  1. That's what I thought. I'm looking at the tires from the '29 roadster kit, and thinking you could get very close to duplicating the California Kid.
  2. Looking good, though I keep seeing those ZZ Top '34s and wondering what would stop anyone from swapping out the wheels and such to make a more vintage looking chopped coupe?
  3. Seeing how there's no existing C8 kit, I imagine the new tool part is implied.
  4. A mockup of a one of the old stock Monogram '36 Fords I've been working on. The paint is Humbrol Midnight Blue, though it could use some more polishing, and maybe another coat. BMF trim rings brightened up the wheels. Personally, I think it looks more like a '36 than the AMT version.
  5. Some model related items. We start seeing ads for plastic model kits in the Dec '54 issue. Good luck getting even one for ten times that price now. Revell's hot rod kit from the January '55 issue. Model contest from the June '55 issue.
  6. From the "The more things change, the more they stay the same" department: A reminder not to overreact to the things young people do, because hey, we did crazy stuff too when we were young. Veteran rodder reminds the kid how much easier they have it now. The call for traditional looking hot rods apparently started pretty early
  7. Monogram kits were always my favourites growing up. You never had to fight them like you did the Revell kits. I had my opinions about the AMT kits, but I don't feel like getting into a religious debate before I've had my coffee.
  8. Looks like Fujimi and Bandai made kits of the Impulse. It was also sold as the Isuzu Piazza, so you might have better luck searching for kits under that name.
  9. So, what's this I hear about I.F.S. on a Deuce not being "traditional"?
  10. The one on the right is definitely Pontiac, so maybe from their '66 Bonneville kit?
  11. No problem. The V-16s powering the original is IMO one of the prettiest engines ever made, though I have no idea what the quality of the kit engine is like. A great source of reference material on V-16 Cadillacs, and lots of inspiration: https://www.newcadillacdatabase.org/Historical/Automobiles/V16
  12. Nooooo, no corruption here....
  13. It looks like a rebox of the old Gakken kit.
  14. One of the things I'm loving about this archive is discovering new details about old favourites. I can tell you how many times I've seen the Polynesian custom Olds in books and magazines, but this it the first I knew about the perforated detail on the headlight and taillight trim.
  15. Considering how many imitations it's spawned, can you blame people? It's probably the most influential rod since Grabowski's T roadster. You could build something similar at any time in the next twenty years, and it would still look contemporary. Even Revell's new Deuce roadster kit has a heavy McMullen vibe.
  16. Working on one now. It's not bad, not great. About on par with the other AMT kits of that era. The wire wheels are on the thick side, but that's to be expected. You do get a fairly decent early flathead.
  17. I know there hit the shelves here in Canada, and I remember they were priced more in line with Revell Germany's products at the time. I did pick one up, but it has since been lost in a move.
  18. According to Scalemates, it did have a release in '91
  19. And because this is a model car forum, some pretty impressive scratchbuilding.
  20. Something about this channeled roadster from the Dec '52 issue that I just really like. Maybe something to think ab out if you're looking to do something a little different with Revell's Deuce roadster?
  21. It's purely a conceptual design, so you're probably out of luck. It is based on a GMC engine, so maybe a Chevy 6 with some scratchbuilt mods?
  22. A few "hot rod of the future" concepts have popped up in HRM and other magazines over the years, and here's one for a competition roadster from August of '52. As far as I know, nobody ever got around to making a DOHC head for a GMC 6, though other GM engines would prove to be very popular in the coming years. Fiberglass T bodies did become a thing in the next decade, as did the rise in popularity of alloy wheels among the hot rod set.
