Jo-Han Maverick-Dyno Don's Ride

Another thing that this kit is totally lacking in is the proper engine bay. I turned to the 67 Mustang kit for this since it's a fairly close match. On the right is an OOB engine bay in my other Maverick. After some mods and some trimming I've got the initial fit obtained. It's workable and looks like it should do the trick after some more fancy footwork. -

This one Kevin? -
That's the one. With a couple of mods it works out great. First off its a little too long but by shortening it roughly 5/16" it fits great.

Initially I thought the same thing about the size. But the more I looked at the photo shots of the restored car the more they began to look the part. I'll be going with the restored car look so the Eagles are what I'll be going with( just really like the brutal look of it like that) BUT....I do have another Maverick that I'll be going period correct with so the tire diameter as well as the wheels will be more along those lines. Mike I do want to thank you for dropping in. I appreciate your comments. -

No problem Kevin. Glad I could help. Ok gang....I managed to get the wheels coated in Molotow and the tires all decaled and completed. I didn't use the front wheels with the Molotow on them in the following pictures because this stuff has a minimum cure out of 48 hours. The rears I could handle somewhat because of the dish in the wheels but here's where we're at right now with the wheels/ tires. and then I found my headers that are going to give me the perfect clearance. I just cut the flanges off of them and modified the header extensions on the Jo-Han headers to match up with the headers and we're all set. Another major hurdle of this build overcome. -

Been working on this thing all week long. Starting to get googly eyed.... Oil filter, starter, bellhousing and transmission have all been painted up and installed. Working on the intake area of the build now which is where all the details are going to be. Stuff like ignition wiring, throttle linkage, fuel lines and all the mumbo jumbo stuff that goes in there.... All test fitted together with a set of carbs that I have in the stash. Proper carbs will go on top when I get 'em in the mail.... and for test fitting the engine into the frame to check out header options, header to frame clearances and general fit..... so I don't damage or mess up any of the details that I'm building here I've got another 427 that came in a glue bomb Maverick that I got in the mail that's undergoing a restoration/ transformation. -
I've never seen a Firebird done up like this with the plain wheels and all but I can tell you that I do like it very much. Definitely different from the norm but again, you've made this one look great!!!

Thanks Kevin. Hopefully I can pull all of this together. I've been haggling over the tires for the last couple of weeks and after LOTS of research, going through photo shots and doing ALOT of measuring and head scratching I've come up with a new set of slicks that I'm going to use for this thing. Additionally I was concerned with how the front ride height was going to be but once I test fitted everything into place...…….it pretty much fell into place. I might go just a tad lower in the front but I'm pretty happy that I don't have to do much here as this has been quite the gaggle in the way of mods on this car. This is the way this car is going to look now and it seems like it's a lot closer to the reference photos that I have of this car. The wheels have been a source of much contemplation and decision making as well but I finally found a set that I will be happy with. Just gotta strip the chrome off of the front wheels and apply either Alclad or Molotow. I'll play around with both and see which one looks better. For now, however, this is progress for me so I can move forward with this thing. Reference shot: Updated parts and stance-I'll be bringing the rear tires in a tad/ wee bit as well. This is all a FAR cry from the way I had it: -
I simply cannot get over all of this great aluminum work that you're doing here Tim!! Simply beautiful work.

Clean build Bob!

That paint is just fabulous and that's not even counting the detail work. You really turned out quite the masterpiece here Bill.

Turned out great! Thumbs up all the way here!

Terrific lookin' Willys. Don't see the panel vans being built much so this is a good change up.

Lookin' good so far Kevin. You could drill out those instrument dials and come in from the back side with blank sheets of styrene and use decals for the actual gauges. A drop of clear over the gauges after installing will look great. Here's what I did on my Challenger: -

It certainly looks like you've got some solid time invested with these. 60 hours on the bodies alone.....WOW! No wonder these look good. -
Color and stance are perfect and has a good aggressive look to it.
