  1. About a month ago I posted 4 pictures of 4 model kits on my FB page and let my friends pick one for me to build. They chose the Foose kit. I built it box stock. It is painted in Splash Paints Audi Autumn Shimmer. I have found that this model is hard to photograph. I can either get the beautiful deep color or I can get the glossy shine/reflection but I am unable to get both at the same time. I went with the deep color. I hope everyone likes it.
  2. This will be the final update. I will post up some pics in the Under Glass section. I kept the interior very minimalistic. I chose colors that I hope compliment the body color. For paint polishing I use the Micro Mesh cloths and then I use the three Tamiya compounds. I do not use any type of rotary tool as I find that I rather enjoy the act of polishing the paint out by hand. Oddly perhaps, I find it relaxing. When I was happy with the finish I cleaned out the panel lines and added some panel liner. I did a quick mockup to check the fit of the bed and interior. How about one teaser picture? Once again, this is just a mockup to see how everything fits together. None of the final bits and pieces are attached yet and nothing is glued in place. I have not even cleaned out the panel lines.
  3. Thank you, Carl! It is sure is. I'm very happy that I went with it. Thank you, David! I agree with you! I always did lean towards the Splash Paint Autumn Shimmer however.
  4. It really did. I was kind of liking the flat sheen of the paint but was always going to clear it. I'll post one more update before posting in the "Under Glass" section. I'm happy with the level of shine I was able to coax out of that paint job.
  5. The paint has had time to cure. I sanded back a few spots and actually reshot the hood. I cleared everything with Tamiya TS-13 straight from the can. While the clear coat cured I worked on the chassis and drivetrain. Next up is interior and polishing out the paint. Thanks for looking.
  6. Thank you, Bob! I agree with you, it is a nice kit. This is my first time using Splash Paint and only the third model body that I have airbrushed. Any issues with the paint were caused by me and there were really no major issues. I think I laid it down to heavy on the hood and slightly crazed a small area. BTW, thank you for your service! I also was USAF.
  7. There seems to be no shortage of interest in the Foose Ford FD-100 pickup here lately. I commented on James Paramore's, (bluestringer), build of this pickup on Feb. 7th that I started mine when he did. He did a beautiful job on his and had it done before I was even done with the body prep on mine ?. I am hoping mine turns out as nice as James' example did. I did something that was new to me and kinda fun. I posted on my Facebook page 4 pictures and labeled them 1 through 4. There were 3 racecars and this pickup. I asked my friends to choose which one I should build next. By a margin of 2:1 the Foose pickup was the clear winner. More women than men voted. More non-model builders voted than model builders. As is almost always the case with me, I am way further along in the build than my posts show. To be honest I hope to have mine finished up this week. I post WIPs in the hope that it may help someone else down the road. I will put a caption above/before each picture if needed. Here is the kit: The kit contents: I usually shoot a spoon with a new color to have an idea what it will look like. We all know that the base will affect the final color. I primed some spoons with Tamiya white primer. I then masked it and shot it with Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. I then shot the three colors you see. I had bought the Splash Paint's Audi Autumn Shimmer a long time ago with this pick up in mind and in the end that is the one I picked. The Dark Cherry was a close second. On to body prep. I have looked at a lot of built Foose pickups and watched a number of videos. There is a very nasty "'step" on the passenger front fender right above the headlight. I did some test fitting with the hood. It looks like I can sand out the step without, (or instead of), adding putty. I use a black Sharpie to highlight mold lines. This is a very, very nice kit from Revell but it is not perfect. The roof is a separate part that fits on the molded on roof. If I got it to sit correctly in the front, it would sit high in the back and visa-versa. Nothing a little glue and a few clamps wouldn't fix! With all of the body prep completed, including rescribing door panels and scribing around the windshield and back window, (to facilitate applying BMF), she was ready for primer and paint. I airbrushed Gravity Colors - Spain - dark surface primer. I then laid down the Splash Paint Audi Autumn Shimmer. BTW, this was my first time using Splash. Next update I'll be clear coating it and starting on the drivetrain. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!
  8. Very nice Lambo, Bruce! She looks good in that color.
  9. I was there. Was fortunate enough to win two classes. As Tom said, it was cooold!! And that was inside the venue!
  10. Much like Dan said a few posts up above, I tend to listen to more mellow music. Good old rock n roll for just about everything else but when I’m at the bench it is a little more subdued. I had a small TV at on time, years ago, and found it too distracting so I got rid of it.
  11. Group C……love ‘em! A very nice pair you have shared with us. It looks to me that the ones in the display case are just as nice!
  12. I could be mistaken and I’m not quite sure but I think everyone likes your paint job! ??. She’s a beauty, Mario! Fantastic result.
  13. Thank you, Steve! I have a good number of their F3000 series kits. I haven’t built any of them yet but they look to be nice kits.
  14. Thank you! Not sure how the little F1 will do. My hopes for good results are hanging on two Tamiya kits I've done. The Spirit of America Porsche 956 and the Honda Takata Dome NSX, both have been posted here. It is interesting to see how the judges judge models.
  15. Thanks, Larry! Much appreciated, Dave. I have a good number of those Ebbro kits. They really look like great kits. The built up examples I have seen are great. This little Hasegawa kit is a good fitting kit but doesn’t have a lot of detail. A nice shelf model in my opinion. I am going to enter it in an IPMS show in the morning. We’ll see how it goes.
  16. Hey, James, she turned out very, very nice! You knocked it out quickly too. You have set the bar pretty doggone high. All of my parts are in primer and the body is in color. I hope mine will turn out half as nice as yours did! Congrats on a job well done!
  17. Oh man, DD, I completely forgot about the little brush on the other end of the handle...lol. Thanks for the reminder!
  18. I've got one. I brush my car bodies before I paint them. I also use it on my models right before I photograph them. I'm not sure how to describe it but it is a super light touch. It is not meant to get stuff out of panel lines or something like that. It will take light dust particles off of the surface. Can I say with 100% certainty that you will never get dust in your paint? Nope. Do I think it works for what it is intended for? Yup.
  19. Wow, thanks, Phil! I have this one, the Tamiya 1:20 and the Tamiya 1:12. My 1:12 is the Honda RA273. I more kits than I’ll ever be able to build but I would love to get these last two built. Thank you, Helmut! I have a feeling yours will be better!
  20. I take this as high praise coming from someone with your talent! I appreciate it! Thanks for the kind words, Hans! With a name like that, I’ll take it! I need to tackle one of my more modern F1 cars. I have always loved these old cigar cars.
  21. Thanks! Thanks, Tony, the black base and background are my attempt at being artsy-fartsy…lol. I have built a couple of the Hasegawa race cars and have really enjoyed them. I appreciate it, Gary!
  22. Thank you, Pierre! Thanks, Carl! Thank you!
  23. You are really going to town on this one! I’m still cleaning parts…lol. The rolling chassis is looking good too. Question about your model and I can’t tell from the pictures, do you have a big notch above the headlight on the passenger side fender? Not just a seam line but a big ‘ol step? Mine does.
  24. Thanks, David! I appreciate it, Bruce! That is the kit decal. Now for full disclosure…lol. There were too many compound curves for that poor little decal. I used setting solutions, heat and patience. In the end it tore a little bit and the very front edge is not perfectly smooth. I used Tamiya Pure Red in their lacquer line. It was just about a perfect match. I should have represented the open scoop but thought to myself, leave well enough alone.
