  1. thanks everyone, I'm happy with how it turned out. I was a little unsure when I first cracked open the kit and saw the hood....did not know how it was going to go at that point, and then the colors I chose seemed a bit different but it seems to have worked out ok. now I am wishing I did the trailer green...........lol.
  2. wow, you are amazing! the build, the background and the photography are all top notch! excellent stuff
  3. ah, got ya. I will have to remember that, that's a great idea, thanks.
  4. well, it's done. wasn't sure my green colors were going to go together, but I think it turned out pretty good looking. I have a gavel trailer about 3/4 done that will be paired with this rig, will update pic's when that gets completed. so, here it is,
  5. Jeff, that's a great idea, my only problem with doing that is figuring the height of the whole mirror, as I am building each of these kits for the first time, and the destructions are vague as far as placement, I'd hate to get the mirror bracket too low on the door. Anthony, yes I do, are you hinting at pinning parts? thanks for the ideas guys, I did get them together and mounted on the truck. I went with Carls super glue suggestion, and opened a white western star kit to use the cab for reference. I started by gluing the mirror itself into the C frame, then glued that to the lower bracket, then added the upper bracket. before it 'set', I let it tack up, then set it on the other cab [had the cab propped up on it's side so it was 'level'] so I could get the mirror assembly close to a proper fit, then let it dry. here is where I ended up, I managed to finish up the truck today, still need to complete the trailer, but look for an under glass thread soon....
  6. Carl, hadn't thought of using super glue, might give that a try. Sam, helping hands? what is this? some sort of 'clamping' device? or do you have your kids hold the parts until glue is dry?
  7. Terry, fantastic work. that is one tough looking rig! great details as well, keep it up
  8. Corey, great haul of kits! some interesting stuff in that stash
  9. I will try to make a point of bringing them home Monday, and measure it up. funny part is, I had them at home for forever during my mack build, as I used them to scale the frame extension for the logging trailer, then forgot to take them back to work...... my mind goes from 100mph to slack jawed mouth breather in a matter of seconds, lol.
  10. Hobby Lobby, quite possibly Gods gift to hobbies lol, relax, kidding folks. I love the place myself. they have what I want, they have stuff I didn't know I wanted. it's a great store in my opinion. I have yet to be bludgeoned by religious stuff, and not even sure the store I frequent plays music. when I go there, I am on a mission, hit the kit isle, then wander looking for clearance items [have scored a ton of deals], then wander the rest of the isles looking for junk that will work for other than intended use [i.e. how can I adapt this to model building?] I gotta admit, I must not have hit the 'religion' isle yet, as all the stuff I see there is pretty cool, and they seem to cover a lot of hobbies. my biggest complaint [as a chevy fan] is they have too much ford stuff again, just kidding, the selection of metal signage they have is way cool, and every now and again, all that stuff is 50% off. for me, the place is a win/win. your mileage may vary.
  11. Danny, took 7 re-certs and passed them all keeps me master certified for a total of 20 years now. also have light diesel cert [although I don't really know jack about them, and don't work on them much, but had to have the cert for work]. Tom, I am a paint junkie, for color selection.....I usually get 2 cans of each color [just in case I need to put a body in the pond], and yes, I get several variations of color as well. never know when panzer gray is gonna click with a paint scheme
  12. I forgot to bring my calipers home this weekend,[read this at work, and was gonna bring them home, but as it's Friday, I was in a hurry to get out the door] if you can wait a couple days, I can measure my kit and pass along the measurements.
  13. ....dear revell, I am missing some wheels and tires, kit calls for 8, I have 6, what gives? thanks for any help.......
  14. ok, I need some help here. these mirrors are a pain in the butt. any ideas on how to assemble them without wrecking my paint work? so far, I have one mirror glued to the C frame, and have the rest of the parts for that mirror cleaned up and chrome 'scraped' in the proper areas for gluing, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out a way to get them together without wrecking something. any thoughts??
  15. Cliff, we are a bunch of similarly minded folks here, we love models, building them, buying them, trading parts and offering help and advice. everyone here is willing to help each other out in anyway we can. it's not charity, it's paying it forward, as i am sure most of us here have got stuff from other members just because we asked for, or mentioned we were looking for something. trust me, look around here and it'll soon become apparent that we all help where and when we can. almost forgot to mention, welcome to the forum
  16. looks great KJ, and congrat's on the new place
