  1. thanks guys 'it' has a 'face' now, lot of little stuff to do, but it's in the home stretch now
  2. looks great O
  3. KJ, good thinking on the stripe color first, that does sound like it would be a lot easier, and way less masking Anthony, love that truck!
  4. I absolutely love this! beautiful work
  5. I don't sand between coats, unless I get a bunch of dust/junk in the paint. I usually let the actual base color dry/cure pretty good, otherwise you get tape residue [then ya gotta wet sand] when you un mask. I usually get in a hurry and just let the first coat of clear tack up for 20 minutes, then shoot my second color, if it covers well, i'll unmask it in 20-30 minutes and let it cure from there. I should wait longer though, as sometimes when I peel the tape off, the top coat and clear are a bit 'stringy' and will sometimes cause some of the paint line to not be crisp. best bet is to experiment on a body and get the 'feel' for it. took me a few tries to get where I can repeat the process without catastrophic failure, lol.
  6. nothing to it really. paint the white first, paint the whole body. let that dry/cure. after it's cured, mask off the white parts you want to keep, and clear coat the whole thing, let that dry, but not completely cure, then paint the dark color, let that dry for a day or so, then un mask it. after that is fully dry/cured, mask off the area you want stripes, clear it again, let that dry a day or so, then paint the red, let it dry a bit, then un mask. when fully dry, clear it again, and you're done. I do my two tones this way. I also use lacquer paint, dry times will be longer for enamel. if nothing else, try it out on something else, worst case, it goes into the pond to strip the paint. the clear coats help keep the colors from bleeding thru into one another. here are a few examples, give it a try, you'll be glad you did.
  7. thank you Jeff, I just try to do the best I can. I finally got one of those new ray excavators the other day, so, just for kicks, I tossed it onto a trailer I built awhile ago, and 'hooked' it to the in progress road boss to see how it all looked. plans are to detail the excavator [eventually], and ultimately the trailer will be hooked to the DAF 'cattleman' truck [again, when I get around to that one], so anyway, here's a look, hope to make progress on the truck this weekend if yard work doesn't get in the way....
  8. love it, great work on the wheels! thanks for the tip on the lights, woulda never thought to do that, will incorporate that on something eventually.
  9. you could mask it off and paint them on.
  10. this thing is saweet! love the paint job, holy smokes that's pretty!! great work with the alclad as well, and thanks for the tips on applying it.
  11. wow, quite the collection! now, who's going to trade me an autocar for something I have kicking around? I have yet to get one of those, or an Alaskan hauler....they seem to be elusive............[not elusive, but expensive as heck.....]
  12. ya, it can get out of control quick....just ask me how I know, lol. don't worry, as long as you have a kit, some basic supplies and somewhere to work, it's all good......cause you're building.
  13. just like models in a way, stashed in a hoard never to be built and yes, some cool looking stuff
  14. that was neat, thanks for posting that.
  15. yesterdays score, hit michaels craft store with a 25% off entire purchase coupon, low and behold, all these kits were on sale for cheap, vette kits were $6 each, super birds were $10 each and the others were $8 and $9 each, then toss on the 25% off and by golly we got a bargain also hit hobby lobby and got a buick gsx and a 50 olds on clearance....
  16. looking good, should turn out quite nice. I just bought another one for the stash, can never have too many trucks
  17. i agree with everyone else, that is a beauty of build. your weathering is fantastic on everything.
  18. this is really coming along nice, looks beat up......perfect!
  19. Bill, cannot wait to see these in person!
  20. Terry, I think we are all going to your place, we will bring supplies [paint/glue/food/beverages/campers] and we will have a weekend build......you just have to provide one kit per person [and some space for campers/tents ]
  21. great build! looks awesome Bill. guys, I've seen the truck in person, and it is dynamite, I can't wait to see the trailer and excavator in person at the next local show.
  22. I feel better now, most of any one kit I have is 3 copies, I do usually end up with two of each just incase I really mess one up and need a part.
  23. there are some incredibly talented builders here, it's always a treat to see what some of these folks build, just amazing stuff.
  24. Clayton, I have the same problem, a few done, and a few left to build..... so, let's see everyone elses 'to do' pile, lol.
