  1. Thanks for the comments Thanks for the tip David. The problem was I have a new light & was mucking around with different cloth filters. Bill, you are right in line with my thinking about the proportions. My son calls them art cars. Wheels are off than old Long John parts kit. Well spotted Brian
  2. Never was a big fan of some of the more radical rat rods but they make for interesting models. Started with the Revel '32 sedan & started cutting. One of the things I do like is the odd ball engines used. So this is a de Havilland Gypsy aircraft engine with a scroll supercharger! There is a triple carb setup to come as well. Opening up the roof will let me do some detailing of the rear end & cockpit area which doesn't happen often. No real ideas on colour yet but it won't be black! Thanks for looking & sorry for the lousy lighting, I was experimenting.... badly Brian
  3. Got to go to Utah for mine One old school & one for the jet age. Brian
  4. So many awesome builds!! Considering I have loved Mustangs since I was a kid I have more in the box than on the shelf but this is my favourite. Brian
  5. Thank you for the kind comments gentlemen. It was a bit of a worry posting a bit of a weird idea on a truck site but it was a lot of fun to get done. Steve - there are bits of this kit that are a pain in the proverbial but one of the secrets of custom building is that it lets me duck around the hard bits !!! JT - I did play around with the idea of transporter but there other weird things in my head that have to get out so it'll have to wait till another day. I have a Merc SLS AMG GT3 sitting here. if I get a street version I could cut & shut it into a modern version of the Merc transporter they used in the 50's.... Anyone care to have a go at that one? Thanks again Brian
  6. Finally done & pretty pleased with how it looks. This was my first truck build & a lot of fun. Started with the Lindberg L700 kit & added a Viper V10 with turbos! Since its a race truck it was lowered a little & a few aero mods added. Hope you like it. Brian

    Cobra Wagon

Congratulations That is the first time I have seen a roof on a Cobra that looks like it should be there. Well designed, well built !! Brian
  8. Probably not enough progress to justify a lot of photos but at least it is progress. Engine installation is complete bar the radiator hoses & blow off valves that need to go on after the rear body is in place. Silver is stripe colour & will be masked for the overall orange. 90% of the cockpit detail is done just waiting for paint before fitting B
  9. First hit with the primer to find the bits that still need cleaning up - Lots to do! Body shape & proportions are pretty well fixed now. Happy with the front end. At the moment I think I'll just put a couple of big Gurney flaps on the rear fenders & leave it simple. Cockpit next. With that big screen I'll be able to put some detail into it - belts, cables, ducting etc Thanks Brian
  10. Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I was a little worried posting something so different on a truck site..... Have to admit that I am enjoying my first truck build though. Jonathan. I have moved the rear axle in & out a couple of times & at the moment the gearbox is about a millimetre from the diff but I'll cut the extension housing off & put a shorter one on to give it a shaft although it will be short !!. Proportions & stance are about right now so I'll start on the rear nerf bar. I'll try hanging a bit of a diffuser off it some how. Colour will be hemi orange with silver stripes & features. Hope it keeps you amused !! Brian
  11. RR is for Road Race. This is my idea of a race truck. Twin turbo Viper V10 of course & a "slightly" lower body with aero mods. Still a lot to do but you can see where its going. Brian 8" chop 20" chop! URL=http://s1232.photobucket.com/user/brianl3/media/L-700 RR/DSCF3984_zps7sbbzjsn.jpg.html]http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff362/brianl3/L-700 RR/DSCF3984_zps7sbbzjsn.jpg
  12. More from club mate Richard & a big contrast to the F350 I posted the other night. These are the 1/35 Meng Toyotas. Richard said they were a pleasure to put together & the detail is as good as you will see on any 1/24 kit. As usual Richards paint & detail are spot on. Brian And just to put things into scale!
  13. This beast is by club mate Richard who did the Merc 300SL & Lambo Veneno. Once again awesome eye for detail & killer paint. Brian
  14. Another one from my Club mate Richard (check out his 300SL). Box stock & one that hasn't turned up much on the forum. Awesome paint & construction although I gather the kit didn't go together anywhere near as well as the Tamiya Merc. This has to be the only car that makes the Batmobile look ordinary!! If you want an example of attention to detail check out the brake rotors, Richard drilled every hole! Brian
  15. We only have a small club, a dozen or so members but they produce some awesome models Richard's Mercedes 300SL by Tamiya is one of the best. Moulding & detail on the kit is superb. Richard said the kit was probably Tamiya's best. Colour is Tamiya Titanium Silver which brings up the lines beautifully. Check out the badgework & the hubcaps (hand painted). I took a lot of photos because it looked so good & I couldn't decide on the best so you got the lot! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have . Brian
  16. Hi Pat Turbine is from the STP Lotus kit. It's original issue & had been in my parts box for forty years or so! Used a photo-etched grill from a Tamiya rally kit to replace the original clear plastic pieces. Worked well with the salt flat racer concept. Brian
  17. Love weird engines !! I didn't set my photos to focus on the engines so much but you can get the idea.
  18. Tony You are right! The exhausts are too long. I originally planned to mount the wing off the back of the gear box as per the Indy car setup with the exhaust exiting between two vertical fins but the wing took away the look of the rear body work so I went for something smaller. Unfortunately it would have meant major surgery to shorten the exhaust pipe at that stage so what you see is what you get!! Thanks for the good words Brian
  19. Sweet rebuild mate! Awesome paint. Makes me want to drag mine out & have a go Brian
  20. Always nice to move out of the Workshop & into the glassy bit I wanted to do another club racer & I wanted to do a camo paint job & something as typically British as the Europa seemed the go. Body & chassis are by Tamiya & the power plant, transmission & wheels are Indy car. I did the guards in evergreen sheet & scrap bits. Only sad bit was the decals. It has been a long time since I have built aircraft & the decals left over were pretty old. Close enough though. Brian [U
  21. Thanks for the comments gentlemen Ville - the tubing is some ducting from the old Nascar kits. Being generally warmish here (currently 39C / 102F) air ducts like this are common on cars that don't run cool suits. Brian
  22. Finally done something worth talking about. Interior is just about finished. Didn't worry too much about the roll cage joints as they are hidden by the roof. Interior colour is Humbrol cockpit green for reasons that will become obvious later. Inlet side of the turbo installation is next. Brian
  23. Hi David I'm think of just using the wing off the Indy cay car. Is not so big so it wont dominate the bodies lines. Went to the Time Attack day in Sydney last month & saw some very cool ideas for mounting wings etc so I'll have a go at them. Just about to give the cockpit a final coat so I'll post some more pics soon.
  24. My type of build - love the styling and the attitude. Ya gotta finish it! Agree with Andy above - Mid engine with maybe a BIG turbo & dump pipe etc This thing is a lot of fun mate Brian
