  1. I know builders that only work on their models during the colder winter weather and choose to work on real cars or spend their time outdoors when the weather's nice. Totally understandable.
  2. Glad you're enjoying your time viewing all the inspirational stuff posted here. These forums are also a great source of advise and for finding those special parts you need.
  3. Welcome back, there's no better way to spend your time while your glue and/or paint is drying(I have some micro crystal clear drying right now holding some Windows in place).
  4. Great build that checks all three of my gotta have boxes to be cool....low,black and fast !!
  5. I saw a red 2018 Hellcat parked at a motel in Columbus,Oh. It had a dealers for sale sheet laying on the dash stating for sale" as is,no warranty" which makes me wonder why. Thrashed too hard?
  6. The nice policeman could be chatting with them for any number of reasons. He may be a friend who like cool rides, or it could be a reminder about no fenders or possibly open exhaust laws.
  7. So Johnny let me see if I have this right....you built this kit while inside a closet somewhere ? I hope you had a really good flashlight :-)
  8. Great concept. Very nicely done. Quite possibly the only LSR vehicle to go 200+ mph and still get over 50 mpg doing it :-)
  9. What an unexpected result of having some families who had sufficient funds to afford these vehicles in a time when the USA was in the depths of a great depression. Without them there would not been a market for these magnificent creations.
  10. This is going to be fun and instructive to watch the destruction happen. Thanks for sharing.
  11. beautifully done thus far. I.ll be watching with great intrest.
  12. Thanks guys. This was my first attempt at a full body in the metalizer so I was not that familiar with the potential pitfalls of clear coating.I( have decided to sand a little and repaint. To achieve a little darker color than the aluminum gives I am spraying it over Krylon gloss black. Of course I did the spoon test first using white, gray and black base coats and the black will give me what I am looking for(if it ever quits raining that is).
  13. I finally got to the paint stage on my latest project, a drag themed chopped '54 IH Metro bread sled van. I applied some decent Testors aluminum plate metallized first. That dried for a couple hours then I buffed it per can instructions then applied their metalizer sealer and let that dry. I decided that was not enough gloss so I applied a coat of their clear goalscorer # 1261. To my great disappointment that dried to a flat finish. I applied a second coat with the same end result.....no gloss at all. Now what do I do...wait for lower humidity and give it another coat,or..sand then recoat,or... strip it to the resin and start over?
  14. Thanks for posting the crystal clear photos of these vintage units. The side damage to that Mayflower trailer shouts narrow roads and wide trailers. There is surely inspiration there for those forum readers wanting to build a period perfect tractor and trailer rig.
  15. Thanks for the link.Ouch on the price! Does anyone have one of these they don't plan on using that they would like to trade? I have a stash deep with vintage kits that are available.
  16. This is gonna be a real Freak! Love everything about it. Can you post a link to the Shapeways source for that radial engine? Thanks for sharing.
  17. Great model woodie. Looks like the real car that inspired the build. Thanks for sharing.
  18. Any rear view photos available?
  19. Are you going to be detailing the engine with wiring and plumbing? If so where will you find the information on how to do it properly?
  20. On a rare visit to a "real" hobby shop in Columbus,Ohio recently I was browsing in the Tamiya tool section and spotted their part number 74017-400. That is a set of two metal paint stirrers. They are 6" long with one flat paddle style surface on one one and very narrow spoon shaped other end.I have a project on my workbench right now with some challenging areas where putty application is awkward at best. I can't get the putty in place using any of my normal methods due to space restrictions so this looked like a viable solution. These are not cheap at $ 8.00 a pair but are working perfectly. Check them out as they might also work for you.
  21. Thanks Snake, one if those links lead me to some information from Chevrolet giving me a lot of dimensional information including the 7" top chop, the 4" stretch, overall height, width and wheelbase. Those measurements will help a lot.
  22. I want to build a replica of a Canepa built Chopped Chevy HHR Bonneville race car. I have one calender page with some photos of it but am looking for more information. I remember seeing a rather extensive article on it several years ago showing the construction phases of the car as the body was being built. That article showed the body being chopped and stretched. I have a couple Flintstone HRR' s to cut up for the project but would really like to have more reference material first. Any help appreciated.
  23. I will be watching this build closely as I have been saving magazine articles featuring it and planning a similar project myself. I looked for an engine a year or so ago with no luck so I moved on to something else. The interior of the real truck is going to be a big challenge in itself with all of the aircraft inspired details. Good luck. I look forward to all of your updates.
  24. Looking very realistic and very well photographed as well. Can you post a link to the Mexican blanket design you used??
