  1. I got anxious last night and started on the Bronco finally. I am using the snap tite jeep wheels and tires which look phenomenal on just about anything! Started by trying to guess the height in which I wanted the thing to sit... so since I wanted to use the stock suspension/axles... I needed to modify the I beam setup.. which was a pain because the plastic in this kit is EXTREMELY brittle for some reason... no give at all. So, that being said I snapped quite a few parts last night. Got em all glued back together though thanks to zap a gap. It sits a little tweaked because I don't have springs in place yet, and the frame is a little warped right out of the box. After the front got close to where I wanted it I decided to make some shackles for the back of the leaf springs.. that was fairly easy. So this should be final stance provided everything else goes well
  2. I checked ebay yesterday. 1 kit for 40+ dollars. No way. Don't need one that bad.
  3. Well... nuts. Hardly any stores carry model king stuff and so I could never find one. Oh well. Maybe Moebius will eventually have an all-inclusive kit with all those parts... would be nice.
  4. I have 4 builds on the bench that are stalled... Might have to pull the bronco out. I robbed some wheels/tires from the snap tite jeep rubicon... because they're 5 lug. But have the awesome tires. Although I'm starting overtime this week... I won't have any weeknights for probably 6 months. And my weekends will be jam packed with things I can't do during the week... Here goes another unfinished Cannonball.... lol
  5. Were all of them limited productions??
  6. All of the sudden I can't seem to find them anywhere unless it's really expensive... Discontinued already? Or did I miss something?
  7. Very cool!
  8. I love that game. Play it way more than I probably should. Love the idea for the build. I've been wanting to do something like this for a while too. The Revell snap tite jeep has some really nice offroad tires, and you can get em cheap at a hobby lobby with your coupons.
  9. Gorgeous build!
  10. Looking good! I'm taking notes
  11. I have a Bad Actor kit... I never noticed. I'll have to take a look.
  12. Thanks folks. And I'm not sure Carl. All I got off ebay was the chassis and engine bits.
  13. A little update on this one... I stopped messing around on trying to figure which engine I wanted to go with and settled on a good ol flathead V8. However in order to make it fit, I needed to extend the frame. Unfortunately I didnt take any pictures of that. But what I did take pics of was my homemade suicide front axle mount. Which was a tad bit wide, but it looks good enough for me. And was a real pain so I don't want to mess with it anymore after nearly ruining it. So this is basically ride height now. OH, I also chopped down the front windshield frame and put it back together. Looks a ton better. Here's the wheel and tire combo for it The rears will have trim rings too once I find some. I also started crafting a floorpan for it. Which is hard! I'm wanting to make a bare interior for it so I'm working on building interior panels.
  14. Saw this little beauty at a swap meet recently in Columbus, Ohio and had to have it. I've never seen a 2dr Monaco in real life and really liked the looks of this thing. It was mostly complete so I picked it up after a little haggling. It used to be purple and faded to gray! I opted to swap out the stock chassis for an MPC roadrunner chassis I got off ebay because the exhaust wasn't molded in, and it had the rearend/exhaust separate. Which looks better. I also got some extra Starsky & Hutch Torino wheels for that 70's look. The tires are from the Revell 3 window coupe (with the lettering) and really set this thing off. I'm not using the Hemi in this build, but will be using the 440 that came with the Roadrunner parts. Going for a sort of "day 2" look. Here it is as I got it It will see the purple dip soon to get the purple/gray paint off. Then I will have to strip the chrome and either find someone to spray them w/ alclad or get a batch together for ModelCarChrome... But here it is on a mock up after the chassis swap, and with the wheels/tires. And a brick to help the body sit where it will end up.
  15. I've been wanting to build a few "show rods" lately, and our club here has that as a monthly theme later this year.. and I have 2 of these kits and decided to bust one out. I really liked the styling and design of this car. However what I didnt like, is the fact the front and rear roll pans are clunky looking once installed. So I started by molding them in and getting them cleaned up. Going to end up painting it Tamiya bright orange over white primer to let the orange really pop vs being over a gray primer. But I need to use some gray filler primer first to fill in some gaps and imperfections. I also am filling in the gas door as well after a botched scribe job. I had to use a piece of thin evergreen here to make the pan even on both sides. Otherwise the taillight hole is not symmetrical on both sides. The bricks that came w/ the 50 ford convertible "customizing" series kit are the best things ever!
  16. I've always wanted to build a 68-69 Ranchero kit in scale since the Roadkill episode where they drive to Alaska to go ice lake racing... and fail.. twice. But since nobody makes one I patiently waited to see if someone was going to make a resin unit. So far no luck. But last week I bought a box of parts and junk off a boy in my model car club and among the items was JUST a body of a '65 El Camino. Which is just what I needed. I already had an unassembled but incomplete Torino Cobra kit.. and thought it would be the perfect donor. So in Roadkill fashion, I eyeballed it, and started cutting both bodies to pieces. Results... good! I need to re-contour the quarter panels as they are pretty flat on a Ranchero vs. bulged on a fastback car. I am NOT changing the wheelbase on this thing as hacking up the chassis isn't something I wanted to do. I'm also not going to make the tailgate open only because the chassis is such low detail and the bed isn't that deep to begin with. I'll pretty much have to create the entire back half of the car from scratch.... which I'm not great at, but I want it so I'm going to give it a go. Anyway, enjoy this tidbit, hoping to get further on it this weekend.
  17. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one and may bug you for what paint you end up using as I'd like to recreate the original color scheme too... can't wait to see some paint laid down!
  18. I actually just bought some parts from a kit parter off ebay the other day... and to be honest what I got them for was pretty reasonable. Considering I can't just show up to a swap meet and pick a kit apart and buy just what I need. However yes I have seen some sellers who are sniffing glue I think and they want an arm and a leg for them and I dislike that... but maybe my experience was rare, I got what I needed and cheap.
  19. It almost looks to me that if you painted all the vinyl/leather parts with Tamiya Mica silver followed by Tamiya light blue pearl as just a far away mist coat to give it some blue/pearl effect that might work..
  20. I have this same kit to build but I'm missing the bumperettes for front and rear
  21. I just use newspaper and 3M green automotive tape.. And usually if there are any issues it's my fault for bad masking.
  22. I was googling pictures of it as well, and all the pictures I could find it seemed they just changed the silver/white to red and nothing else just for the sake of ease. So I'd say for sure it's a dark black/charcoal, but as with the rest of this car I'm sure it's got a hint of metalflake in it. I would even maybe look towards a buffing metalizer, and perhaps either leave it unbuffed, or buff it then scuff it with a red 3m scuff pad. Gives it a metal look without the overbearing shine. It would be nice if someone offered the Futura and Lincoln scripts in photoetch... to really add that next level of detail to the body... since it's devoid of pretty much any dash/interior detail, and any script besides the one on the nose.
  23. I see what you're getting at now.... makes my gears turn for the one I still have left to build....
  24. I didn't have any problems with mine assembling it with the interior in first as it shows in the instructions. My only complaint is all the sink holes in the body. Looks to me the interior is a leather/vinyl of similar body color with what looks to be a charcoal or gunmetal opposite color. I guessed when I built mine. But I also built it in it's "movie" configuration. I definitely want to do a stock version like the pic above. Seeing this picture though, lets me know I need to do more bare metal foil on the interior next time lol
