Thanks for the comments and input fellas! Almost done with this one. Still working on the hood. Thought I had it all ironed out and then I burned through the paint while wet sanding it. Oops!! Repairs in progress......

Jo-Han Maverick-Dyno Don's Ride
mustang1989 replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Welp…..about all I've got left to do on the General Lee build is to paint the hood. So...….while I'm waiting on the paint to dry to start wet sanding that.....I've started on the Maverick. Chopped up the Mustang chassis and will have to shorten it around 5/16" to get the length right and to move the front tires where I'll want 'em at. I've cut up the back end of the chassis and removed the transmission "hump" to allow the OOB Maverick interior to slide into place alright. Test fit of where I'm at right now. Still gotta move the rear tires inwards a little bit and re-attach the shortened front subrame back to the chassis. -
I really like what you're doing with this car. I have to ask.....where did you get your aluminum wheels from?

Man......this outta be quite the show. Will be watching this one Art! -
I’ve got one of these in the stash and think these are some of the coolest kits ever. I may have to big block it though!?

Thanks Pete, John, Dave and Jerry! I appreciate all the great comments and thank you for dropping in. I also want to thank you for the kind words on my ol' buddy Bear everyone. Our other dog Josie now joins me in the room....although she is not nearly as patient as Bear was. Jerry: You know.....I've really given some great thought to that part of this car. I am NOT a fan of that guard but do understand and appreciate the significance of it on the front a GL. I am, however, a Charger fan first so I don't know if I'll put it on there.

Very cool build Wayne!!! Glad to see you around buddy!!!

Thank you for the comments Dann, Charlie, Leroy and Dave! Dave: You know that's something I never really looked at till you pointed it out. Can't go back and change it now but I do have to say that the dash fit into the interior tub precisely where and how it was supposed to. It was something I didn't question at the time but you do bring up a good point bud. I didn't like the kit supplied exhaust tips and decided to fabricate my own out of aluminum tubing. I angle cut a stalk, cleaned both sides up and polished them and then cut them to length and installed. Still gotta add the black soot to the insides of the pipes but I'm fairly happy with this result.

Progress is looking good so far Logan. I've used both the foil and the pen on interior door panels and have gotten satisfactory results from both. I do have to say that you tend to get the allowance of a "do-over" with the foil. Just my two cents.

Thanks Dann. Ok......I've been throwing everything I've got at this one for the last week and haven't made very much progress on it but it's been a lot of little things that all add up to the bigger picture. Engine bay is......finished!! And I've got everything done here except for some work on the hood, some R/T badges, windshield wiper install and custom exhaust tips.

Interior is coming together nicely Dann. I like all the additions. They're really gonna set that area of the build off and be a nice showcase to the model since it's all an open view.

Jo-Han Maverick-Dyno Don's Ride
mustang1989 replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Niko!! There's no way that I can let this one just sit there. I guess I could always get the money for it but I couldn't charge as much as what I've seen 'em go for. I've got more of a conscience than that. -

Thanks Rich. I was on the fence about which one I wanted to build as there are a few different options out there but this one looked pretty "safe" to me. I've gotta get the name of the fella that I ordered the set that I do have from . I didn't see this set on Slixx the other day when I looked. Thanks for your help though Mark. -

That looks VERY good!!! Something different for sure.

I haven't done a race car in I don't know how long but I've had this Jo-Han Maverick in my stash for a couple of years and wanted to build it but didn't know what theme I was going with until I saw Don Nicholson's ride. I knew right away that I HAD to build it....and so.....along with my re-intro here I'll give this my best shot. The kit (I bought this kit a couple of years back for $50......you don't want to know what it goes for these days....WOW!!) The Subject:

I really like "non-traditional" stuff JC. Lookin' good man.

Thanks Dann. Spent a little more time on the grille early this morning. Managed to get the other hole cut out and smooth out those ejector pin marks....
-
Wow!!! This is a really cool project Ray. That is indeed funny about the cost of the 1:1 scale car versus the model kit. Puts things into perspective pretty quick. lol
-
LOL!!! I'm to the point that I'm now working on the grille/ front end of this bad boy. I can't really fit anything into the engine bay as far as the radiator core support (which has now been extensively modified to fit. Don't ask folks....I really don't know what happened with the fit of everything up front. All parts were test fitted prior to even painting and it all fit perfect. Now ...the front fenders have to be spread in the front some to get the brace and hood to fit. Weird. As far as the grille goes, there's some more mods that I'm doing. Looks like the inserts from the MPC kit turned around backwards fit perfectly in the openings that I cut out of the grille. I've still got some filling and sanding to do to get rid of those nasty ejector pin marks but that's not really a worry of mine. I cut the PE grille inserts out and test fitted. Looks like it's all a "go" at this point. One more side to go...…..

These kits are already all that and a bag of party mix right out of the box. Anything you're gonna do to this is only gonna make It that much better.
