Other model car forums
Richard Bartrop replied to ColonelKrypton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We can no longer be friends now. Seriously, TCM used to have a spot in its forum for people to rage about politics and such with the idea that people would get it out of their system and not bother the rest of the board. It turned into a roaring bonfire of hate and stupid, and eventually TCM got rid of the whole forum. -

Exactly this. I get it, there's an election coming up, and some people have to push the product, and they have quotas to fill, but surely it's all right to leave a few small corners of the internet where we can take a break from it? -

A model car forum with an emphasis on vintage subjects. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/automotion/ -
I'm glad they kept the original parts in "Granny's" hot rod. There's so much kitbashing potential there.

opening 32 ford roadster doors
Richard Bartrop replied to Paul Payne's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I suppose it depends on what kind of roadster you're building. If it's stock, or a fendered rod, glue the body to the fenders for reinforcement. If you're making a channeled roadster, you're going to have a gap between the floor and the bottom of the door anyhow, so add the filler panel to the body. Even on a stock '32 Ford, the doors don't go all the way down, so maybe glue a length of brass strip to the sill? -
What did you see on the road today?
Richard Bartrop replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can see some nice cars cruising 4th Street in Calgary during the summer, so I had lunch at one of the many cafes on the street to see if I could photograph a few. -
"New" AMT '34 Ford 5-Window Coupe
Richard Bartrop replied to Snake45's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Too bad. I'm guessing even the ZZ Top version with maybe some different wheels would go over well? -

Maybe time to start talking nice to the good folks at Revell? -
So, we're looking at the granddaddy of all CVTs.

Not going to lie, that price is making me pause. It'll probably be in three figure range by the time it hits the shelves here, which is about what some of the Tamiya kits are going for here. Of course, if they're going for that market, they'd better have the Tamiya level quality. I do like the subject, but I'll have to see what the kit is actually like before dropping that kind of money. Now if Salvinos ever decides to do some Indy cars from the roadster era, that would definitely have my interest.

Origin of MPC 32 Imperial
Richard Bartrop replied to keyser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That was one of the reasons I liked the classic kits over most of the contemporary offerings, that the kitmakers always seemed to put more effort into them. -
The Red Devil - Jo-han Cadillac Sport Phaeton
Richard Bartrop replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Attached the taillights and luggage rack. THe luggage rack is painted the body colour with the ribs highlighted with a Molotow pen. THe running boards got BMF, and the wood inserts were done in Tamiya flat brown with some clear orange to simulate the wood grain. . A little alcohol on a paper towel was used to pick out the raised detail. I finally tackled refinishing the stone guard by using BMF. An artist's blending stump turns out to be great for working the foil into all the nooks and crannies. This was followed by by Tamiya flat black, and some alcohol to clean off the raised mesh.. -

By that logic, Chevrolet is French? -
One of the Local hobby stores here has started selling them, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them?

Nice choice on the wheels and tires, though aren't the T-Bird wheels almost identical?
-
That's the '32 Imperial. The '33 was made by Italeri.
-
Maybe go with something like brass for the suspension?
-
That turned out really nice!

But there was still 1/32 everything else, like airplanes, but like I said, it's already been decided
