  1. well, I see what you mean now. I cleaned up the cab and that panel, and have it glued in. tomorrow night will be my first adventure with body putty..........this should be good....rotflmao.....
  2. thanks, that's where I found the reference pic's, I never thought to ask over there about the colors.
  3. every time I drive something with a cvt in it, I think it's slipping, lol. just can't get used to the feel of them.
  4. thanks for the tip, although I wish I would have read this about 15 minutes ago, lol. only have the first mist of paint on it, so I guess my next step is going to be assembling that before anymore paint. thanks again.
  5. thanks. the dash was hand painted with a teeny tiny brush and a magnifying glass. i couldn't paint the needles though, maybe on the next one....
  6. exactly, that's why i couldn't do it. but as i said, awesome car, just couldn't hit the price point to be viable for me [even with the 'tax break' originally offered.
  7. highway, i hear ya man, i had thought of spraying some of the paint i used into a dish/bowl so i could touch up the cab attachment points, and i shoulda touched up the battery box points with something. never even thought of the tires....... i guess i was so excited to be at the finishline on this, i overlooked a few more things. as i said, i see a ton of stuff i could do better, and that's ok, now i have a base line to work off of. thanks for all the comments folks, i aspire to be as good a builder as many of you are now, this is the first step.....
  8. thanks, looks way better in the sun than it did in my building hovel, lol.
  9. thanks for the kind words, i am pleased with how it turned out.
  10. that's why i said it's a great city car, range is rather limited on pure battery. i almost leased one, i took one home one day, on a full charge i got from work to home and back again [almost 40 miles]. at the time, i figured i could plug it in at work, and fuel-wise i could drive for free. just couldn't pull the trigger though
  11. it's a shame the volt was so much money, that car was packed with so much technology, and is a great city vehicle. I don't just say this willy-nilly, I work for a chevy dealer, and took a ton of training for the service/repair of the volt. great idea, pretty good execution, just missed the price point a bit [ok, a lot]. I was like everyone else when it came out, until I drove one and took the training, it's an awesome automobile! I too am a bit set back by the e-assist set up, as it doesn't make much sense to me [makes sense, just doesn't seem practical for real world experience]. I do feel eventually electric or electric assist vehicles will be the norm, we tend to repeat history, I think it was in the early 1920's that city fleet delivery trucks were battery powered, I remember seeing pics of AA trucks with a battery of batteries under the chassis.
  12. making progress, took a lot of casting lines off of the hood, it looks good in primer. I scribed the cab panel lines, and blackwashed [first time doing such], and after primer I can see a difference in how it stands out. I have most of the trailer parts painted, and all of them have spent about 4 hours in the dehydrator, so tomorrow will be cab/hood sanding, then maybe some color. here is where I am at now, I decided to do the cab and hood first this time around, as I feel this is the hardest part of the build, you know, trying to get the paint right. if that comes out ok, the rest seems easy. Jim B also pointed out that I will need to extend the truck frame after the rear axles, as I have only managed an OOB build so far, what are my options materials-wise? never 'scratch built' anything before, so suggestions are welcome, I don't really know what's available out there to use to dream up stuff. as always, thanks for reading, and all help is appreciated.
  13. I have in the stash a CF tandem trailer kit, and a white-freightliner SD truck to pull it. I have found some good reference pic's on them, but i'm wondering what 'colors' would be a close match? ya, I know, green and red, but what are the actual green and red 'names'? thanks for any help you can provide. if it helps, i'm looking for the 60's/70's solid green cab paint scheme color.
  14. that's amazing, I can hardly follow the instructions on these models, and your slinging plastic from an idea in your head, well done, well done!
  15. looks great, another fine addition to the fleet. I gotta ask though, did you get a few cases of orange paint at some point?? [please take that as kidding around, I do like your orange fleet ]
  16. I got them from freds model world, I happened to be out in buffalo NY for work, and I met up with him. I paid $190 for all 4 of them, I thought that was a smoking deal. the auto transporter was open, but sealed inside, the other 3 were still factory sealed. I figure that was my home run shopping trip of the year.
  17. looking good, can't wait to see this one finished.
  18. next up is a mack r model and peerless log trailer. I learned a lot on this first build, so with luck the next one should be a little better. and thanks for all the kind words, was a fun build [other than the paint stripping portion, haha]
  19. well, this will be my second attempt, stay tuned.... this, with this and the start, cab is sanded and scribed, and some parts tree priming,
  20. if I have inspired you, my job is done here, lol. you build some great looking rigs! thanks for the kind words.
  21. done, and under glass as it were.
