  1. Nice job, Marc. I remember building this when I was about 14 (which is about the same time the Earth cooled ). I remember you from SAE with your articles and the occasional review. Welcome to the loony bin.
  2. Here's one I finished up (finally). Its the Jimmy Flintstone/Testors Tailspin. Since its a slammer, you'd think it wouldn't take me that long. Ha, you apparently don't know my build speed is measured in geologic time...This was an interesting little kit. The casting was realy good save for one issue I'll touch on in a moment. After wiping the body down with Gunk Bug and Tar Remover, I filled the few pinholes in the rockers with bondo. The color is Dupli- Color Ford Electric Currant Red. After several coats, the body was masked off save for the window areas and those were painted with Dupli- Color Universal Black, and then the car recieved several coats of Dupli- Color High- Gloss Clear. After a vigorous workout with my polishing cloths and some Black Magic wax, I foiled the window trim. Thats when I realized that the surface development for the drip rails was not the greatest. Workable, but not great. I had more fits foiling those areas than I've had in a long time. The headlight lenses are two sets of the custom lights from the Revell '90 Cougar, and the taillight lenses began life as the clear custom grille found in the AMT '64 Mercury, which I painted with Tamiya Clear Red. I wasn't thrilled with the way the grille turned out- eleven PE pieces with which I managed to achieve the 'installed by a drunken monkey' look. I'll have to redo that mess, but for now, on to my next project (think 'lets get small').
  3. And now they have these things called 'cell phones'. Imagine! A phone you can take anywhere! Whoda thunk it?
  4. The '429' in the '69 Galaxie is actually a dummied up FE (352, 390, 427, 428, etc). When I did mine, I pirated the engine from a Revell '70 Torino.
  5. Amen! (Where is all that 'global warming' I keep hearing about?)
  6. Nice concept and execution. A+ work

    1989 Regal

Thanks guys. As for the wheel/ tire combo, the set was made by a company called XS. I found these at Riders in Flint and immediately knew they were perfect for this car. My preference in wheels usually involves the five- spoke design. I think six- spoke wheels look tacky (they remind me too much of those horrid 'wagon wheels' peole were putting on their pickups and vans back in the '70's). However, I like the 7- spoke design.
  8. Very unique. Is it something innate for Northern Europeans to be such incredible builders?
  9. Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick? Absolutely stunning. .
  10. I never thought of a 4x4 Cameo, let alone one in red. Great stuff.
  11. Congrats on your new baby Gregg. May you have many enjoyable miles behind the wheel .

    1989 Regal

Well, thanfully, 2009 is in the history books (and what a crappy year it was). I won't bore y'all with the details, but last year took its toll on me. Now, I'm in a new place, my workbench is set up, and I cranked this out in about two weeks. It started as a promo, but I made a few little tweaks. First off, I didn't like the ride height or the stock whitewall/ wire wheelcover combo. So...I removed the wheels, propped the car up on some coins (two quarters and a dime in back, two quarters in front) and epoxied this really nice wheel- tire- brake combo (I'll get back with you on the manufacturer) in place. After the car was disassembled, I polished out the body with my polishing cloths, Turtle Wax polishing compound and Black Magic wax. The chrome was all tarnished and worn, so I redid it all with foil and did a black wash on the grille. The taillight received the foil treatment as well, and the window trim was masked off and painted with Polly S Steam Power Black. The Regal emblems were foiled, and I did a wash with Polly S Lehigh Valley Red, which is a perfect match for the maroon plastic the body was molded in. I also mixed up some Lehigh Valley Red and some dark green with a touch of black to flow into all the panel lines. So much for the body. The interior received a lot of paint detailing, along with scratchbuilt turn signal stalk and shift lever and a set of keys from a Detail Master interior junk set and some custom mixed flocking. I plan to make a spoiler like the one on my 1:1 Grand Prix, but, for all practical purposes, I got one finished.
  13. My faves are Dupli- Color and its corporate cousin Plastikote.
  14. We had a really bad one here in December '00. The snow started in the afternoon and continued to get worse. By the time I got to work about 5 PM we already had several inches. I drove my cab out to Lennon to pick up a fare, and what should have been a 45 minute run there and back turned into a three hour adventure. I finally got back to the office at about 11 pm. I was going to give the second shift dispatcher a ride home. You should of seen us walking to the car- he with MS and me with a bad leg, trying to walk around in snow that was now up to almost my knees- it was like watching a couple of drunks stumbling around. We couldn't even get out of the lot by this point, so one of the other drivers, the second and third shift dispatchers and myself all camped out in the office until 10 AM. By that point, the maintenance guy had plowed the lot, and the main roads were plowed, so I hopped in my Thunderbird and went home. Flint was closed down for two days over that storm. Yee- ha!
  15. Its 'Willys'. Not 'Willy'. The man's name was John North Willys.
  16. Actually, the MPC kit is a bit of a dog. Go out and buy the Revell '69 Mach I.
  17. I believe its a DeSoto Firedome. The wires feed in to the front center of the valve cover as a group. The flat are in the center of the covers was a wire cover.
  18. so where's my activation code?...

  19. Collector value? We don't need no steenkin' collector values . Looks good.
  20. I sre still waiting for my activation code for your forum.....

  21. As soon as I get my activation code.....
  22. Sweet kitbash. Can't wait to see it finished (maybe as a factory stock?).
  23. I like . For the front, how about the grille- bumper assembly from the Monogram '58 Thunderbird?
  24. The G scale train stuff would be the ticket. Or, you could just get Mr. Obsessive to shrink down a real one with his shrink- ray gun (You really didn't think he built those models now, did you... ).
