto Pups, cheese curds, Martha's cookies, and all the you can drink milk booth. Throw in a foot long hot dog. What more can one ask for? To bad I hate going to places that are overly crowded like our state fair.
  16. Oh I forgot to mention last night, that the copy of Monogram's 1/24 '65 Corvette i got is molded in dreaded red plastic. Thankfully I plan on doing the car in red with a red interior. But, I HATE red styrene plastic. There has been some controversy in other posts here, whether red styrene has some dye in it that eventually bleeds through paint you put over it. I don't know what the truth is on that particular subject. But in my experience, red styrene is the worst color, even with primer on it, to paint over in anyother color. Thankfully I wanted to paint my '65 in something close to Chevrolet's Rally Red from that year. So Tamyia's bright red should work just fine.
  17. Culver's are great. As noted before, I love their fried chicken. But their burgers and other sandwiches are great too. I'm not a big fan of their fries. I go for their onion rings instead. Great cheese curds. Very good frozen custard. Like fish? They offer both walleye and cod. And both are good. I also like their pot roast. The only thing I'm not thrilled by are their fries. They're not bad fries. I just find them a little boring.
  18. Wow! Was that boring. Don't ask this guy time. He'ii tell you how to build a clock.
  19. I got my Monogram 1/24 scale '65 Sting Ray coupe in the mail today. It looks better than I expected. I cringe looking at the photo of the model on the box art with the dip in the upper windshield molding. The kit I found in the box looks much better. It was interesting to compare the body of it to their later '67 kit. It's just a hair bigger. But not as much as I've seen comparing other 1/24 scale cars to their 1/25 counterparts. The detail is no where near as good as their later '67s. Or their later '63 snap kits. It's a little better than AMT's '63. Though I still love AMT's '63. So over all, I'm please with what I found in the box of Monogram's 1/24 scale '65 Corvette.
  20. Very cool. I too have never seen the red roadster or the orange coupe.
  21. Interesting, the parts left out of my kit, the Original Art Series version, are both frames. I sure this is some sort of minor mistake with my kit only. I've contacted Round 2's customer service to let them know about it. So I'm sure I'll have the parts pretty soon. Besides missing the one tree with both frames, I'm a little surprised by how much flash I'm finding with this kit. I've seen worst. But, I expect a little better from Round 2.
  22. What kit is this? Is this the mid-60's Mustang show car we were talking about here a couple of weeks ago?
  23. Oh! Your build looks great by the way.
