  1. Good question Tim. I just got my Chevooom a couple of days ago. They make no real note of it, but the triangle areas are shown in gray in the instructions just like the other part that needs to be cut off. Sorry I'm unable to post a picture of my instruction sheet. But, it's there. Your comments about need to do the extra cutting got me to notice it. If you hadn't brought it up, I might have missed it at first. So thank you pointing out the need for extra cutting. Scott
  2. This may sound stupid. As I started doing some preliminary work on my Blazer this morning, the thought came upon seeing and handling this kit it's like seeing an old friend again for the first time in years. It's really nice to have the '72 Blazer out again. I've always love the Chevy trucks of this generation. And I like both AMT and MPC kits from that era. Having and working on this kit brings back very good memories. And here's the kicker. I never own a copy of this kit back in the day. I remember a friend having one, and lusting over it. But, I never owned one until about 15 years ago. Yet working on this kit is not taking me back 15 years. It's taking me back 40+ years. Weird. Scott
  3. No problems with mine. The plastic is fine on mine. Scott
  4. You are correct. I was talking about the saloon/sedan in this case. Scott
  5. Started some basic work on my Chevooom tonight. Things are looking pretty good. One of the first things I did was to cut off the rear section of the chassis as shown in the instructions. By the way, my instructions do show the triangles that also need to be cut from chassis. Test fitting the chassis I can see why these cuts need to be done. And the chassis fits well after the cuts are done. Scott
  6. ???? Explain? Why?
  7. I like the reported cause of the Stearman accident above. "100% Pilot Error (60% poor judgement, 40% poor techniques)" Wow! No question to who's at fault there. Scott
  8. Okay, I guess that's fair. Only will be 104 degrees here with 96% humidity. Feast or famine here on the Northern Plains. Scott
  9. Okay, more info. One of the attached extras the RCMP sent me, is a printed history listing 1974 for sure as the year for the switch to the blue cars with white doors. They also sent me a photo of a RCMP '73 Plymouth Fury. Again it is painted black with white doors. Looking at the MPC box art in the picture above, is that car blue or black? It looks blue to me. But, I'm not sure? Either way, I'm leaning more to painting my Caprice black with white doors, since the "official" information I've gotten from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police show and say the cars were black for 1973. And if you can't trust the RCMP, who can you trust? (And I'm not being sarcastic about that. I really do trust the RCMP.) It was a non RCMP, but a Canadian Police Car source that indicated the blue cars came in '73. Yet they had no pictures to back that up. Scott
  10. So does the body of model just sit lose on the chassis? Or is there some way securing it? Scott
  11. I try to build everything I get. Very rarely have I found a kit I wanted to give up on. I do best I can with each of them. Some are more challenging than others. But, hopefully that is making me a better modeler as I learn to work through those problems. Serval people in this thread have mentioned several kits I've seen no real problems with. Are these kits perfect in my eyes? No. But, I can work around most of their problems. And end up with a pretty decent model that I'm over all happy with. Scott
  12. I had a great day yesterday. I worked back at a High School I hadn't worked at this year yet. Worked in the Media Center (that's the library to us older folk) supervising AP study hall. But, I had kids from all over the school stopping by to say hi to me. And telling me how glad they were to see me. Sometimes I wonder if I'm having any impact on the kids I work with. Yesterday I walk out of that school on Cloud 9, knowing I'm having positive impact on the kids in that school. And I hadn't seen serveral of them in nearly a year. Then I went this month's meeting of the MCCM (Model Car Club of Minnesota). Had a great time there. Got some kits I've been waiting for. And after the meeting, several of us went over to a local restaurant and continued having fun and great discussions about model kits, cars, and other things. Plus a lot of fun joking and bantering. All-in-all, it was a very good day. I'm not big into religion, but I do have thank God for days like that. By the way, today has not been as rewarding or fun as yesterday. But you know, it's still been pretty darn good. Need to thank God again. Scott
  13. Hey you guys from the warmer climates, quit rubbing our nose in it, by telling us Northerners how nice you have it in Florida, Arizona, or where ever. We're going though another cold snap with no end in sight. We're suffering enough in our lands of cold and ice. Scott
  14. Thank you for your apology Joe. And thank you for thinking I may be doing good work. I try. I hear a lot complaining by people about how bad this or that is. Rather than complaining, I try to figure out where I can make changes that might make things a little better. I may not be able to fix the big problems. But, by fixing the small ones I can, I can sometimes help fix the bigger problems in the end. And by the way, not all of my attempts work or are even right every time. But at least I try. And overall I am seeing some pretty good results. Scott
