  1. I was looking around in the jewelry section at Hobby Lobby for some useful items; in particular something that could be used for headlight reflectors. I spotted these little earring clips: After examining them, they looked promising so I bought a pack. Pictures tell the rest. Step 1: Step 2: And there you have it. 1/4" may be pretty close for single beams, but for round quads they should be filed down to size. Maybe for spotlights too if you filed them down a bit more. The inside is more silver than chrome but some metal polish should help that. Hope this is useful for somebody!
  2. Beautiful work - and Airtrax kits never cease to amaze me. How did you do the chrome on the bumpers?
  3. Sold for $4,000, or 0.1% of the price of the real one.
  4. Nice work! If you didn't have a cabinet, I bet you could repurpose an old sewing machine table for that - they have a dropdown panel for the machine and the top folds over to cover it, which is good if you're tight on space.
  5. I think the car they built started out as a '68; the hood, doors, windshield and decklid give it away, along with the shape of the side windows (although one side is two-door and one side is four-door). So you can start with the Jo-Han '68. Rear bumper and right taillight are '63, with a '61 fin added. Driver's side rear door looks like it was reskinned with part of a '57-'58 door.
  6. The old Revell 240Z kit had a hinged hood; check out this page from the instructions to see how they did it: http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/revell/revell_datsun_240z/6.html#media
  7. Are you going to evacuate to someplace safer, I hope?
  8. My two favorites: And I owned an '86 back in the early '90s: V-6; blew a head gasket right on schedule at 128K (I bought it with 72k so it should have already had one set replaced).
  9. Re the Nova wagon: from the "What's a hanger shot?" thread at Round2: And a new question, re the ’63 Nova wagon – are any of its other molds (interior, chassis, engine) still existing? If so it seems that the body could be saved in the same way the ’65 GTO was by restoring the rear wheel wells and re-engraving the door lines and trim. Just try to get one of those wagons now for less than $100! Thanks, Chris JohnG says: Unfortunately, we’ve looked but haven’t found any inserts for the ’63 Nova Wagon. It’s disappointing because I really like that kit too. And a new question, re the ’63 Nova wagon – are any of its other molds (interior, chassis, engine) still existing? Thanks, Chris Reply JohnG says: February 12, 2015 at 10:37 am I have not personally heard the story about the ’59 Buick being in England and have no info whatsoever. So, I can’t really comment one way or another. With the tooling changing hands several times over the decades, not a lot of info has survived to be passed on. 10. The metallic green-painted Craftsman T-bird - with molded-in skirts - in my comparison photo is light blue plastic under the paint.
  11. Note the Mannlicher rifle in the '63 Imperial - isn't that what Lee Harvey Oswald used?
  12. Yep. This one's right on the edge of savable: I've gotten it this far; it'll take a lot of careful sanding to keep from losing the emblems and trim. (By the way, did AMT get a bad run of chrome when they made the '62 Fairlane? Almost every one I've seen has very weak chrome.)
  13. Could you please post some photos of the box contents?
  14. There were two '66 T-birds; one full detail with custom options and one Craftsman. The Craftsman was from the promo tool and is the only accurate coupe version; the full kit is a convertible with a separate hardtop roof and uses the convertible interior.
  15. And if you're hunting parts for a 1/1 car, search (for example) "1978 Buick" -fits -cover; that cuts it WAY down.
  16. An obsidian jewel. Did you have a decal for the speedometer, or was it drybrushed?
  17. Unplugging this one - I thought this would be easier since the movie's had something of a revival lately: Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass with Mike Redway - Casino Royale https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io-jchlnvJM
  18. Time to pull the plug. The Contours - Baby Hit and Run This was an alternate take with Billy Gordon on lead; more hot and hard-edged than the released version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER00_iMFj4g
  19. Got back from the DuPage show a while ago; sold off a batch of model airplanes and picked up a complete Lindberg '64 Plymouth chassis, three sets of tires (including a set from the IMC Little Red Wagon/Mustang), Monogram '59 Caddy wheelcovers for my '60 Fleetwood, and this nice Crown Premiums '37 Studebaker pickup in State Farm markings (a dealer had several that had small flaws in the silver paint on the hood, so they were only $10 a pop!). The '37 Stude dealer album came from my dad; he got it about forty years ago when his company was getting rid of old stuff.
  20. Update: I worked a deal with Nova-ss for him to get the original issue '62 with the raised top; I wanted to take some close-up photos of the interior in case anyone wants to try to correct the interior in a USA Oldies reissue. Here you go: To be precise, the seat backs have 9 vertical pleats in each panel (tapering at the top to more like 7); the rear seat bottom has 23 pleats and the front seat base has 11 on either side of the folded-down armrest. Also note the ashtray in the back of the driver's seat. (The steering wheel is installed upside down and may be correct for a Dodge, but not a Plymouth, at least per the dealer brochure - an error by Jo-Han?) Some reissues of the '62 Plymouth have a '63 Plymouth dash; you can see here what needs to be corrected. Just wish I had the time and talent to do a resin repop of this interior... Hope this helps!
  21. Bill, does it involve borrowing the roof from the AMT or Revell '58 Impala?
  22. Very impressive, Cosmo - looks like it could be on the set of CHIPs, about to do a rollover from a hidden ramp while disco music blares! I like your license plates too; with correct fonts and registration stickers. How are you making them?
  23. Hmm. I have one from the AMT '62 Ford pickup, but it's single axle and I'm saving that to build a Kenskill travel trailer. Maybe if I started with the double wheel setup from the Fireball 500 trailer, and a lot of Evergreen square tube... Anyone know the overall length of these two boats?
  24. Would the trailer from the AMT Aquarod work? This one's on eBay:
  25. Fender skirts. I guess by that time extra fins were on the way out?
