Monogram Ferrari 308 GTB Racer
JTalmage replied to JTalmage's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Thank you. I've actually been trying to collect the entire line of those kits, that would be cool if that did ever happen. -
I'm especially proud of this one. I finished it late last year before I broke my leg. It turned out great. I saw ONE picture of a green '60 on the internet but the color to me, was beautiful so I had to recreate it. But as a hardtop. Paint is automotive basecoat/2k clearcoat. untouched, not buffed or sanded. All out of a rattle can. The color is called "Terre Verde Green". Fun fact, every Ford for 1960 had this color available to it except the truck line. Bumpers are rechromes from Richard DiLabio, and the hood ornament was a repro from Norm Nolder. Tires are AMT parts pack whitewalls. I used the lowered axle holes. It looked a lot better and more realistic than the stock position. Two-toned and flocked the interior, blackwashed the panel gaps and front/rear "grilles", gold pen for the logo in the grille. Bare metal foil laid down before paint on the scripts, sanded back after paint. Bare metal foil adhesive had to be used to get it to stick to anything since basecoat is very "dry" feeling before clear, the foil wouldn't stick like it would to a slick finish. This is probably one of my most favorite models at this point. Excuse my poor photography skills by using my desk as a background in the majority of the pics lol.

Hey there, first "completed" model post in a LONG time from me. Trying to make a point to visit here more often. Anyway, wanted to show you a model I finished last year for those who may not be friends with me on Facebook or in the groups I post in. What we have here is Monogram's 1980 issue of the '76-ish Ferrari 308 GTB Racer. I thought this kit was soo cool, that I had to build it exactly like the box art. I first painted this car and didn't like how the paint turned out. It wasn't quite yellow enough. So I stripped it and just painted the lower half of the car w/ Tamiya paint. Then applied the decals on the bare plastic. I then coated the entire car in Future several times. I think it turned out great for literally only taking me FOUR days working on it only a couple hours a day, and never actually considering it as a "good build" just a "quick build". I used sharpie for the trim in most places, and a gold gel pen for the wheels, and I was a bit sloppy in spots even. But for being a quick build and even such a basic car/kit I won 2nd place in my class last fall in very tough competition at a show in Dayton, OH. Anyway, enjoy!

Hi all, I don't see this posted here yet, and I regret not coming here sooner to post it, but my club's show is on MAY 7th. Theme for this year's show is "Deuces Wild!" (vehicles with a model year ending in a 2, or with a 2 in the name, ex: Mustang II, Chevy II, 32 Ford, Citroen 2CV, '42 Military Jeep, etc.) I created a Facebook event as well, if you're on Facebook and would like to share it: https://fb.me/e/33RE8x2TO Otherwise see the flyer below for details!

Kinda forgot I posted this. Not used to checking the forum. To answer Casey's concerns, I dab-painted the cherry bombs with an old testors paint pen that was less than half-working, and "painted" the other two mufflers with a silver sharpie. Did it just to get pics of them in color. They really do look much better than that. Although towards the end with my old Anycubic Photon I had to essentially wait for a full moon and perform gregorian chanting over a sacrifice to get anything to print right. No 3d printed parts is perfect, they will require cleanup. The back sides of those mufflers would have little pockmarks from the supports anyway. Easily cleaned up and, if one really, really desires, filled and sanded... but, I don't know about you all but I don't plan to look at the floorboard side of mufflers anytime soon on my models. Also, after I posted this I bought a new 3d printer. An Elegoo Saturn S. Which is a 4k resolution printer. I'm working on getting it set up now and test printing.

Howdy folks. Been a long time since I have posted here, ever since I got promoted, work sped up, etc. Things have slowed down again, I never really got out of model building, just buying and collecting more than ever. One thing I realized when I was buying rebuilders is that I always seemed to be missing wheelbacks for old annuals and screw chassis cars, or the tires melted them. So, having owned a 3d printer for over a year as of last August I decided to really dive in. Well, I taught myself how to use Fusion360, which was freaking HARD. Then I taught myself how to use my printer with help from others. I ended up designing wheelbacks for metal axles... and I used the heck out of em on my projects! these shots of the wheelbacks in CAD were my first prototype designs w/o any measurements, just to see if I could do it. Here are some production units in the Slicer program: And here's the finished products! I ended up making several styles in several depths, also some to fit the two types of Johan wheelbacks I had, and even the old 60's AMT ones. Later, after I got bored of wheelbacks, I decided, since I was soo good at CAD (sarcasm) and I only knew how to do basic shapes, I decided to try mufflers. I realized there wasn't much of a selection of aftermarket mufflers out in resin land. So, after getting on the internet and researching measurements, etc. I started drawing things up in Fusion360... and, before I knew it, I had 3 different sets of mufflers created! Flowmasters, Borlas, and Cherry Bomb Glasspacks! What do ya all think? (some of you may have already seen these before on facebook, but this is the first time I've posted them here) I can't wait until I upgrade from my original Anycubic Photon, to something more modern!

Hope you're doing alright Bill. I was saddened by the loss of your great line of products, and was in need of more when I found your website was down. Then when I never got a response to an email I sent, I figured something was up. I'm glad you're ok and I'm really grateful you designed those '60 Ford truck emblems for me so quickly. I know you have a lot on your plate in your personal life right now which is completely understandable. But may I make a suggestion that could possibly help you still get your products out to people without putting in any work printing them? You may consider uploading your files to cults3d website and selling the files. That way they can still be had. I do hope you one day come back to the printing business. Thank you for your awesome stuff. Jesse

What Kits Were Molded in Green?
JTalmage replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting, mine isn't that issue, it's the one with the years going up and down on the side of the front artwork on the box. That's neat though -
I spoke to Ron at NNL Toledo, He's going to open up his website for orders I think he said December... January perhaps. Close it again, then catch up all summer, and do the same thing in fall. He's got a lot of projects in the pipeline, and redoing a lot of masters so he can get some inventory out. I can't wait for that Jeep Wagoneer

They posted on their facebook page that Chris has been being plagued with some ongoing nagging health issues for a while but hoping he can catch up soon. Be patient. Unless something drastic happens you'll get your parts. They're good people.

Anyone seen/heard from him lately? I've been PM'ing him off and on for a couple years now trying to get some of my parts back that I sent him, to no avail. I don't have time anymore to log in here every day so I check back every few months hoping I see a PM from him. Still nothing. Offered to even pay return shipping just to get them. Life tossed me a curveball a few years back and I got promoted to manager at work, and have been busy ever since. Model building time is scarce. I explained this in a PM to Greg at that time, and asked that I get my somewhat rare (and slightly expensive now) Otaki/Arii wheels and tires back. Ghosted me ever since. I don't log on often enough to see him post or even know if he's active anymore. I'm not mad, I just want my stuff back. I'd even buy some of his products if it meant getting my wheels and tires back in the same box. Although if the lack of communication I'm being shown now is an indication of business, I may just not. Hope this is the right place for this. Thanks

BMF, before, or after Gloss?
JTalmage replied to Southern Fried's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I handle my builds, and would take them to many shows. And the older ones I did before clear coat would tend to peel back a little.