  15. Via e-mail I requested info on RCMP cars of this time period, from the RCMP themselves. I just got a e-mail back from them with a bunch of attachments I haven't had the chance to go through yet. What I do know so far, is they know of the old MPC kit, but have no photos of it. They attach a photo of the a '71 Chevy 4-door done in black with white doors and the style of door decal as shown on Carl's model above. They also seem to indicate that blue colored cars really did not come in to use until 1974. So Carl, you may have built your model the correct color after all. I'm going to have to take some time to go through the other stuff they sent me. I will pass on more information here as I find it, if others are interested. Scott
  16. Got mine last night. Opened the box, and like what I see. Scott
  17. A member of our local model car club, brought a straight built out of box one to our meeting last. I was more impressed than I expected to be. A pretty nice looking model. I'm going to pick one up. And do a quick build straight out of box with it. It willing be fun to build something quickly that looks that good. Scott
  18. Wow! Some guys from my local model car club were just talking about this car at dinner after our meeting last night. After seeing the video, I am blown away. That is amazing. Scott
  19. As of last night I got both the stock '69 Corvair kit, and the Chevooom Corvair Funny Car kit. I have questions about the tires in the stock Covair kit. Man, do they look small! How do these fit and look when they are on the kit? They are smaller than a molded plastic tire I can also see in the kit. I do like the fact they restored the clear red taillights to the kit. The last one I built was the Prestige version from the 1980's. That one I believe had chrome taillights that needed to be painted. No big deal. But I like the clear red ones better. Another thing I like about the clear red ones, is the provision for the chrome backup lights. That's kind of cool. Beyond that it looks like same old Corvair kit I've always loved. Looking at the instructions, I really like the detail of the engine and the rear suspension. Easy to build with just enough detail. The Chevooom Corvair is new to me. I like what I've seen so far after opening the box. It looks like the exact same body as in the stock '69 kit. Even the same clear red taillights with the provision for the backup lights. But no chrome piece for the backup lamps. That's okay, the drag car doesn't need backup lights. They're taken out to let more heat escape from the big V-8. Which the decals say is a 427. A 427 what? Looks like a Chrysler 426 Hemi to me. Also of interest are the '66 Barracuda taillights on the chrome tree. It gives you a hint of the origins of this kit. The only question I have about the Chevooom, is how does the body mount on to the chassis? I see no provisions for it to tilt up in the normal funny car manner. Look at the instructions, I almost get the impression the body is just set up to lose on the chassis. Does anybody know anything about this? All in all, I'm happy with both kits. And im looking forward to adding the Corvair powered Piranha Spy Car kit in the near future. I love just about anything tied to Chevy's misunderstood rear engined car. Scott
  20. Last night I got 4 new AMT kits. 1. 1/32nd scale Studebaker Avanti. 2. Crew Chief '72 Chevy Blazer. 3. 1969 Corvair Monza. And 4. Chezooom Corvair Funny Car. All 4 great plasts from the past. Scott
  21. 20 below zero wind chill tonight! Actual/non wind chill will also be below zero tonight. Spring? That should get here sometime in June or July. Scott In the cold state of Minnesnowta.
  22. Substitute educational para. I've talked about this many times before. I mostly work with special ed/special needs kids. 8 years as of this month I've been doing this job. It's the greatest job I've ever had. I love it and the kids. I keep hearing all these different things about how bad the kids are or the how bad education system is today. I don't see it. In general most kid are pretty good. The schools I work at seem to do a pretty good job of educating the kids. I keep hearing how different and lacking the education is that we're giving kids today. I think it's getting better. Between the extra help for special needs kids and technology we have today, I think it's easier to get an education today. If your willing to use it. Now there are some kids who for what ever reason refuse to use the services offered to them. But, that was true when I was in school back in the 60's and 70's. The only thing I see that has gotten worst from "my day" is the use of foul language today. But again that's true with the public in general. I feel the kids reflect a lot of world around them, both inside and outside of school. I do my best at trying to be a good roll model and teach them as much as can. Beyond that, there is not much more that I can do. The question is, what is rest of our society doing to help these kids move forward in a positive manner? Scott
  23. Wow! That would be great. Scott
  24. Amen. And by the way Monty, I do work with the kids directly in a teacher related situation. Most kids are doing okay. Those that are not many times have problems coming in from outside of the schools. But, given the right attention they're for most part all good kids. Scott
