When I get it in the mail I'll open it up and shoot some pics. There's no chrome in the kit but from what I remember as a kid it wasn't hurting for detail OOB.

Man that camper looks like a great find Brad! Lots of opportunity for detail with that one!! Kevin: Lookin' forward to seeing the outcomes of those kits. I picked this up this morning off of Ebay for $75.00 to include shipping. These kits were rare in the fact that they were only made for one year in 1978 so they go for $150+ nowadays. I had one as a kid and always wanted a second shot at one. Looks like I've got one now.,,,,, A different set of wheels and tires, some cool 1/25 scale accessories and some Alclad here and there.......

Hey John. Yeah it was soley the shape. Just wouldn't fit. I did manage to cut another fender well out, removed the protective coating with steel wool, sanded it down using the typical 3200grit -12000 grit sanding pads and polished it up. I have Doobie to be thankful to for pointing me in the right direction with this. Thanks Dave! Sometimes the very basics are simply overlooked. Had the winning lottery ticket in my hand the whole time and didn't cash it in. lol I think I'm going to like this ALOT better: Then I cleaned up the hood emblems, painted the low lying areas and shot a coat of gloss clear over each one.

Great work for 2 hours worth. I'd be barely getting done with the sprue washing and cutting the first part from them in two hours.

Looks good. Really good!!!! I like that shine you've pulled off on the body. -
Thanks Carl! John: It does come with fenderwells but they wont fit right because I chose to glue the firewall to the frame and not the cab(the way the instructions show to). If would have glued the firewall to the cab I would have had a nasty gap to contend with in the interior flooring. This way I avoided that gap but induced another issue which I'm addressing this way. I've seen a guy use Arizona Tea Cans (I credit a fella named Fermis for this trick) this way to fabricate PE for aircraft projects so I figured , "What the hek." I'll use the idea for automotive subjects.

I was at the point the other day to where I was going to install those inner wheel wells that I had been working on a couple of months ago and the suckers wouldn't fit. All that work to them and the body could not be installed with them in place. I had pondered the idea of leaving them out but that looked cheap and unfinished. The initial thoughts to remedy this started here.... Followed by some action with cutting out a part that resembled the plastic piece except only from the firewall forward. So far I'm liking the results. In the foreground you can see what the lack of the inner fender wells makes the engine compartment look like and the update on my "test mule". (This is the same blue body that I started out with. I stripped most of the blue off it with brake fluid) I managed to get the R/H side cut out and formed this morning. More shots with the test mule... Now I'm at the point to where I don't know if I want to Alclad them or cover the inner sides with Chrome BMF. I still have some learning to go with Chrome Alclad......we'll see....

I don't think many people could argue the fact that this is a truly great build. Words just don't seem to cut it here John. What I continue to find amazing is your magnificent application of Alclad. It's a skill I hope to master as well as you have. -
Lookin' good. I just love these Cuda's.

I love watching builds like this. I really can't wait to see how this all turns out.

This thing is coming together real good. Great work thus far JC!

That looks like a good idea on that convertible top. Hmmm.

Thanks for the good word Brian. Before I test fitted the fire extinguisher in place I had to modify the fuel tank behind the drivers seat as it was just too wide and the fire extinguisher would not have fit in the corner of the cab behind the drivers seat. I ended up sectioning a part out of it. I wasn't too awful worried about a perfect job here as this part of the fuel tank will never be able to be seen. Now I can move the whole thing over towards the passenger side a smidgen and the extinguiser'll be able to fit in that corner.

Thank you Dave! And the registration decals are on............................. The top of the plate is a little uneven but there aint no way to see it with normal vision. I need 1.5x corrected vision normally and I couldn't tell with the glasses on. I did some more work on the passenger door hinges as far as paint goes but progress was a little slow this morning.

Still watchin' & still admirin'...........

Thanks for the comments fellas. I'll be working on a remedy for the paint but in the meantime I had it pointed out to me on another forum politely that I didn't have any registration decals on the license plate which I had totally overlooked. I've got the decals cut out and will be applying those tomorrow morning. I've also got another front bumper coming from Revell. After three freekin' bumpers the 1st one had a bunch of dots in it, the 2nd one had injector pin marks from hell in it and the 3rd had the chrome finish worn off from the high points/ corners. I was going to alclad the front and rear bumpers but decided not to as I'm still working on scrap pieces trying to perfect the "chrome" finish. I must've got lucky on the wheels is all I gotta say. As for the fire extinguisher I've got that underway as well. In looking at the pictures it looks like I need a light wash to bring out the detail where the nozzle area is. I'll be taking care of that tomorrow as well. I BMF'd the retaining straps this morning and folks I'll tell you this. Trimming BMF is one thing but when you're doing it on a magnet and it keeps wanting to pull the X-Acto blade towards the magnet it makes it that much more difficult. By having a drill bit in the bottom of the extinguisher I was able to hold the extinquisher still while making the cuts. Anyways here we are so far with that...

Have you ever reached a point in modeling where you're just confident enough to be dangerous? It's happening to me here on this build I'll tell you that. I started out with the body and hood paint and the hood didn't turn out just right so I dunked the hood in the brake fluid and pressed on with the body and the rest of the build thinking "Hey, I'll just catch up with the hood on down the road in this build. Through a lot of persistence I've got the body about where I want it and the hood has progressed through 4 paint jobs to get to where it is now. Here's the problem though .............. I didn't paint everything TOGETHER. The hood is a different shade of red than the rest of the truck. Not by much , but it's noticeable. I'm going to end up trying to polish this thing out and see where I stand after ALOT of buffing. The "look" that I was after in the beginning of this build has taken form so I'm very happy with that so far but I'll tell you, this hood ordeal has really got me in a perplexed state right now. I really don't feel like dunking this hood in brake fluid............again. The pics: (the roughness at the front of the hood isn't a big deal as I'll buff it all out. If you look close enough you'll see the shade difference)
